Chapter 3

Author: Golden Time
There seemed to be no end to the cards. The drawer was full of them.

I closed the drawer and turned off the light in the room.

I brought my lawyer and went to John’s company the next day. As expected, he refused to see me.

I waved before someone got me a lawn chair. I put on my sunglasses and played the recording of me asking for the shares from the previous day. I even put it on a loop.

Initially, I had established the company with John. I simply wanted the shares I was entitled to.

When the superiors of the company heard the recording, they looked at each other in dismay.

John finally exited the building when I had played the recording for the eighth time. He pinched my wrist tightly and forcefully pulled me into his office.

He pinned me against the wall with one hand and asked me something, his eyes turning bloodshot.

“What do you want, Grace?!”

I took off my sunglasses and frowned.

“First, shares. Second, a divorce. Mr. Miller, I’ve got to say you can’t understand people.”

Hearing that, John lowered his head and chuckled. Then, he looked at me with mockery. “Grace, can’t you use another method to try and win me back?”

When Lana had a high fever the other day, I had threatened John to come home by using divorce.

When Lana sprained her ankle, I made a scene and refused to let go, though he had just driven Lana home.

All of these incidents ultimately led to my apology.

“Haven’t you heard of The Boy who Cried Wolf?”

I tilted my head to stop him from getting close to my face. “Don’t you want to pick? Fine. Tonight’s your birthday party. I’ll give you a big gift that you’ve been dreaming of.”

John did not stop me from leaving. Instead, he confidently pocketed his hands and leaned against the bookshelf. Then, he picked up the phone beside him, which was still on a call.

“You heard that? Grace still cares about me. She remembers my birthday and got me a gift. She was just angry at me. Don’t ever tell me something bizarre again, as if she’d forcefully removed her feelings for me. How could she stop loving me?”

The man on the other end sounded helpless. After a long pause, he said, “Don’t overdo it, John.”

No, I was not making a scene. I cracked a smile as I left. I hoped that he would not be so calm when he saw the gift.

John’s birthday party was big and grandiose. It was attended by a lot of nobility and celebrities.

After I walked into the hall, I saw Lana walking among the crowd in a red, slim-fit gown while holding a glass of red wine with her right hand. She acted like the hostess.

At the sight of me, the crowd wore a complicated expression. They kept looking at Lana and me.

I walked toward John under their gaze and handed him a meticulously wrapped box.

John was initially lost in thought. When he noticed me, he looked up and met my gaze. First, he was nervous. When he saw the gift, he visibly grew eager.

Lane snorted, which was loud enough for the surrounding people to hear her.

The second floor was empty.I scanned my surroundings and only went to the third floor when I confirmed that it was safe. When I ascended the stairs, I spotted something hanging in a distant corner. The moonlight was dim, and I could not turn on the torch on my phone without giving my position away. After some contemplation, I took baby steps toward it.When I was only nine feet away, I finally realized that it was a human being. To be more specific, it was a dead body. His body was full of blood, but his arms dangled on either side of him in such a way they seemed boneless.I tilted his head and tried to see his face clearly. At that time, the clouds finally faded. The moonlight shone on the shop.It was the spy that I had put in John’s company.“Oh, shoot!” Worry finally overcame me. I hurriedly turned and ran downstairs. But I heard a malicious chuckle before I could escape.“Let’s have a reunion since you’re here, Grace.”Before I could speak, he gripped my right shoulder

After my thorough analysis, such words would hurt John more.As expected, his face instantly fell. The previous displays of tenderness and love were nothing but illusions.I rushed out of my room and closed the door loudly with a slam. When I tried to heave a sigh of relief, I saw Lana, who was kneeling at the door while looking teary. Since it was autumn, the nights were especially chilly. I would tremble if I did not put on a jacket. But Lana was still wearing that engagement gown. I had no idea how long she had been kneeling there. Her calves were swollen and purplish. Besides, blood had drained out of her face. She immediately put on a smile when she heard the door open. Then, her face instantly sank when she noticed it was me.When she saw me, she quickly caught sight of the kiss marks on my neck. Her eyes narrowed, and she cursed me with hatred. “Do you really think John loves you? You can’t snatch him away from me. Nobody can!”I chuckled because of her words as a lo

“Please put away your bad acting skills and stop challenging my intelligence.”John had naturally put his right hand in my shirt while I was talking. He kept touching my body and gradually became a little aroused. When I scanned how much wine he had drunk, I also scanned his passion levels. His passion only rose, which struck me dumb. I had been with him for five years. We were by each other’s side for nearly two thousand days. During the initial few years, we loved each other. But later, he got tangled up with Lana and left me with nothing but endless pain.I got stuck in such an abyss and helplessly tried to grab everything I could. I wanted to find support to help me stand up. I gave him my support and tried my best to hold him. But instead, I stepped into the mud and got quite miserable. When I eliminated the lovesick part of my brain, I knew very well that I could never get his love again. At the sight of such data, the operating system in my brain started glitching. My

Enraged, Lana’s father texted John a voice message. His voice was full of hatred and fury as he kept repeating himself. “How dare you, John Miller!”He sounded murderous. It was as if he wanted to hack John into pieces to vent his resentment. But still, words failed him. In the end, he died from a heart attack. When his secretary found him, he was already long dead. Logically, Lana should hate John for such a heinous deed. No child would remain bewitched in the face of such concrete proof.I turned to glance at Lana, but I failed to catch any hatred in her. She was merely shocked and heartbroken. Her lips kept trembling. She had to take a deep breath to speak clearly. “John, is this… true?”Her bloodshot eyes turned teary. But I managed to analyze the reason for her tears. It was mostly due to heartbreak. There was some mixture of shock and shame in her eyes, but her father’s passing only gave her a negligible amount of grief.I touched my chin and contemplated it. Lana prob

John was momentarily stunned. When he looked up again, he displayed a gentle smile.“Do you have to make such a scene?” He sounded helpless. “You tried to slander me using this method to make me give in just because I wanted to get engaged to Lana.”He stared at me, though the piteous cries from the video resonated in the entire hall. He was still calm.I smiled, but everyone could see the hostility emanating from me. I twirled the microphone in my hand.“It looks like one gift isn’t enough for you. But it’s fine. I can give you a better one.”Then, I raised my hand to press a button on the remote control to change the video. However, John quickly got on the stage and snatched the remote from my hand. “Hey, be good. Stop making a scene. I held this engagement party with Lana just to make you jealous. Now I’ve confirmed that you still love me.”Then, he turned and looked at Lana, who was wearing a gown. He realized that she was grasping her hands in front of her body and could

“People come bearing invaluable gifts to celebrate John’s birthday. Grace, you use John’s card even when you buy a bag worth a little more than ten thousand dollars. Well, it’s great that you’re so thoughtful. But why waste the money?”Lana’s underlying meaning was clear. She claimed that I could only rely on men and that I could not afford anything on my own. In the end, I was just depending on John’s money. When the onlookers heard that, they took Lana’s side and looked at me contemptuously. I calmly watched John unwrap the gift. When he pulled off the last ribbon, the object was finally revealed. The noisy hall fell silent.I indifferently smiled and clapped. “Happy birthday, John. Sign it. It’s the best gift you’ve got today!”Of course, it was not a gift, but a neatly folded divorce agreement. The crowd quickly fell into an uproar. John’s initial glee while unwrapping the gift had vanished. His expression turned frighteningly hideous.Everyone else had laughed at me f
