Chapter 2

Author: Sweet Beet
Before I could finish my words, William leaned down and grabbed the shattered tea cup and shoved it into my mouth.

“Denise and I have been wandering like exiles for the past three years, while you’re living your best life here in my home!

“I’m going to teach you a lesson today!”

I choked and could not speak. The sharp ceramic cut my mouth, and blood filled my mouth.

I lifted an arm to shield myself, but Denise stepped on the back of my hand.

I shuddered from the pain, but I could not scream.

After William stuffed the broken shards into my mouth, he spat at me before he clapped his hands and stood up.

Denise shifted her foot from my hand to my tummy.

I was terrified. I held her ankle with both hands to stop her from stepping down.

Gideon was practically infertile. We had gone to many famous doctors over the past three years before we managed to have this child.

Denise smiled mockingly. “Aurelia, you look like a dog trying to protect a puppy. It’s such an ugly sight.”

William stared at my tummy and frowned. “If the news about me getting cheated on spread, I would no longer be able to have my footing in this city. Denise, step on her and kill the child!”

I kept shaking my head as I spat blood and the broken shards out. Then, I said in pain, “The child… belongs to… Gideon…”

William was momentarily stunned after he heard that. Then, he guffawed maniacally.

“Aurelia, you’re such a liar! Everyone in this city knows that my uncle doesn’t like women, and he’s basically infertile.

“I’m the only heir to the marquis title. Otherwise, why do you think my grandfather was so desperate for me to marry you? He wants me to have children soon.”

Denise agreed, “William’s the only heir. In order to force him to inherit the marquis title, grandfather even threatened to take his name off the family tree.

“You’re ridiculous. How dare you slander our uncle after being exposed?”

William had eloped with Denise for three years, and he did not even send a letter home. His grandfather, Peter Taylor, had been extremely disappointed in him, hence he wanted to cut him off.

However, both of them seemed to be delusional. In order not to further agitate them, I did not refute their words.

I repeated again, “I’m not lying. I’m really pregnant with Gideon’s child.

“If you don’t believe me, you can send someone to verify it with Gideon.”

William grabbed my chin and said, “Gideon is infamously unhinged. Everyone is afraid of that ruthless general.

“If he knows that I can’t even settle a simple matter like cheating on my own, he’ll think that I’m useless. Then, the position of the marquis won't be passed to me.

“Aurelia, I bet this is why you wanted me to bother my uncle, right?”

I immediately shook my head. “No, I’m pregnant with…”

Before I could finish talking, Denise stepped on my tummy. “William, why are you wasting time on this promiscuous woman? Let’s just kill the child so we can tell this achievement to our grandfather.”

I felt an excruciating pain in my tummy. I could feel my child twisting and turning, and I felt an indescribable fear that I had never felt before.

I looked at them and begged, “Please, please let my child live…”

Denise said to me, “Get onto your knees and bark like a dog, and say that you’re a promiscuous woman. Then, I’ll let your child live.”

If Peter was so determined to save William, my stance was even firmer. Gideon was the person-in-charge in this family, so Peter would be no match to him. However, he was begging to take his grandson’s place and receive his punishment on behalf. I did not know what to do. Gideon supported me from behind and swept his gaze sharply across the soldiers. Then, he yelled at them fiercely, “Are you all dead? Why are you letting the marquis do this? Quick, bring him away.”The soldiers immediately came to their senses. Two of them went forward to help the marquis. Gideon saw that I was conflicted. Then, he took the metal rod from my hands and said, “I’m the child’s father. I should be the one avenging him. Aurelia, step aside. I don’t want you to see this.” William and Denise had lost their final protector. They watched in fear as they saw Gideon walk toward them with the metal rod. They trembled. “Gideon, I’m your nephew! If you kill me, how are you going to face your father? How a

She forcefully hit her forehead against the stone ground to beg for my forgiveness. “Aurelia, you should punish the right person. William’s the one who killed your child. It has nothing to do with me. You should take revenge on him and let me go.”William glared at Denise after hearing that. “How dare you lie to me?”Since the truth was revealed, Denise no longer put up an act. “You are at fault for this! You were so stupid to believe my words!” William burst forth with a surge of manic strength and struggled free from the soldiers. Then, he lurched at Denise. “You hag! I ended up here because of you! I will kill you!” They fought. Even though Denise was not as strong as William, she was cunning. She aimed at William’s wounds to attack him. I took a few steps back and watched as they turned onto one another. In the end, William won due to brute strength and choked Denise. Denise’s eyes rolled back and she turned blue. I nudged the soldier to step forward and pull William as

Gideon hugged me and our baby tightly as a murderous glint flashed in his eyes. “Aurelia, don’t worry, I’ll never let go of the people who harmed you and our baby. “What both of you have suffered today, I’ll make them suffer a hundred times worse.”I held the baby in my arms for a full day before I finally accepted the truth that he was gone forever. Gideon and I buried our child in our family burial ground. The soldiers brought William and Denise to us and forced them to kneel down before the baby’s grave. It had only been a day, but I almost could not recognize the two people before me. William and Denise looked like a mess with their swollen cheeks. Their limbs and bodies were covered in wounds and marks. Gideon had instructed his soldiers to hit them with whips that were covered in pepper juice. Then, the soldiers had thrown them into a dirty pond for a night. They reeked. Gideon passed a metal rod to me. “Aurelia, you can do whatever you want to them. I’ll take ca

After Peter said that, William and Denise were stunned for a long while. Then, William finally asked, “How is that possible? Aurelia’s my wife, how can she marry my uncle? Besides, I thought that Gideon doesn’t like women and that he’s infertile?”Peter stared at William in anger and disappointment. “When you escaped the wedding in the past, Gideon replaced you and married Aurelia. Everyone in this city knows about it. How could you not know?”William was stunned. After he eloped with Denise, he was afraid that his family would capture him. Hence, they cut ties and news from the city and spent their days wandering. Eventually, they had spent all their money. They were completely broke. They even had to pawn their jewelery in order to return. After they entered the city, they immediately returned home. Hence, they did not have time to catch up with the news. “It’s true that Gideon’s infertile, but it’s not completely hopeless. He’s gone to many famous doctors all these years bef

Gideon’s roar gave William a fright. He then tossed the rope aside. He had been extremely afraid of his stoned-face uncle since childhood. However, when he saw Peter, who had walked in after Gideon, he was calmed again. He was the only heir, so Peter had always doted on him. He rushed forward to hug Peter and pretended to cry. “Grandfather, I’ve missed you so much for the past three years.”Denise also walked forward. She was an adopted child, so she was not as close to Peter as William was. She stood aside and said, “Grandfather, William and I have learned our mistakes. William also decided to marry Ms. Anderson. We just didn’t expect…”William said angrily, “But this promiscuous woman is too shameless! She cheated on me and got pregnant, then she pretended that child belongs to our family!“But don’t worry, grandfather. I’ve already killed the child. I’ll never let our family get humiliated!” After Peter heard that, he pushed William aside. He saw that I was barely alive, ly

In order to protect my child, I did not hesitate. I turned around and fell onto my knees and barked. Then, I said with a trembling voice, “I’m a promiscuous woman.”Denise leaned forward and met my eyes. Then, she smiled smugly. “Aurelia, back then, when I begged you to not marry William, have you ever thought that you’d be begging to me in the future?”Back then, Denise came to me and told me that she was in love with William. She had asked me to call off the marriage. However, my marriage with Willian was an arranged marriage. Both of our parents had agreed to it. It represented a strong bond between the two families. If I called off the wedding, my family would be impacted. Hence, I turned her down. I did not expect her to still hold a grudge after so long. However, I had no time to discuss the past with her. I looked at them and begged, “Please, please call a doctor for me.” William stepped on my back forcefully. “Aurelia, how shameless are you? You are willing to do an
