On the first day the real heir, Kyle Snider, reunites with the Snider family, he slashes his arm on purpose and frames me for doing it with red-rimmed eyes. My adoptive dad, Jeremy Snider, doesn't hesitate to slap me without even getting to the bottom of the incident. When I turn my head, I can see the fortune score above everyone's heads. The score above Jeremy reads, "Fortune score: 8%. In three days, his investment will implode, leaving him saddled with a ten-million-dollar debt." Then, I turn to look at Kyle, whose eyes are still reddened. He lowers his head afterward. "Surely Nathan didn't do this on purpose. Please don't cast him out. I'm fine suffering from a little grievance…" Meanwhile, Jeremy, who used to view me as the apple of his eye, has nothing but disdain toward me. "You've stolen 20 years of Kyle's life, and yet you have the guts to slash him with a blade? Just how vile are you, Nathan?" As for Lilian Snider, my older sister who used to dote on me the most, throws my suitcase out of the front door. She roars at me, "Get lost right now! Ingrates like you don't deserve to stay here!" I don't say anything. Instead, I just look at the row of words floating above Lilian's head quietly. "Fortune score: 5%. In two hours, she will get caught in a multi-vehicle collision, leading to her legs getting amputated." I caress my cheek, which has gone numb from Jeremy's slap. Then, I slowly rip up the protective charms I've just gotten for them into pieces. After that, I pick up my suitcase. "Fine. I'm leaving." As soon as the front door is closed, I see the number above Kyle's head flickering once. "Fortune score: 85%. In the middle of absorbing the Sniders' fortune luck."

Chapter 1

A torrential downpour hit the moment I stepped outside the gates of Snider Manor.

The rain soaked me to the bone instantly as I dragged my suitcase down the roadside.

Suddenly, an engine roared behind me.

My adoptive sister, Lilian Snider, tore past in her sports car. Her tires hit a puddle and sprayed me with muddy water.

She slammed on the brakes right in front of me and lowered the window. Her face was twisted into a mocking sneer.

"Nathan, you can't feed yourself without us! Even if you freeze to death on the streets tonight, don't come begging me to let you back in!"

The moment she said that, the glowing stat above her head—"Fortune score: 5%"—flickered violently and plummeted to 1%.

Death was staring her in the face, and she didn't even know it.

"Don't worry. Even if you begged me, I wouldn't come back," I said.

Lilian scoffed, stepped on the gas, and sped off.

I turned around and headed straight for the antique street.

Suddenly, a cracked boulder used to prop up a shaky table at a corner stall caught my eye.

It was caked in dirt and mud, but to my eyes, it radiated a blinding glow.

"Fortune score: 99%. Contains top-tier emeralds."

I walked over, slapped my last 80 dollars onto the table, and said, "Sir, I'll take this stone. Cut it right here."

The bystanders burst into laughter, mocking a beggar like me for trying his hand at stone gambling.

But as the blade of the saw sliced down, a streak of vibrant green exposed itself.

"Holy shit! Emerald! It's solid green!"

The crowd erupted, and the people who had just been laughing looked like their eyes were about to pop out.

Ten minutes later, after a local jeweler wired one million dollars into my account, I slipped my brand-new black bank card into my pocket.

With this money, I could finally cut ties with the Sniders and start over.

As I stepped out of the antique street, three cars suddenly roared up and blocked my path, boxing me in.

The doors flew open, and my adoptive father, Jeremy Snider, stepped out with several bodyguards.

His eyes were bloodshot as he shrieked, "You jinx! Lilian just got into a car crash and lost her legs! You did this to her!

"Tie him up and get him to the hospital! Even if we have to drain every drop of his blood, he's going to save Lilian!"
