Chapter 2

Triple Threat
“Yes. You’re right,” I said in a neutral voice.

Unfortunately for Claudia, she was not going to get that chance.

Once Claudia got the response she wanted, she opened up her whole heart to me and started bragging. “Also, he showed me a photo of his wife before. She has a long scar on her stomach. It’s so ugly. He told me that he feels so sick that he wants to puke whenever he sees that scar on his wife’s stomach.”

Then, Claudia suddenly asked, “What on earth is on that woman’s mind, Miss Clark? Her stomach is so ugly, and she’s still clinging to my boyfriend. Is it because she lacks love?” She laughed, unable to help herself.

I laughed too, though my gaze was as cold as ice. “His wife probably couldn’t guess that he thought her stomach was ugly.”

Claudia raised an eyebrow and said firmly, “No way! Matthew is disgusted with her. Unless she’s an idiot, there’s no way she can’t tell. You have no idea, but he’s really passionate when he holds me. He tells me it’s because he has no interest in that ugly old hag at home, and he’s frustrated. If it were you, wouldn’t you find it strange if your husband didn’t sleep with you for three years?”

“I would, yes,” I answered frankly, but my gaze was numb as I stared at the wedding ring that I had been wearing for four years.

Matthew and I came from families of different social classes, but we had been together for eight years, from high school to marriage. Whenever I got sick, he would be anxious and run out of the school dorms to get medicine for me. Whenever I got sad, he would run a few blocks away to buy the candy I loved to make me laugh.

When I was pregnant up to the moment I gave birth, he never skipped a prenatal checkup with me.

Whenever he got home, he would first give my daughter and me a hug and say that we were the people he loved the most.

When we did not become physically intimate over the past two years, he only said, “Tina, you suffered greatly when you gave birth. I don’t want you to go through that again.”

I thought that it was normal for marriages to turn platonic as time passed. I never expected to learn that Matthew was not touching me because he was not interested in physical intimacy anymore, but rather because he was having his fill with another woman.

A chill crawled down my spine, and I asked my final question. “What are his demands for divorce? Does he just want his wife to ask for a divorce?”

Claudia shook her head. “Of course not. You can’t let the wife know that my boyfriend cheated on her either. You don’t know this, but my boyfriend married into her family. He worked hard to build his own business, though. Life has been really difficult for him. If his wife learns that he cheated on her, she won’t let him leave.”

I clenched my fingers but said nothing.

Worried, Claudia reminded me to not let myself learn that my own husband had cheated on me with the very woman sitting in front of me. “I know that you’re the best breakup specialist in Oceanville. I’ll leave my boyfriend’s divorce in your hands.”

“Leave it to me,” I promised with a smile.

Once she was gone, I immediately called my childhood friend.

“Send me your best private investigator and lawyer. I want to know everything that Matthew has done over the past three years. Also, tell my father that Matthew has cheated on me. Have him rescind all the investments over the past years. Since he said that he became successful through his own efforts, I want to see what he has left after we take away all the help we gave him.”

My childhood friend was incredibly efficient. As expected of my best business partner.

In just half a day, he tossed a 128 GB pen drive on my desk.

“Take a look. It’s all in there.”

I inserted the pen drive and opened the folder. The first video seemed to have been taken in some high-end restaurant. Matthew was dressed in a black suit and looked all prim and proper as he gave Claudia a huge bunch of Neptune roses.

Three months ago, on my birthday, Matthew had told me that he had to work overtime and only gave me a cheap, locally grown rose bought from a roadside stall for five dollars.

“Even without Claudia, you would have still cheated on me with some other woman. You never ever loved me. You only loved my wealth and my family background.”At these words, I left the visitation room, and I heard Matthew’s loud cries coming from behind me. Perhaps it was only at this moment that he truly regretted his actions, but it was already too late. Once Matthew was captured, the company faced increasing operation difficulties. Since he had embezzled company funds and gambled with them, he was condemned to rot in jail for a long time, but I had invested in that company too, so I could not just watch it fall to ruin because of the mistakes Matthew had made.Fortunately, all of Matthew’s shares returned to my hands. I became the company’s largest shareholder, and after some thinking, I decided to keep it running. When I joined the company, many people did not think I would succeed, not just because I had the public image of a rich heiress who had never been involved in com

“Alright. Whatever you say.”Right after I listened to the last sentence, I lost all my patience and sent all the evidence to the police. I absolutely had to make these two pay. News about the police investigating the company spread like wildfire. Matthew’s company was already hanging by a thread and only avoided bankruptcy thanks to my family’s help. Aside from the fact that it was under investigation, its stocks also plummeted. The bank called multiple times to demand payment. Meanwhile, he was stuck in jail and knew nothing about this. At the same time, word about Matthew cheating on me spread to every living person. As his affair partner, some attentive folks online soon doxxed Claudia. They noticed that three years ago, she had suddenly turned into an influencer, even though she had just graduated back then. She was even one of those influencers who flaunted her wealth. She had deceived multiple people by posing as a rich woman. She was presently being called out for owni

The police officers only cast her a quick glance. They remained unmoved. They brought out handcuffs and put them on Matthew’s, his uncle’s, and his cousin’s hands. “We can’t just accept your testimony as sole proof that this is just a misunderstanding. We’ll know once we go back to the police station and investigate this thoroughly.”Then, the police officers left with these three. The sudden turn of events made Claudia faint. She could hardly bear this sight, since she had thought that she could marry into a rich family with her illegitimate baby. But everyone else was worried about Matthew being captured, so no one cared about her. Soon after I left the house, Skye, my childhood friend, sent me another document.[These are all Matthew’s assets. We’ve applied to freeze all of his bank accounts.]After a minute, he sent another text. [Take a good look, Tina.]His hesitation made me instantly know that there was some dirty secret in the documents. But I no longer cared. No

“I don’t believe this! T-These are all fake! You made them up to compromise me!”He suddenly shoved Claudia away to charge at me and grab the remote. Then, as if he had gone mad, he yanked off the pen drive from the projector before throwing both devices on the floor and stomping on them. “These are all fake. Don’t believe in it.”As I stared at the crushed pieces on the floor, I said coldly, “You can destroy the remote and pen drive all you want. I have plenty of copies. Besides, do you really think that these are the only things I found?”“W-What else did you find?” Matthew asked with a quivering voice. When I remembered how he had let Claudia attend various events as Dulcie’s mother and involved my daughter, I seethed in rage. At this point, there was no need for me to hide anything from him anymore. I sneered and said, “You, your uncle, and cousin owe me a lot of money over the years, and it’s not just to do business, is it?”“What? What on earth are you saying? Of course

When Matthew saw that I was not showing him any respect, his face turned red, then pale. He did not dare refute his relatives’ words, nor did he have the courage to refute mine. That was why he could only stew in anger and not say anything. He could only stand with his hands hanging by his sides, like a child who had done wrong. A long time passed, and no one said a thing. In the end, it was Olivia who spoke up. She cast aside her protective, loving attitude toward Claudia and came over to hold my hand as she said apologetically, “Tina, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have asked Matthew to hide this from you. But Claudia is already pregnant with Matthew’s child, and we can’t just not accept her… Matthew’s child is also Dulcie’s brother. So, for Dulcie’s sake, can’t you accept Claudia and forgive Matthew?”As I listened to Olivia trying to guilt-trip me and remembered all the fake kindness she had shown to me, I found my stomach could only churn in disgust. Before I could tear her hyp

Matthew appeared dumbfounded as soon as he saw me.He could not understand why I was here instead of watching a movie at the shopping mall. Instinctively, he let go of Claudia’s hand. Then, with a quivering voice, he asked, “W-Why are you here, Tina?”This was the first time over the years that I heard such panic in his voice. He was looking everywhere but into my eyes. He had been lying to me for years, and I wondered whether he even held a shred of guilt in him. When Claudia saw me, her face turned very pale, and she could not say a single word. She had not expected to be happily bragging about her life as a mistress to her boyfriend’s actual wife.I walked into my in-laws’ place. The entire family lost their composure. They ducked their heads and did not dare look me in the eye either. Meanwhile, Olivia stood in a corner and looked troubled, even though she was usually on good terms with me and took great care of me. The relatives and friends who kept badmouthing me and pr
