Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
I thought about everything that had happened in the past. I stayed awake in the darkness for the entire night.

I never thought that after something as absurd as becoming Quiana, I would still have to endure this kind of inhuman torture.

Early the next morning, someone kicked open the iron basement door from the outside.

“Come out and eat.”

Xander’s cold voice came from above me.

I held onto the wall and followed him to the dining room. My steps were unsteady.

My stomach cramped painfully from hunger. Out of habit, I walked toward the seat in the corner of the dining table.

A porcelain bowl with pink floral patterns sat there. It was my bowl. Moon’s bowl.

Thud!

Hugo suddenly kicked the back of my knee.

I was not prepared for it. My whole body fell heavily to the floor.

“Who gave you permission to touch her things?”

Hugo stared at me with wide eyes. The look in his eyes made me afraid.

Then, he raised his hand and pointed at the familiar corner of the room.

“Your bowl is over there.”

I looked in the direction he pointed, and my mind went completely blank.

Quiana’s delicate porcelain bowl with a gold rim was sitting there in plain sight on the floor.

It was placed right beside the food bowl of the family’s ragdoll, Blue.

The scene looked painfully familiar.

On the second day after Quiana came into this family, she threw a fit and insisted on getting a dog.

My brothers immediately agreed and planned to take her to the pet store to pick one out.

But she suddenly picked up a spiked dog collar and put it around my neck with a smile.

“Why bother them? Don’t you think Moon looks just like a dog if she wears this and barks a few times?”

Back then, she had pointed at the food bowl on the floor just like Hugo did.

My brothers had clearly allowed her to do it.

At this moment, as I looked at the porcelain bowl placed beside the cat’s food bowl, I could no longer hold back my tears.

“Hugo… why are you treating me like this?”

The words came out of my mouth before I even realized it.

Hugo’s body suddenly stiffened when he heard me. His expression went blank for a moment.

Slap!

A slap even harder than yesterday’s struck my face. The force knocked me to the floor.

“You think you’re worthy of saying my name?!” Hugo roared in anger. “What kind of worthless piece of trash are you? You think you deserve to call me that?”

He grabbed me by the hair and dragged me up from the floor.

“Since you love pretending to be pitiful so much, I’ll let you have your fill of it!”

He dragged me over to the bowl, grabbed the back of my head, and shoved my face into the boiling-hot porridge.

“Ahhh!”

My scream filled the entire dining room.

The boiling-hot porridge immediately covered both my face and mouth. The unbearable pain of my burned flesh almost made me pass out instantly.

I felt like I was about to suffocate. Driven by the instinct to survive, I desperately swung my arms around.

My nails dug into the person holding me down and left several deep scratches on his arm.

“Ow! You crazy woman!”

Hugo cried out in pain and suddenly let go.

I collapsed onto the floor. I covered my face, which had turned bright red from the heat, and curled up in agony.

“Hugo, you’re bleeding!”

Theo checked his injuries.

“Drag this crazy woman out!”

Theo turned around and shouted at the bodyguards nearby.

Two burly bodyguards grabbed my arms and dragged me outside the villa like I was nothing but a piece of trash.

It was the middle of winter, and heavy snow covered the ground.

They kicked my legs and forced me to fall into the freezing snow.

“Break her leg.”

Theo’s voice was cold. There was not a trace of emotion in it.

“Make her stay there until she dies!”

Xander walked toward me with a thick baseball bat in his hand. His face was expressionless.

He raised the bat high and aimed it at my right leg.

This was exactly what Quiana had done to me back then. I had struggled and scratched her.

That was why they had broken my leg without hesitation and forced me to stay out in the snow for an entire night.

As I watched the bat come down toward me, the fear from my past swallowed me whole.

“Xander, I’m Moon!”

I squeezed my eyes shut and screamed with all my strength.

“Don’t hit me! Please, don’t hit me!”

Three years passed in the blink of an eye.I opened a small flower shop in a quiet town in the south. Life there was peaceful and fulfilling. The neighbors were kind and welcoming. No one knew anything about my absurd past.“Hey, can you wrap me a bouquet of sunflowers?”A clear male voice pulled me out of my thoughts.I looked up and saw the young owner of the coffee shop next door, Tyler Parker, standing in front of the counter with a bright smile.“Sure. Give me a second.”I smiled and reached for a few sunflowers that had bloomed beautifully.“What’s the occasion today? Who’s the lucky girl this time?”I joked as I wrapped the flowers. He scratched his head. A faint blush appeared on his face.“It’s not for someone else… I wanted to give them to you.”My hands paused for a moment. I looked up and met his sincere, passionate gaze.“Happy third anniversary of your flower shop.”He placed a beautifully decorated cake box in front of me.I looked at him, and a warmth I h

“Moon, we had our reasons.”I ignored them as they stood there, frozen. After dressing the wound, I took a cab home to pack my things. There was nothing much to pack. Everything that belonged to me had already been destroyed.I only took a few changes of clothes and stuffed them into an old canvas bag. When I came downstairs with the bag, the living room was so quiet that it felt suffocating.Several thick files were lying on the coffee table. They contained everything they had found over the past few days. They had finally uncovered the truth. They had finally confirmed that the person standing before them, the person who wore Quiana’s face, was their sister who had been driven to her death by their own hands.“Moon, where are you going?”Theo’s voice trembled. He stumbled toward me and reached for my bag.“Don’t touch me.”I avoided his hand and gave him a cold look.“I’ve already repaid the debt I owed you. I’m leaving.”“Leaving? Where will you go?”Hugo’s eyes were t

The atmosphere inside the church was suffocating.Theo stared at the silver lucky charm. He bit his lip so hard that it started to bleed. He slowly reached out to pick it up, but the moment his fingers touched the charm, he pulled his hand back.“Moon… do you really have to hurt us like this?”Hugo’s voice was hoarse. His eyes were filled with pain and desperation.“Hurt you?”I sneered.“When you forced my face into that boiling bowl of porridge, when you broke my leg and made me to stay in the snow all night, did you ever think about how much you hurt me?”Hugo had no answer. His face turned pale as he collapsed onto the floor. But I was not going to stop.Whatever I owed them, I would repay every single thing.I picked up the scissors from the floor and placed a bowl in front of me.“What are you doing?!”Xander jumped to his feet in panic.Right in front of them, I did not hesitate. I left a deep cut on my left wrist.Blood immediately began to drip into the bowl.“

Over the next few days, my brothers never came back to my hospital room. But I knew they had started to believe me.The bodyguards outside my door were gone, and the meals they sent me every day were all the dishes I used to love. They even carefully asked a nurse to bring me a new teddy bear. It looked exactly like the one that used to sit by my bed. When I looked at that teddy bear, I only found it painfully ironic. On the day I was discharged, I did not tell anyone.I had already made up my mind. No matter what they did to me, I would never look back again after repaying everything I owed them. I went to the church they had visited years ago. It had become old and run-down. The place was much smaller than I remembered.I picked up a pair of sharp scissors and a pair of hair clippers. Then I stood before the altar and prepared to shave my head.I had no idea how my brothers found out that I had been discharged. They arrived just before I was about to start.“Moon!”I igno

When I opened my eyes again, the familiar smell of the hospital filled my nose.I was still alive.Above me was the hospital’s stark white ceiling, and I was still trapped inside Quiana’s body.“You’re awake.”A hoarse voice came from beside my bed.I turned my head. All three of my brothers were there.Theo sat beside the hospital bed. His eyes were bloodshot from staying awake for so long. His hair was completely disheveled.Hugo and Xander stood behind him. Their faces were pale.“How do you know so much about Moon?“Who are you, really?”They looked at me as if they were facing a mortal enemy. I suddenly found it laughable. They still refused to believe I was their sister. In their eyes, I was still Quiana, the woman who would stop at nothing to win their favor. But I no longer cared whether they believed me or not.“Does it even matter who I am?”I calmly looked away.Hugo suddenly rushed over and grabbed my shoulders.“Don’t think you can avoid taking responsibil

Hugo stared at the dog tooth in my hand. His lips trembled violently.I had once begged Hugo to give it back to me.During those dark, hopeless days, it had been the only thing that kept me alive. But back then, he refused to listen to a single word I said. Instead, he slapped me again and accused me of pretending to be pitiful just to gain sympathy to frame Quiana.“Take her back to her room.”Theo took a deep breath and forced himself to stay calm.Their attitude toward me had noticeably softened. At the very least, the bodyguards no longer dragged me around like I was a piece of trash. They took me back upstairs. The moment the bedroom door opened, I finally let out a long sigh of relief. To be honest, I never wanted to go through those hellish days in the basement or out in the snow ever again. That night, I went to my brothers and carefully told them that I wanted to move back into my old room.Theo sat on the couch with a deep frown. He looked at me for a long time.
