Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
Hugo stared at the dog tooth in my hand. His lips trembled violently.

I had once begged Hugo to give it back to me.

During those dark, hopeless days, it had been the only thing that kept me alive.

But back then, he refused to listen to a single word I said. Instead, he slapped me again and accused me of pretending to be pitiful just to gain sympathy to frame Quiana.

“Take her back to her room.”

Theo took a deep breath and forced himself to stay calm.

Their attitude toward me had noticeably softened.

At the very least, the bodyguards no longer dragged me around like I was a piece of trash.

They took me back upstairs.

The moment the bedroom door opened, I finally let out a long sigh of relief.

To be honest, I never wanted to go through those hellish days in the basement or out in the snow ever again.

That night, I went to my brothers and carefully told them that I wanted to move back into my old room.

Theo sat on the couch with a deep frown.

He looked at me for a long time. I thought he was about to lose his temper again, but in the end, he simply nodded.

When I finally returned to the room that felt both familiar and unfamiliar, a strange warmth rose in my heart.

My brothers had cleaned the room. They had put everything back where it belonged.

The music box on the desk, the teddy bear beside the bed, and even the clothes in the wardrobe were all the ones I used to love.

Then I walked over to the desk.

I picked up the things that had once belonged to me, and I froze.

Everywhere my name, Moon Langford, had once appeared, it had been replaced with Quiana White.

I yanked open the drawer. I flipped through the photo album. I unlocked the small cabinet.

In the family photo, my picture had been replaced with Quiana’s. She had covered my diary, which was filled with my deepest secrets, with disgusting scribbles.

Quiana had scratched my name off the protective charm my mother had left me. The lucky charm my brothers had prayed for and gotten for me when I was little had also been re-engraved with Quiana’s name.

I completely lost control.

“Ahhh!”

Like a madwoman, I tore my diary to shreds and smashed the protective charm my mother had left me into pieces.

I grabbed the lucky charm my brothers had gotten for me and used it to smash everything in the room that could be broken. I pulled every piece of clothing out of the wardrobe and threw it onto the floor.

The commotion quickly drew everyone upstairs.

The moment my brothers saw the room in complete chaos and my frantic outburst, their faces changed. They rushed over to stop me.

“Have you lost your mind?! What are you doing?!”

Xander wrapped both arms around my waist and pulled me back with all his strength.

Hugo looked at the diary that had been torn to pieces and the shattered protective charm my mother had left me. His whole body shook with rage.

“I knew you were putting on an act! You’re Quiana after all! You still hate everything that belonged to Moon!”

“I hate her?”

I stopped struggling and turned to glare at them.

I suddenly held the lucky charm up in front of them.

My brothers had gotten it for me when I was born seriously ill. The three of them had gone to the church together. Each of them had shaved half their head as an offering.

They had prayed for forty-nine days before they received this lucky charm to protect me and keep me alive.

“You keep saying you loved Moon, yet you wouldn’t even leave her name on the things that belonged to her!”

I used every bit of strength I had and threw the lucky charm out the window.

“I don’t want this stupid thing anymore!”

The lucky charm flew dozens of yards through the night before it disappeared into the darkness.

“You’re asking for it!”

Theo completely lost his temper. He raised his hand and charged toward me.

The moment he charged over, I turned around and climbed onto the windowsill.

The night wind blew through my thin nightgown.

As my body tipped backward, I saw the terror on their faces.

“I pray not to be your sister in my next life.”

Three years passed in the blink of an eye.I opened a small flower shop in a quiet town in the south. Life there was peaceful and fulfilling. The neighbors were kind and welcoming. No one knew anything about my absurd past.“Hey, can you wrap me a bouquet of sunflowers?”A clear male voice pulled me out of my thoughts.I looked up and saw the young owner of the coffee shop next door, Tyler Parker, standing in front of the counter with a bright smile.“Sure. Give me a second.”I smiled and reached for a few sunflowers that had bloomed beautifully.“What’s the occasion today? Who’s the lucky girl this time?”I joked as I wrapped the flowers. He scratched his head. A faint blush appeared on his face.“It’s not for someone else… I wanted to give them to you.”My hands paused for a moment. I looked up and met his sincere, passionate gaze.“Happy third anniversary of your flower shop.”He placed a beautifully decorated cake box in front of me.I looked at him, and a warmth I h

“Moon, we had our reasons.”I ignored them as they stood there, frozen. After dressing the wound, I took a cab home to pack my things. There was nothing much to pack. Everything that belonged to me had already been destroyed.I only took a few changes of clothes and stuffed them into an old canvas bag. When I came downstairs with the bag, the living room was so quiet that it felt suffocating.Several thick files were lying on the coffee table. They contained everything they had found over the past few days. They had finally uncovered the truth. They had finally confirmed that the person standing before them, the person who wore Quiana’s face, was their sister who had been driven to her death by their own hands.“Moon, where are you going?”Theo’s voice trembled. He stumbled toward me and reached for my bag.“Don’t touch me.”I avoided his hand and gave him a cold look.“I’ve already repaid the debt I owed you. I’m leaving.”“Leaving? Where will you go?”Hugo’s eyes were t

The atmosphere inside the church was suffocating.Theo stared at the silver lucky charm. He bit his lip so hard that it started to bleed. He slowly reached out to pick it up, but the moment his fingers touched the charm, he pulled his hand back.“Moon… do you really have to hurt us like this?”Hugo’s voice was hoarse. His eyes were filled with pain and desperation.“Hurt you?”I sneered.“When you forced my face into that boiling bowl of porridge, when you broke my leg and made me to stay in the snow all night, did you ever think about how much you hurt me?”Hugo had no answer. His face turned pale as he collapsed onto the floor. But I was not going to stop.Whatever I owed them, I would repay every single thing.I picked up the scissors from the floor and placed a bowl in front of me.“What are you doing?!”Xander jumped to his feet in panic.Right in front of them, I did not hesitate. I left a deep cut on my left wrist.Blood immediately began to drip into the bowl.“

Over the next few days, my brothers never came back to my hospital room. But I knew they had started to believe me.The bodyguards outside my door were gone, and the meals they sent me every day were all the dishes I used to love. They even carefully asked a nurse to bring me a new teddy bear. It looked exactly like the one that used to sit by my bed. When I looked at that teddy bear, I only found it painfully ironic. On the day I was discharged, I did not tell anyone.I had already made up my mind. No matter what they did to me, I would never look back again after repaying everything I owed them. I went to the church they had visited years ago. It had become old and run-down. The place was much smaller than I remembered.I picked up a pair of sharp scissors and a pair of hair clippers. Then I stood before the altar and prepared to shave my head.I had no idea how my brothers found out that I had been discharged. They arrived just before I was about to start.“Moon!”I igno

When I opened my eyes again, the familiar smell of the hospital filled my nose.I was still alive.Above me was the hospital’s stark white ceiling, and I was still trapped inside Quiana’s body.“You’re awake.”A hoarse voice came from beside my bed.I turned my head. All three of my brothers were there.Theo sat beside the hospital bed. His eyes were bloodshot from staying awake for so long. His hair was completely disheveled.Hugo and Xander stood behind him. Their faces were pale.“How do you know so much about Moon?“Who are you, really?”They looked at me as if they were facing a mortal enemy. I suddenly found it laughable. They still refused to believe I was their sister. In their eyes, I was still Quiana, the woman who would stop at nothing to win their favor. But I no longer cared whether they believed me or not.“Does it even matter who I am?”I calmly looked away.Hugo suddenly rushed over and grabbed my shoulders.“Don’t think you can avoid taking responsibil
