Chapter 3

Author: Egg & Sprouts
Sienna sped the whole distance recklessly. She blew through red lights left and right, covering a

two-hour drive in 30 minutes.

I felt somewhat dizzy, the aftereffects of the memory-erasing capsule giving me heart palpitations. I instinctively grabbed her sleeve and said, "P-Please don't abandon me here…"

Sienna frowned with a trace of impatience. "You've been to the fight club with me countless times. You're not a little kid anymore. Do you still need someone to guide you?"

She walked so fast that she disappeared after turning a few corners.

I stood there in a daze. I'd forgotten the layout of the fight club as my memories faded. I stumbled around asking people for directions until I was accidentally pushed into a room.

I was just about to apologize when I locked eyes with Jonathan, who was receiving medical care. He was soaked in blood and collapsed in the chair, his wounds a gruesome sight. He grew agitated when he caught sight of me. "I didn't mean to… I'll give Sienna back to you, William!"

He grabbed my hand and closed it around a dagger. Before I could react, he drove the blade into his own chest, keeping my hand wrapped around the hilt.

Blood splashed across my face. I turned and saw Sienna's face twisted with anger. "Haven't you done enough? Please just leave Jonathan and me alone, William!"

Sienna violently pushed me to the ground, pulling Jonathan behind her for protection.

Jonathan was soaked in blood as he poured his heart out in her arms. "William didn't mean to… Please don't blame him… It's all my fault, Sienna…"

Sienna looked like a lone wolf standing up for her husband, her eyes turning red with rage. "Can you stop being so unreasonable, William?"

She lashed out at me in a fit of anger. "Didn't I tell you to forget everything? Why did you keep waiting for me? Why did my father have to choose you out of all those people? If you hadn't been involved, my father wouldn't have died!"

It was then that a loud crash echoed in my mind, and everything went blank. I hit the back of my head against the ground and began to shake uncontrollably. I remembered everything. It was then that the vague memories I'd once had now came into focus, each one filled with cruelty and bloodshed.

I broke into sobs as tears streamed down my cheeks. "It wasn't me… Please don't come near me… Stay away from me…"

It seemed like my memories were hazy and fragmented. I had turned deathly pale.

Just as soon as the words were out of her mouth, Sienna's eyes showed a brief flash of regret. She looked from me to the blood-soaked Jonathan and back again. She picked Jonathan up after a second's hesitation and sprinted out the door. "Call a doctor! Get all the doctors here immediately!"

She left again.

I curled up in the corner and waited in the freezing room all night long.

It was not until the first light of dawn that Sienna finally found me, suffering from frostbite. She fell silent for a long time as a surge of emotions crossed her eyes. "I'll take you to see the seaside, William."

I shifted my sore eyes and looked up in a daze.

"Didn't you say before that you wanted to go to the seaside for our honeymoon?" Sienna tried to stroke my cheek, but I turned my head away to avoid her touch.

In fact, I couldn't recall any of it anymore. Memories of the seaside and our honeymoon plans were fading, leaving only my tears to remind me how much they had once meant to me.

While Sienna was busy packing, I checked the number in my notes and dialed it. "Would there be any chance I could join your rural teaching program?"

Upon receiving a positive reply from the other end, I finally smiled for the first time in days.

It was windy out at sea on the day we arrived at the beach. I had only bent down to gather a few seashells when I looked up and spotted Jonathan in a life jacket. I could no longer clearly remember who he was, but a sharp ache kept pulsing through my chest.

I was about to turn around when someone grabbed my hand, and we fell into the sea together.

"Help, Sienna! William jumped into the sea!"

I could still feel the salty seawater rushing into my mouth as my head began to buzz. I struggled desperately to reach the surface, but someone held me tightly and kept forcing me back underwater.

Just as I was sinking into the depths, water splashed violently right beside me.

Sienna pulled Jonathan out of the water first, then dragged me out when I was on the verge of drowning.

Jonathan spoke as soon as they hit the shore, his face deathly pale. "I don't know why he pushed me in… I had no money once you let me go and had Travis to raise, so I had to take a job as a lifeguard… I'm begging you, Sienna. Please don't let them fire me..."

Sienna rubbed his back, her face full of concern, as he sobbed until he could barely catch his breath. Meanwhile, a sharp pain in my stomach left me unable to speak.

Sienna was convinced I was guilty, her face turning absolutely livid. "How much longer are you going to act out? What more do you want since I came to the beach with you? Jonathan doesn't have a safety net like you do. He worked so hard to make it this far! Why must you try to destroy him?"

She grabbed my wrist with a hard grip and lifted her hand high, ready to slap me.

I turned pale, overwhelmed by a wave of sadness.

Just as I closed my eyes to take the blow, someone nearby yelled, "Oh my God! He's bleeding! Hurry and save him!"

A sudden scream from a bystander pierced the air.

I stared dumbfounded at the blood pooling underneath me, my mind going completely blank.

Lara and I returned to the city after the floods subsided.I still couldn't remember anything from my past. I couldn't recall my past with Sienna, nor did I have a clue how I'd first met Lara.Lara always told me it didn't matter. "William, I'm happy as long as you're safe and sound. You just need to know that the both of us love you very much."Her eyes sparkled when she said that. She looked beautiful.I couldn't help feeling that I'd once searched for that same sparkle in someone else's eyes.Alas, I'd forgotten all about it.Still, there were some things that I would never forget.I would remember the roiling golden wheat fields in that rural village, the brilliant blue skies overhead, the crystal-clear emerald waters, and the rosy cheeks of the innocent children I'd taught.I captured those sights in my paintings.I also drew the woman who'd disappeared beneath the raging waters, her hands outstretched as she lifted me to safety.I held a solo art exhibition and donated

  • I Loved the Woman Who Ruined Me   Chapter 9

William's POVThe towering waves instantly swallowed the tiny village whole. The flash flood submerged the wooden cabins, surging through the area as torrential rain fell around us in sheets. The lattice windows groaned and creaked as the water smashed against them. The furniture was submerged in floodwater. The water had risen so quickly and so high that boats could easily navigate the streets.I grabbed Lara by her collar, my heart pounding with fear and panic. "Lara, what about the schoolchildren?"Lara tied our belongings to a tiny wooden raft as she reassured me, saying, "It's still early. The kids haven't left for school just yet. Besides, they deal with situations like these every year. They're far more experienced at handling them than we are!"The howling wind and pounding rain were so loud that we had to yell at the top of our lungs just to hear each other. My anxiety lessened at that, but I couldn't stop myself from shivering. She tied us together so we wouldn't be

The woman was clearly still very young, but she sported a head of white hair as her eyes were dim with exhaustion. She grew agitated upon seeing me, causing the expensive camera in her hand to fall to the ground and shatter into pieces.I also saw something else. The little finger on her right hand was damaged, just like mine.A dull ache inexplicably tugged at my heartstrings."Sir, do you know someone named Sienna Quinton?" she asked tremulously, studying my expression carefully. She looked as though her world would crumble if I told her that I didn't.I hesitated for a moment before answering firmly, "No, I don't."Then, I added, "Perhaps you've mistaken me for someone else? Why don't I ask Lara for you?"Her face turned stark white at that. She looked like a rather strong-willed woman, all things considered. Yet, she now looked as though she'd been abandoned by someone dear.Lara, who had been standing by the sidelines, stepped in front of me. Her face was icy as she spok

It read, "Trust Lara. Focus on your volunteer work and don't try to remember the people from your past."My memories might be unreliable, but that was definitely my handwriting. The words looked as though they'd been carved instead of written, so I could imagine just how much I meant them. The rural village was incredibly remote. On my first day as a volunteer, I quickly discovered that I couldn't stand the taste of the water there. It certainly didn't help that the villagers had to haul their own water from the foot of the mountain, which was several miles aw

One could even say she looked like a flower that was withering after losing its sun.She had always assumed that William was the one who couldn't live without her. Third-Person POVThe person on the screen was crystal clear. It was a deathly pale William, who was dressed in a hospital gown.He slowly trudged out of the hospital ward. Then, he crouched outside the ward where Sienna and Jonathan had been arguing for a long, long time. Suddenly, it seemed as though something pushed him over the edge as he firmly decided to get himself discharged.People streamed past him in both directions. Regardless, not a single one of them noticed the hollow look in his eyes.Sienna balled her hands into fists as a vague sense of unease rose within her. However, she forced herself to push those feelings aside and continued watching the footage. She saw William walking past the rushing traffic, brushing shoulders with the crowd as he did so.Then, he trudged into a dead-end alley. Her heart clenched at the sight. That was because when tragedy struck them ten years ago, it also happened in an alleyway.Back then, she had often walked William to and fr
