Chapter 3 I Quit

Author: Sweet Beet
Rosetta immediately ordered my demotion, stripping me of my manager position and reducing me to an ordinary employee.

After the meeting, HR came to tell me to vacate my office. My new workspace was a corner directly opposite the restroom, where a faint, unpleasant smell lingered.

Everyone kept their heads down, knowing I had angered Rosetta and was being deliberately targeted. All morning, not a single colleague spoke to me.

Looking at the company I had devoted seven years of my life to, I realized that, just like Rosetta, it no longer had a place for me.

Then, I sent a text message. Less than a minute later, I received a reply.

"Wayne, I'm so glad you've agreed to join my new company! I'll make you a general manager, with an annual salary starting at three hundred million, plus five percent commission on the company's total profits. If there's anything you're unhappy with, just tell me. I'll do my best to accommodate you."

Jason Graham had recently started a new company and wanted me to manage it. He had reached out thrice, but I'd always refused because of Rosetta.

Now, there was nothing left worth staying for.

I replied, "Thank you for your confidence in me, Mr. Graham. Your offer is already very generous. I won't disappoint you."

We agreed that I would start in seven days. After that, I immediately wrote my resignation letter and submitted it to HR. However, the HR manager said he didn't have the authority to approve it and told me to get Rosetta's signature.

I took a deep breath and knocked on her office door.

Although I had secretly been Rosetta's boyfriend for five years, I had never enjoyed any special privileges. Even during breaks, I had to knock before entering her office.

"Come in."

I opened the door.

Rosetta and Kevin sat on the leather sofa in the lounge, having lunch together. Neither bothered to stand when they saw me.

When I handed her my resignation letter, Rosetta didn't even look at it.

Instead, she questioned me sternly, "Wayne, you're no longer a manager. You're just an ordinary employee now. Someone at your level isn't qualified to come directly to me for signatures on documents."

Before I could respond, Kevin chimed in, "Ms. Walter, Mr. Watson was only just demoted. He's probably still adjusting to his new title. Since he's already brought the document here, why not sign it? Otherwise, the other employees might laugh at him."

Kevin had intended to humiliate me.

However, after hearing his words, Rosetta snatched the resignation letter from my hand and signed it without even reading it. Then, she said coldly, "This is a one-time exception. Don't let it happen again."

I never expected the only special treatment I would receive from her to be her signature on my resignation letter.

I smiled and said, "Don't worry, Ms. Walter. There won't be a next time."

Then, I took the letter to HR.

After confirming Rosetta's signature, the manager stamped and approved my resignation. "I'll send someone to take over your duties later. You don't need to come in tomorrow."

…

That evening, I left the company while carrying my few personal belongings.

Rosetta sent me a message.

"I've always kept work and personal matters separate. Although we had an unpleasant disagreement at the office today, you're still my boyfriend outside working hours. Ms. Selina is coming tomorrow to discuss a project and specifically requested you as her host. Make sure everything is taken care of."

At the same time, Kevin posted another update.

"I just mentioned wanting seafood, and my boss took me to a seafood buffet! I'm so lucky to have a boss like her! I'm going to work for this company for the rest of my life!"

Seeing this, I couldn't help but laugh bitterly.

Did she really expect me to keep working for her when she was taking Kevin out for a seafood buffet?

I immediately sent her a message. "I've already resigned. Get someone else to host Ms. Selina. We're over, Rosetta."

Natasha tried to calm me down, though she seemed a little inexperienced. "Just hold on a little longer. I'll get you to the hospital right away."I raised my hand and playfully touched her cheek."Hurry up, or I really won't be able to hold back much longer... I might just have you."A suspicious blush spread across Natasha's face. For once, she didn't argue. She drove as fast as she safely could and took me straight to the hospital. Natasha immediately refused. "I'm not going. I hate these gatherings. Everyone wears a fake mask, trying to flatter one another."I looked at her and said sternly, "Natasha, not everyone is born into a wealthy family like yours, with the privilege of ignoring what others think. For ordinary people like us, knowing how to flatter others and maintain relationships is a necessary skill. I'm not here to ask for your opinion. I'm telling you that you have to come."She glared at me angrily and snapped, "What gives you the right to order me around, Wayne?"I raised an eyebrow and pretended to threaten her as I said, "Of course, I have no right to order you around. Our relationship is completely innocent. I don't like him at all!""You don't need to explain anything. Whether you like him or not is your business. I have no right to interfere, and I don't want to know either.""Wayne, you're my boyfriend. Of course you should know!"Hearing her words, I chuckled and reminded, "Have you forgotten? We've already broken up.""I don't agree with the breakup!" Rosetta panicked.I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous she sounded. "You don't need to agree. Kevin's words left Rosetta stunned. Looking back at her recent behavior, she realized how unreasonable she had been.At first, she had intended to make Wayne jealous. Don't think you can use this trick to force me to reinstate you as manager!"When she sent another message, she received no reply. When she didn't see me, she was immediately displeased.Seeing this, Rosetta asked sharply, "Where's Wayne? I told him he was supposed to host Ms. Selina today. Why is he late? Why did you approve it?"The HR manager quickly took out my resignation letter and pointed to the signature. "Ms. Walter, you personally approved this yesterday!"
