Chapter 2 Emergencies

作者: Noah Vale
Moreover, the fact that he chose Sophia of all people was beyond me.

Sophia was the daughter of a housemaid at Clark Residence. Sophia had once tried to seduce William when he returned to Clark Residence. He immediately flew into a rage and kicked her out.

Later, William brought her back to be his secretary and explained, "Sophia's mother has been working at Clark Residence for years. She even came to my mother for help, so I had no choice."

I expressed my understanding at that time, but I never imagined that they had been married for seven years and had a six-year-old son.

The sound of water in the bathroom gradually stopped.

I quickly wiped away my tears, exited the chat, marked the message as unread, re-enabled the Read Receipts option in the settings, and put the phone back on the table.

When William saw me still sitting in the living room after coming out of the bathroom, he was a little surprised. "Honey, are you tired? You seem a bit down."

Although I was disgusted with him calling me so intimately, I couldn't expose everything yet. Thus, I replied, "I'm fine. Just feeling a little tired."

When he didn't notice anything unusual about me, he picked up his phone to check. After he read the text, he smiled and said, "Get some rest then. Something came up at work again, so I'll have to go."

Then, he went out and didn't come home all night.

Since the marriage certificate I had with William was fake, I didn't even have the right to sue Sophia for the return of our marital property.

Even so, I would still fight to reclaim every single thing that belonged to me. I carefully counted my shares again and contacted other shareholders to sell them at a low price.

The next morning, I went to the company to check the records of the rehabilitation device project after the secretary told me William wasn't in the office. I kept the evidence of Sophia switching to a cheaper supplier and pocketing the price difference on my phone.

'This was the smart rehabilitation device development project that my father valued most before he passed away. That was why I pushed through and kept myself updated with its progress for several months even when I was pregnant.

'Yet, I never imagined that William would immediately hand over the project to Sophia after it gradually got on track,' I thought, my hand trembling as I held the phone.

They had ruined the project my father cherished like his own life. To make matters worse, I felt powerless to even protect it.

After I got home, William sent me a message saying he had to go on a business trip for a few days. I couldn't care less and immediately booked a flight to Stomvale for three days later.

Just as I put down my phone, a heartbreaking cry suddenly came from the nursery.

I turned around, rushed into the nursery, and saw that Emmy was covered in a widespread rash. She was breathing rapidly, and her face was turning bluish-purple.

I was so overwhelmed with fear that I trembled as I rushed her to the hospital. By the time we arrived, I felt like I had been through hell and back.

After a series of examinations, the doctor came out with the report, his expression grave. "Your daughter has an acute severe allergic reaction, which has caused laryngeal edema. Her life could be in danger if she doesn't receive treatment."

My lips trembled as I cried, "Doctor, give her the best treatment there is! I don't care what you must do, but you must save her!"

"Emergency treatment for allergies requires specific allergy relief medications and expert consultation. Our pharmacy doesn't have much stock of these special medications," the doctor explained solemnly.

I completely broke down in tears and begged the doctor again and again to find a solution.

A moment later, a nurse rushed over.

Her face was filled with apparent sympathy as she spoke, "I'm sorry, Ms. Johnson. Mr. Clark's son's pet dog wouldn't eat, so he had all the hospital's specialists and emergency medications transferred to the VIP ward."

Her words came as a blow, shattering my last shred of reason. After I handed Emmy to the nurse, I rushed to the VIP ward on the top floor.

I kicked open the ward door and saw that the dog didn't look sick at all. In fact, the Golden Retriever was lying on the carpet, full of energy, and gnawing on a bone. Meanwhile, Ethan Clark, the son William had with Sophia, teased it with a treat.

My heart ached terribly, and I couldn't help but roar, "Give my daughter the medicine!"

From this day forward, William and I were nothing to each other.I initially assumed that William wouldn't bother me after our exchange on my wedding day.Alas, I had severely underestimated his persistence. He would message me without fail or send me a gift every single day. The end result for all those gifts was the same because Gideon would throw them all into the trash with a scowl on his face.William stood at my doorstep under the heavy rain once. He shouted as he turned into a drowned rat, "Heather, please just meet me one last time., I'll just keep waiting here if you don't come out!"I was working in my study when the staff informed me about this for the third time."Mrs. Smith, that man is still here. He insists on seeing you. We can't get rid of him. Would you like to see him?"I remained silent for a moment. Eventually, I refused. Since he enjoyed standing outside so much, I don't see why I should stop him.Just then, Gideon knocked on the door and came in. He was

Heather, come back to me, okay? Aren't we husband and wife?" he said. "I love you. You've always been the one I've loved!"I could barely stop myself from rolling my eyes. Nevertheless, I simply stared at William coldly, my gaze calm.It had only been half a month since I last saw him, yet he seemed to have lost all his spirits. His face was as white as a sheet, and there were dark circles under his eyes. Even his once neatly combed hair was a complete mess."Love me? William, do you even hear yourself?" I said. "You claim to love me, but you married another woman and had a child with her. You say you love me, but you allowed Sophia to ruin the projects that my father cherished so dearly."You tell me you love me, but not only did you condone her stealing Emmy's medicine, but you also chose your illegitimate son over Emmy! At the end of the day, you just want to have it all. You've never once loved anyone but yourself!"I didn't bother pulling my punches."Mr. Clark, Gideon and I

All of Sophia's assets were frozen. William contacted the vital records office and had Ethan's birth certificate information amended. As a result, Ethan was no longer associated with the Clark family.William even recovered all the money she secretly transferred and then charged her with "embezzling the company's funds," leaving her with massive debt on her shoulders. However, he became increasingly uneasy even after he was done dealing with Sophia. So, he drove to the local Social Security Administration office and rushed to the reception counter."I'm looking for a woman! Heather Johnson! Has she recently applied for her child's Social Security number? The child's last name is Clark.""What's the child's full name?"William froze at the staff's question."Uh… Well… All I know is that we call her Emmy," he answered, stammering all the way. After the staff searched through the database, they looked at him, and said with uncertainty, "There was indeed a woman named Heather Joh

Heather was usually rather docile and was never one to throw tantrums. That was why William believed she was truly angry after seeing her packing her things and running away with Emmy. The thought of her with tears in her eyes and sulking at him stirred a hint of joy within him.'Isn't it precisely because she loves me that she cares?' he thought.William smirked, deciding to swallow his pride and give Heather a way out.…The next morning, he took the initiative to text Sophia. 'Bring your ID card and the marriage certificate. I'll meet you at the courthouse in half an hour.'He figured he should first break things off with Sophia cleanly and then help Emmy apply for her birth certificate and Social Security number as soon as possible. That way, Heather would eventually calm down. However, he received no reply from Sophia for quite a while. Thus, he called her, only to be greeted by a calm, robotic prompt, stating, "The number you have dialed is currently unavailable."William

  • I Married His Enemy Instead   Chapter 6 Divorcing Sophia

William had spent three whole days at the amusement park with Sophia and Ethan. The entire ordeal had given him nothing but a migraine. He believed Sophia when she told him that Ethan would definitely be traumatized after having just been kidnapped. That was why he had specifically turned down all work to play with him. Yet, Ethan was now as energetic as a puppy. In fact, he showed no signs of being frightened at all."Ethan, we've been hanging out for three days now. It's time to go home," said William. When he returned home, he knew he had one very important thing to do, which was to divorce Sophia.Whenever he closed his eyes these past two days, he would remember the heartbroken look in Heather's eyes the day he left the ward and feel a sudden sharp pain in his chest. He indeed struggled with the decision for a while when Sophia got pregnant."Mr. Clark, the doctor said I'll never be able to give birth again if I lose this baby!" Sophia sobbed uncontrollably as she clutched

When his gaze settled on Sophia's cage, Emmy suddenly stopped crying in my arms and just stared at him wide-eyed like an abandoned kitten."I choose…" he spoke, his voice extremely hoarse. "I choose Sophia and Ethan."The moment the kidnapper removed the dagger, I heard the sound of my heart shattering.Emmy's lips twitched, and she burst into a heart-wrenching wail."Deal," the kidnapper opened the cage on Sophia's side. Just as he and his group were about to take Emmy and me away, William suddenly broke free of the restraints like a madman, rushed over, and hugged the iron cage. "Wait! I choose them! I choose Heather and Emmy!""Too late," the kidnapper sneered and walked to the corner with the cage.As we passed by William, I clearly saw the crimson rage in his eyes and the fleeting smugness on Sophia's lips. After some time, police sirens suddenly sounded from outside the warehouse.I held Emmy and curled up in a corner, trying to shield her from the chaos. As soon as my ne
