Chapter 2

Author: Sundream
"I mean it," I added. "Next week."

My words fell into dead silence.

Corleone stopped mid-step and slowly turned around.

He pressed his fingers hard against the bridge of his nose, his tone clipped with impatience.

"Tella, stop this."

His gaze settled heavily on me, his voice carrying an authority that left no room for argument.

"I remember our ten-year promise. But the overseas partnerships have piled up. I can't be in two places at once."

"Besides, what we have was never held together by ceremonies. If it really matters to you, I'll make it happen once things calm down."

I lowered my eyes, my fingers tightening.

This ceremony was a promise he had made to me himself ten years ago.

Ten years ago, when I was eighteen, I had just helped him take the seat of Don.

His foundation was still shaky then. Rival factions were circling, the entire organization was on the brink, and we had agreed to postpone the wedding.

On the night of his coronation, the lights caught his face, still young but full of certainty.

"I owe you, Tella. In ten years, once I've secured my position as Don and cleared every obstacle, I'll give you the grandest wedding in all of Europe. One no one can match."

"I'll make sure everyone knows you are Corleone's only wife. My only Donna."

I believed him. I waited ten full years.

Next week was the exact date we had set to honor that promise.

I had kept it in my heart all along. But today, the promise I had dreamed of for countless nights had become, in his words, a superficial ceremony that could be pushed back whenever it suited him.

I met his gaze, my eyes perfectly calm.

"My wedding isn't with you."

That did it. Whatever patience Corleone had left shattered.

His brows drew together tight, and the air around him turned ice cold.

"How long are you going to keep this up?"

"If not me, then who?"

"Over something this petty, you'd stoop to lies like this? Donatella, you've gone too far."

He stared at me, his chest rising and falling, visibly furious.

But after only seconds of our standoff, he looked at my calm expression and forced his anger down.

After a long exhale, the tension in his jaw released.

He leaned forward slightly, resting one elbow on the edge of the desk, his imposing presence pulling back just a fraction.

"I lost my temper. I shouldn't have gotten angry with you."

"Every faction has been pulling me in different directions. The pressure's been too much. Cut me some slack, and stop fighting with me. I'll do my best to keep our ten-year promise."

I knew this was the most Corleone would ever concede.

I stared at his face, inches from mine, and ten years of storms flashed before my eyes.

My throat tightened. The refusal on the tip of my tongue never made it past my lips.

After a long silence, I let out a single word.

"Fine."

The relief that washed over him was almost visible.

He straightened up and smoothed his wrinkled collar.

"I still have some business tonight. I won't disturb your rest."

"I'll sleep in the guest room."

He turned toward the door. Just as his hand closed on the handle, he paused as if remembering something, and looked back.

"There's a gala tomorrow night. You're coming with me. I'll have the staff send up a gown later."

Without waiting for my answer, he walked out.

Silence settled over the room again. I sat alone in the empty study, staring at those gift-with-purchase earrings on the desk for a long time.

The next evening, the staff delivered a couture gown right on time.

I dressed and accompanied Corleone to the gala.

The grand ballroom blazed with light, crystal chandeliers casting brilliant reflections everywhere.

Every power broker and elite figure in the city was there. The air hummed with polite chatter and the clink of wine glasses.

As the Donna, I moved through the crowd with practiced ease, making small talk with several prominent wives in a quiet corner.

While fielding their flattery, I let my gaze sweep idly across the hall.

My eyes landed on something, and I went still.

I didn't expect Bianca to be there too.

She sat openly at Corleone's side, chatting comfortably with several overseas executives as if she were the lady of the house.

But what hit me hardest was the piece shining at her throat.

The one-of-a-kind emerald necklace, the one no amount of money could buy, sat perfectly against her skin.

  • I Married His Rival, and the Mafia Don Lost His Mind   Chapter 9

After marrying Alessandro, I quickly settled into my new role.Ten years as Corleone's Donna had trained me in managing Mafia operations and navigating between rival factions. I was used to the complexity.Corleone's operations had been top-tier, and I had handled them with ease, never once feeling overwhelmed. But stepping into Alessandro's world showed me what a real empire looked like.He controlled the entire Naples Mafia. His territory, his reach, his underground enterprises were easily ten times the scale of Corleone's.The business was impossibly intricate, spanning dozens of sectors across international markets, each one deeply interconnected. On top of that, Alessandro had handled the transfer of all the underground assets allocated to me in the divorce agreement with Corleone right at the start of our marriage.Old holdings and new ones piled together, stretching me thin. For the first month of our marriage, I spent nearly every night in the study, buried in stacks of documen

Under a heavy night sky, Corleone dragged himself back to the silent, empty estate, every step agony on his shattered leg.The moment he reached the front steps, a slender figure rushed to meet him. Bianca, who had been waiting. She took one look at the state of him and panicked."Your leg! What happened? Who did this to you?"Corleone kept moving, his expression glacial."It doesn't matter."Bianca took his arm carefully, her voice gentle."She still won't come back? It's okay. I won't leave you."Before she could put on more of an act, Corleone pulled his arm free. His throat was raw, his voice shattered."She's not coming back."Bianca's eyes went wide."What?""Donatella isn't coming back." Corleone repeated it. "She married Alessandro. I pushed her away myself."That single sentence sent barely concealed joy flooding through Bianca's eyes. She swallowed her elation and put on a face of sympathy."I see... Well, since she belongs to someone else now, let me take her place and take

Corleone stood perfectly still, the thin sheet of paper pinched between his fingers. The yellowed paper, marked by time, dragged his thoughts back ten years.Back then he had nothing. Ambitious but without a foundation, his proposal had been met with fierce opposition from my entire family. My father, Giovanni Valenti, was a shrewd judge of character. He had seen through Corleone: too much ambition, no capacity for lasting devotion. In the end, he would betray me.To silence every objection and to give me absolute security, the young Corleone had written this divorce agreement himself. If he ever did anything to wrong me, the marriage would be void on the spot. I could walk away at any time, free and clear. He would leave with nothing. Every share, every asset under his name would transfer to me automatically. No one could contest it.He had invited my father and several neutral, highly respected Elders to witness and endorse it, completing the formal notarization. It was this solemn,

Dong. Dong. Dong. Each strike seemed to land directly on his nerves. Most of the alcohol haze lifted at once. He stood frozen, staring at the empty room, chest tight as if a fist had closed around his heart. He stumbled around and grabbed a servant in the hallway."Where is the Donna? Where is Donatella?!"The servant shook with terror, too frightened to look up."Sir, ever since you ordered the Donna confined to the attic, none of us dared go near her. We never saw her come downstairs, and we never saw her leave."Corleone's mind buzzed. In his panic, he forced himself to think. He remembered clearly that Donatella had cut ties with her family ten years ago. She had nowhere to go.Full-blown panic set in. He fumbled for his phone, fingers trembling, and dialed my number. The call rang until it went to voicemail. He called again and again, but I never picked up.Just when his composure had completely shattered, light footsteps sounded behind him.A pair of slender hands reached from be

That day, Alessandro Moretti, the supreme leader of the Naples Mafia, suddenly announced a grand wedding. After the gala that night, Corleone didn't come home.I sat by the bedroom window, listening to the servants' hushed gossip outside the door. They whispered that Corleone had booked the entire riverside promenade and thrown Bianca a lavish birthday celebration. He had mobilized every available hand to fill the venue overnight with Bianca's favorite white roses.Fireworks had lit up the sky for a full thirty minutes, the spectacle sending ripples through the entire upper echelon.More absurdly, he had canceled the monthly Mafia council meeting for her birthday party.Several faction leaders came knocking in outrage, and I had to step in to calm them down.Corleone had always been disciplined and held himself to the highest standards.Even I never dared to interfere with his work schedule. But now, he was openly flaunting his favoritism toward Bianca for all the world to see.The next afternoon, as dusk approached, Corleone finally came back.I was already waiting for him in the estate's
