Chapter 2

Author: 12 Cents
Liam immediately put on a pitiful expression and said to Megan, "Ms. Grant, since I'm that useless, maybe I should just leave."

He turned to walk out the door.

Megan panicked and grabbed him. "Who said you're useless? As long as I'm around, no one can kick you out!"

Then, she turned to me and snapped, "Flynn, I'm so disappointed in you! How could you use your seniority to bully your junior? Liam works hard and takes his job seriously. He may only be an assistant now, but I believe that with enough time, he'll become one of the industry's rising stars!"

I couldn't help but laugh when I heard that.

Ever since Liam joined the company, Megan had blindly believed in his abilities and repeatedly handed him important projects to give him experience.

The result? He had botched several major deals and nearly offended one of our long-standing suppliers.

If I hadn't swallowed my pride and personally gone to apologize and make amends, the supplier would have escalated the matter to our headquarters.

If that had happened, neither of them would have been able to sit here acting so smug.

When I said nothing, Megan mistook my silence as an admission that I had realized my mistake.

After a moment, she softened her tone. "Enough. Liam only made the suggestion in good faith. It would silence the rumors and give you a reason to stay with the company. It'll also allow the other employees opportunities to benefit from those projects. What's so wrong with that?"

The employees who had been exchanging glances suddenly caught on.

Any one of the projects under my name would be a major boost to their resumes.

One of them quickly chimed in. "Flynn, you handle so much of the company's business. The rest of us usually only get the leftovers. Why not take this chance to give us a piece of the action? Besides, your reputation is already ruined. If you leave here, no other company is going to want you."

"That's right," another staff member echoed. "You should apologize to Liam and ask him to forgive you."

For years, I worked myself to the bone bringing new clients and business partners to the company.

I had turned this branch into the most profitable division under HQ.

Every year, I made sure the entire team received substantial bonuses and incentives.

Now, they were turning around and accusing me of hoarding too much of the business?

I looked at the faces of the ones who had spoken. Some of them were people I personally mentored.

Liam could no longer hide the smug satisfaction in his eyes, though he still maintained his kind expression. "Flynn, as long as you apologize to me, I can forgive you for what you said."

Megan looked relieved. "Liam, you're so kind and generous. Even without Flynn, I believe someone with your abilities can take over those projects and get everything running smoothly."

Then, she shot me an impatient look, lowering her voice. "Stop being stubborn. I'm giving you a chance here, so take it. Don't worry. Once this whole thing blows over, I'll make it up to you. I'll make our marriage public."

I could not help but laugh.

She had dangled that promise in front of me so many times that I had gotten completely sick of it.

Besides, it was Liam who secretly misappropriated company funds and falsified the accounts.

Megan dumped all the blame on me to protect him.

Yet now, they were acting like saviors, expecting me to be grateful?

Did they really think I was an idiot?

I simply shrugged and said mockingly, "If Liam is really that capable, then give him everything. I'll be looking forward to hearing about your success."

As I listened to her story, which was getting increasingly ridiculous, I could not help but frown. "Megan Grant, we're separated now."Megan did not seem to care. "Being separated doesn't mean we're divorced. We've been together for ten years. We have plenty of chances to start over."Since Megan had refused to sign the divorce papers, our divorce had yet to be finalized. There was no point in arguing with her. I took out the divorce petition, along with all the videos and text messages Liam had sent me."These are all evidence of how you betrayed me," I said, showing them to her. "Along with the testimony from Mr. Davis and the others, it's more than enough to prove that our marriage has completely broken down. It's only a matter of time before the court grants the divorce. You're on your own after that."I stood up and turned to leave. However, Megan could not accept it. She hurried after me and grabbed my arm. "Flynn, there was nothing between Liam and me! I only treated him d

Megan's reputation in the industry was completely ruined, so no company was willing to hire her.In the end, she had no choice but to survive on odd jobs.As for Liam, no one knew where he had disappeared to. He still had not been caught.I wasn't sure whether I should consider myself lucky, but when Megan and I got married, she insisted on signing a prenup. Thanks to that, none of this had any financial impact on me.To cut ties with Megan as quickly as possible, I hired a lawyer to file for divorce.I thought that after that, we'd have nothing to do with each other again.I was wrong. One day, just as I arrived at my new office, I saw Megan standing outside the building. She looked nothing like the confident woman she had once been. She looked so worn down that she seemed ten years older. The moment she saw me, she rushed over with tears welling in her eyes. "Flynn, please help me. Just this one last time. I know you have a close relationship with Mr. Davis. If you could ju

To help Megan recover from that ordeal as quickly as possible, I made a private arrangement with Sam.I promised that if he agreed to make Megan the president, I would stay and help turn it into the most profitable division in the company.Unfortunately, that chapter of my life ended just like our marriage had. After seven years, it came to an abrupt end.I said calmly, "It's all in the past. There's no need to bring it up."Peter wisely fell silent.Sam glanced at Megan, growing angrier the more he thought about it. "You took a perfectly good company and turned it into a complete mess! "Not only did you allow employees to frame their colleagues, but you even had the nerve to fire one of the people who built this branch! If anyone deserves to be fired, it's you!"With that, he immediately ordered Peter to publish an announcement on the company's website and group chat, formally removing Megan from her position as president and clearing my name. Finally, he instructed HR to te

How could Liam seriously bring such a pathetic excuse to Sam?Yet, to my surprise, Megan actually believed him.She looked back and forth suspiciously between Alan and me before suddenly snapping at me. "Flynn, I thought the worst you'd do was get jealous and throw a little tantrum. I never imagined you'd stoop this low!"Everyone else was stunned. They stared at Megan with expressions that were impossible to describe.I could practically see the word "embarrassing" written across Sam's face. Finally, he could not take it anymore and snapped, "Enough! You're the president of a company, yet you're shrieking here like a hysterical woman. Have you lost your dignity?"Megan's face instantly flushed red.She opened her mouth to defend herself, but Sam continued, "When we established the branch, I personally instructed Flynn to install monitoring software on every computer. If you're questioning the authenticity of this footage, does that mean you're suggesting that I fabricated it?"

The moment Liam heard his name, he instantly lost his composure. "T-That's nonsense!"I ignored him and handed the USB drive to Sam's secretary, Peter, who plugged it into a computer. The next second, every action performed on Liam's computer appeared on the screen. At various times, he had repeatedly transferred money from the company's accounts into a personal bank account. He had even quietly altered the financial records afterward to conceal the missing funds. For a moment, everyone fell silent.Even Megan, who had been determined to protect Liam, was at a loss for words.Sam snorted coldly. "Well? Do you have anything to say, Liam?"The evidence was undeniable, but Liam still refused to give up. He pleaded pitifully, "Mr. Davis, you have to believe me! I've always been completely loyal to the company. Flynn must have deliberately set me up!"He's hated me for a long time. He must have known you were coming here today and fabricated this video just to frame me!"Megan cou

Seeing his chance to move up slip away once again, Liam glared at me with resentment, but his words remained agreeable. "That's right, Flynn. Megan just looked after me for one night because she's kind. Don't get the wrong idea."Back when I was working on a project, I had attended nine business dinners in just three days and ended up in the hospital for a bleeding ulcer. Megan claimed she was too busy with work and never came to see me once. Now, when Liam had a questionable case of stomach trouble, she was worried enough to spend the entire night by his side. The fact that they were of the opposite sex and spending the night alone together didn't seem to bother her in the slightest. It was clearly just a difference of who mattered to her and who didn't.Even though she said that she wouldn't divorce me, I knew that it wasn't because of love. For ten years, I had devoted myself entirely to her.Wherever she needed something, I was always the first to provide it.She was used t
