Chapter 2

Author: Noorie
“He is cursed with Entropy,” Kael murmured, his breath smelling of the deep, restless ocean as his grip tightened on my wrist. “Every living thing he touches with his bare hands rots to dust. Plants wither, stone crumbles, and flesh bleeds out. Do you really think he will embrace you, little priestess? He will destroy you before you even make it to his bed—if he even looks at you.”

I pulled my arm out of his grasp with cold precision, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me flinch. "Then I shall rot happily in the dark, Lord Kael."

Before he could unleash the storm brewing in his eyes, Mercury stepped between us, his winged sandals humming with golden light. With a flick of his wrist, the marble hall of Mount Olympus dissolved into a swirling vortex of wind, and the glaring, arrogant faces of the gods vanished into nothingness.

When the wind settled, the air was no longer sweet with ambrosia and burning incense. It was thick, heavy, and freezing—smelling of damp earth, ancient iron, and the sharp bite of winter frost.

As I pushed the heavy doors open, the grand foyer opened before me. Unlike the blazing gold of Olympus, Malar’s realm was built from shadowed stone, lined with velvet banners of crimson and iron. The air was deathly quiet—save for the slow, heavy echo of footsteps coming down the central staircase.

My heart hammered against my ribs as he emerged from the gloom.

Malar.

He wore high-collared armor of dark leather and iron, his pale skin stark against the shadows. Thick leather gauntlets covered his hands up to his forearms—a constant barrier to keep his lethal curse from touching the world around him.

His jaw was sharp, his dark hair falling in messy strands over a forehead marked by quiet pain. But it was his eyes that caught me—striking, glowing crimson, filled with a mixture of deep exhaustion, suspicion, and a dangerous, simmering power.

It was the same pair of eyes that had scared away the underworld beasts and saved me in my previous life. The pair of eyes I could never forget.

He stopped a few paces away from me, his presence radiating a cold, crushing aura that made the very air tremble.

"You," Malar said, his voice low, deep, and velvet-rough, vibrating in the center of my chest. "The mortal who dared speak my name in the divine court."

I took a deliberate step forward, refusing to back down, even as the temperature around us plummeted. "I am Laena, Lord Malar. I am your wife by Zeus’s decree."

Malar let out a dark, cynical laugh, taking a step toward me until he towered over my smaller frame. He tilted his head, his crimson eyes locking onto mine with lethal intensity.

"Wife?" He sneered, raising one heavily gloved hand and stopping it merely an inch from my throat. I could feel the unnatural, frigid drain of his curse emanating through the thick leather.

"Did Zeus not warn you? Did my father’s realm not terrify you? One tear in this glove, priestess, one touch of my bare skin, and your blood will freeze, your organs will rot, and your soul will be torn to shreds."

He leaned in closer, his dark shadow completely enveloping me.

"Tell me the truth, Laena. What game are you playing? Who sent you here to mock me?"

I looked directly into those terrifying crimson eyes—the same eyes that had shielded my dying soul in another timeline—and smiled softly.

Without a single drop of fear, I reached out and rested my palm flat against the cold iron plate covering his chest, right over his beating heart.

"No one sent me, My Prince," I whispered, my voice echoing clearly through the silent hall. "I came here because I need a weapon to destroy the Sun, and I know the God of Death is the only one strong enough to hold the blade."

Malar’s breath hitched. His eyes widened slightly as he stared down at my hand on his chest, completely stunned by my lack of terror.

For the first time in centuries, the cursed prince of the Underworld was speechless.

  • I Left the Sea God To Rule the Underworld   Chapter 9

Without the tether of my devotion to feed his divine light, Kael’s power curdled. The ocean, once his obedient plaything, turned feral. Violent tsunamis tore through his coastal cities, sinking his own golden ships while his grandest altars crumbled into brine and moss. Mortals ceased their chants to the ocean, directing their prayers instead to the darkness below, where a sovereign queen sat beside her shadow king. Aphrodite abandoned Kael before the salt had even dried on his ruined armor, disgusted by a god who had allowed himself to be starved of his own divinity. The last report from the upper world spoke of a broken creature who haunted the jagged shorelines, his hands raw from clawing at empty sand, whispering a name the wind refused to carry back. He had become smaller than dust—a forgotten specter of the sea, drowning in the silence of his own creation. My revenge was complete. Not through bloodshed, but through absolute erasure. In the inner sanctum of the Obsidian Citadel,

  • I Left the Sea God To Rule the Underworld   Chapter 8

Laena’s POVThe grand courtyard of Mount Olympus was bathed in a cold, suffocating light. Surrounding the blinding white marble altar stood the High Pantheon, their divine gazes heavy with judgment. At the center of the dais stood Hera, her posture rigid, her jeweled crown gleaming like a threat. beside her sat Moiras, the arbiter of fate, watching the proceedings with a smug, knowing gleam in his eyes. And at the base of the altar steps waited Kael.He was restored in his shimmering, golden armor, but the phantom madness still burned behind his eyes. As I walked into the courtyard, flanked by shadow guards, Kael stepped directly into my path, forcing the procession to a halt."Laena," Kael breathed, his voice a tight, frantic whisper meant for my ears alone. "Stop this foolishness. I know the truth. I read the ancient pacts in the Abyssal archives. The Blood Moon is over. If he touches you today to perform the Rite of Binding Blood, his deathly essence will shatter your mortal frame

Laena’s POVThe next day Kael left, I was sitting on the edge of the grand velvet hearth, staring into the flickering violet flames. Malar stood near the arched window, his broad silhouette framed by the endless gloom of the Underworld."The alignment ended at dawn," I murmured,"Kael was blinded by his own humiliation yesterday, but he is no fool. He will look for answers. It is only a matter of time before he realizes the Blood Moon was a singular reprieve."Malar turned slowly, his dark eyes burning with a mixture of suppressed hunger and bleak reality. "He was meant to be broken by the display, driven so far into despair that he would never dare look toward the Styx again. But illusion is a fragile shield, my sweet queen."He took a single step toward me, but stopped dead as the air between us hissed. The moment the primordial shadow in his blood felt his intention to bridge the distance, dark, crackling wisps of frost and embers flared along his skin. Even a lingering touch today w

The marble halls of the Abyssal Citadel had grown quiet. Kael sat upon his throne of polished coral, his unblinking eyes staring at nothing. Days—or perhaps weeks—had bled together into a blur of grey misery. Every time he closed his eyes, he didn't see the sparkling waters of his domain or the delicate beauty of Aphrodite. He saw the cold, mocking curve of Laena’s lips on the basalt balcony. He heard the heavy, possessive murmur of Malar, and felt the phantom agony of her words tearing through his pride.‘Satisfies me in ways you could only dream of.’The words burned like dry salt in a fresh wound.Below his floating citadel, the mortal world withered. His altars, once heaped high with slaughtered bulls and burning incense, lay abandoned. Sailors set launch without praying to the tide, for their prayers went unanswered; fishermen cursed the barren seas as nets came up empty. Without Kael's focus to hold the currents, his grand temples along the coastal cliffs cracked under the relent

The obsidian corridors of the Underworld felt impossibly warm with Malar’s hand resting heavily at the small of my back. We walked in a slow, comfortable silence, the lingering heat of his punishing, breathless kiss in the library still thrumming beneath my skin. The shadow guards bowed low as we approached the grand basalt balcony overlooking the River Styx, acknowledging not just their cursed lord, but the queen who had survived his devastating touch. But the usual desolate, haunting beauty of the riverbank was entirely gone.Instead, the dark, jagged shores were blindingly bright. Millions of bioluminescent pearls, chests overflowing with sunken gold, towering branches of crimson sea-coral, and shimmering silks woven from ocean foam blanketed the obsidian rocks. But, what outshine them all were thousands of portraits. Those were my paintings. Each one painted by the Sea Lord in just one night. I recognised them with just one glance. "It seems the lesser god has lost his mind entir

“How? You loved me! How could you let that monster—"CLANG.The heavy mahogany table between us split straight down the middle, crashing into two pulverized halves. The temperature in the library plunged below freezing. Shadows crawled up the stone walls like living veins, swallowing the sunlight streaming through the windows until the room was drenched in absolute darkness. From the shadows behind my chair, a towering figure materialized.Malar stood there, clad in obsidian robes that seemed to absorb the light itself. His gaze fell onto Kael’s hand—the one that had just gripped my chin."You speak of my curse as if it is a weakness, cousin." Malar’s voice resonated through the stone, vibrating in the marrow of our bones. He stepped forward, putting a pale, unblemished hand gently over mine. Where his skin met mine, there was no decay—only a dark, suffocating surge of primordial power that made the air itself thrum.Kael staggered back, his breath hitching as he stared at our joined h
