Chapter 3

Autor: Mountain River
I lay on the hospital bed, my body so weak it felt hollowed out.

Dr. Johnson's footsteps echoed around me, yet I heard nothing. It was as if all sound had drained away. It was a silence only a mother who had lost her pup could understand.

That silence was broken by a message. Someone from the pack's internal network sent me a video.

Xavier was laughing confidently at a banquet, his arm wrapped around Lily's waist as he whispered something in her ear. She laughed aloud and leaned into his embrace. The lights reflected on their faces, as if they were the fated pair.

On the day of my discharge, Xavier did not come to pick me up. Not even the lowest-ranking pack member came.

I carried the old cloth bag the hospital gave me and faced the cold wind alone.

At that moment, I truly understood. To them, I was nothing.

I did not want to return to the Alpha's estate. The air there reeked of humiliation.

However, I had no choice. My identification documents, papers, and even my bank cards were still there.

Yet, fate was cruel. In the corridor outside my ward, I saw them again.

Lily smiled freely, her white dress seemingly making her skin glow. Xavier stood beside her with his hand steady on her waist, their posture painfully intimate.

A nurse passing by laughed and teased, "Alpha, your Luna looks radiant today."

I nearly retched.

However, I did not correct her. There was no point. If she wanted that title, she could have it.

I turned to leave but was stopped by a familiar voice.

"Clara? Why are you here? Are you following me?"

The moment he spoke, my feet froze in place, as if bound by invisible chains. I took a deep breath and turned around.

"I'm not following you," I said flatly. "I just got discharged. I didn't know you were here."

He narrowed his eyes, about to say something, but Lily spoke first, gently linking her arm through his.

"Darling, let her come back with us. She donated blood for me. We should at least help her this much."

A cold laugh nearly escaped me.

Xavier reached up and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "You're too kind."

Then he turned to me. "Get in the car."

I did not refuse. I needed an opportunity to retrieve my luggage.

The air in the back seat was eerily quiet, until my eyes were stabbed by a piece of lace lingerie.

It was crumpled and tossed on the seat, stained with a white smudge. It was Lily's.

Lily noticed it too but showed no embarrassment. She turned and smiled at me. "Oh my God, I forgot to clean up. We got a little wild in the back seat last week, didn't we, darling?"

Xavier laughed lazily. "Your moans almost attracted attention from passersby."

They flirted in front of me as if I did not exist. Each word scraped across my flesh like a blade. My nails dug deep into my palms, but I made no sound.

I lowered my head and opened my phone. The screen lit up with an encrypted email.

[Clara, here's your new flight ticket. I hope you can make it this time. It's 9:00 PM tonight.]

I smiled slightly, feeling for the first time a sense of being alive.

I replied: [Thank you. I'm sorry I missed the last flight, but I won't this time.]

Almost immediately, a new message came through. [What happened? Do you need my help?]

My finger hovered over the keyboard. If I told him what I had been through, it would likely spark a war immediately. However, I wanted revenge with my own hands.

[I'll tell you after I leave. Now isn't the right time.]

Xavier suddenly turned and stared at me, as if seeking a sense of presence.

"Clara, what are you looking at? You've been glued to your phone since you got in the car. Who are you chatting with?"

I did not even lift my eyes. "Just checking the weather forecast."

He clearly did not believe me. He reached over and snatched my phone.

The screen's light reflected in his cold eyes.

"What's the password?"

"The day we confirmed we were fated mates." My tone was calm, almost cold, as I told him directly.

His expression darkened. He tried once, then again. On the third attempt, a warning popped up and the screen locked.

Lily leaned over with a light laugh, her voice sickly sweet. "Forget it, Alpha. She doesn't have any friends. What else could she use her phone for besides checking the weather so she doesn't get soaked like a drowned rat?

"Or maybe she's been feeling neglected these past few days and found another werewolf outside. She just doesn't want to tell you."

"Shut up!" Xavier said through gritted teeth.

Xavier's POV:Three days later, I returned to the Eastern Territory. I sat alone in my study for an entire night. The mate bond dissolution scroll from five years ago lay open before me. I picked up the pen, but my wrist trembled so badly I could barely hold it.My wolf was growling, whimpering, protesting within me. It refused to sever this final connection. For five years, I had deluded myself with this unsigned agreement. I told myself she was just angry, that she was still my Luna, that if I could only find her, everything could still be salvaged. However, at the summit, she stood in the light on the platform while I sat below. She held Finnegan's hand. She did not even hate me anymore.I just no longer existed in her life. That was how I knew it all had to end.I picked up the pen and used every ounce of strength to sign my name on that paper. The moment I finished signing, all strength left my body. I slumped back in the chair. The hope that had sustained me for five y

Time slipped by quietly. In the blink of an eye, five years had passed.Five years was enough for an apprentice starting from scratch to grow into an experienced healer. With a determination bordering on vengeance and innate talent, I hungrily absorbed all knowledge.I was no longer a guest in the Western Territory. Through my own abilities, I had become a core member of the healing team.As an important member of the Western Territory delegation, I attended the Healer Summit held in the Central Territory. This was the grandest gathering in the medical field, bringing together Alphas from all powerful packs, important figures, and top healers to share the latest medical achievements and establish future directions for medical cooperation. As a senior healer representing the Western Territory, I walked side by side with Finnegan.I was no longer a Luna who needed to hide behind an Alpha, relying on his radiance for validation. Now, I had my own light. At the summit, I saw many

Clara's POV:On the way back to the council hall, Finnegan and I walked in silence. I did not stop until I was certain Xavier's presence had completely vanished from the territory's border. The tension that had gripped me finally released.I turned to face Finnegan. "Finnegan, thank you."He simply looked at me gently, waiting for me to continue."And I'm sorry." My gaze fell on the repaired brooch pinned to his chest."Just now, giving you the brooch, I only wanted to make him give up completely. There was no other meaning behind it."I hope you don't mind."Finnegan lowered his head, removed the brooch, and handed it back to me. "If this helps you sever the past completely, then I'm willing."He raised his eyes, his gaze clear and resolute. "Clara, you don't need to apologize. You were only protecting yourself."A wave of warmth melted my frozen heart. This was a tenderness I had never felt from Xavier....Three months in the Western Territory were enough to shed my past

Three months passed in hopeless searching.I had used every resource available, practically combing through the entire continent, yet there was still no trace of Clara. She had vanished like a stone dropped into the ocean, without a single ripple. Her old phone number was no longer in use. I grew increasingly silent and increasingly volatile. The pack elders urged me more than once that for the sake of the pack's stability, I should establish a new Luna as soon as possible, even if only temporarily.Lily's belly grew larger by the day. The pup she carried became the only hope in many werewolves's eyes. However, I refused. I only had one Luna, and that was Clara.I threw myself into work, trying to numb myself. I became colder and more ruthless than before. Only when I returned to that empty bedroom late at night would endless regret and longing swallow me whole.I looked at the things Clara left behind again and again. Her clothes, the books she read, even the cups she used.I

Those two documents were a mate bond dissolution spell scroll and Clara's medical records. Every word on the medical records burned like a red-hot branding iron, searing my eyes until I could barely look at them a second longer.[Due to excessive blood draw, the patient went into shock and miscarried a seven-week-old pup.]I could hardly believe my own eyes.Pup... Miscarried...Clara had been carrying my pup too?A pup that had been quietly growing without my knowledge, only to be killed by my own hand."What is this?" Father's voice exploded like thunder. He snatched the documents from my hands, his weathered face filled with fury and disbelief. His withered fingers trembled with force, nearly crushing those thin sheets of paper."Xavier! Explain this to me right now! What does this mean? Clara was carrying my grandpup? How could there be a miscarriage?"The entire hall fell deathly silent.Every guest's gaze focused on me like a spotlight. The surrounding silence was suffo

Xavier's POV:"Lily has a prenatal checkup at 9:00 AM tomorrow. You'll accompany her. Also, get yourself examined."The message was sent a long time ago but remained unread. I was not at all surprised she did not want to see my messages. However, what I had not expected was for Clara to block me.She vanished just like that, decisively and resolutely, like a lock that would never open for me again. The next morning, the healer's room was filled with the scent of herbs. Lily clutched my arm tightly, her voice trembling."Xavier, is our pup okay?"I nodded, trying to keep my tone calm. "The healer says the pup is strong. Looks like he's eager to be born."Lily exhaled in relief. "Thank the Moon Goddess. You've looked terrible since last night. I thought something had happened."Something had happened.I could not forget Clara's expression. She lay on the floor, struggling to breathe, yet she did not cry out, did not show disappointment, and did not even call for my help.It w
