Chapter 5

Author: Mountain River
There were four days left before I could leave.

Sebastian happily pulled out more than a dozen photos. Each one showed him with Roxanne in the snowy mountains.

In every picture, she beamed with joy, with the snowcapped peaks behind her.

Unable to wait, Sebastian video-called Roxanne. He held the photos up to the screen and said, "Look! I had them printed. Aren't they beautiful?"

On the other end, her playful giggles rang out.

When the call ended, Sebastian handed me the photos. "Take a look, Olivia. They're nice, aren't they?"

I merely glanced at them and replied flatly, "Not bad."

My voice sounded as casual as if I were talking about the weather, completely devoid of emotion.

Sebastian's smile faltered. Then, an inexplicable discomfort and a flicker of unease flashed across his eyes.

He looked like he wanted to say more, but in the end, he slipped the photos into an album in silence.

On the second-to-last day, I went for my scheduled prenatal checkup at the healing center.

I had just stepped out of the exam room when I bumped into Sebastian and Roxanne, who had also just finished their appointment.

Roxanne's gaze fell on the report in my hand, and a glint of malice flickered in her eyes.

In the next instant, she pulled away from Sebastian's hold, hurried toward me, and lowered her head. She shed crocodile tears while saying, "I'm sorry, Luna Olivia. Please don't blame Alpha Sebastian. It was all my fault. I begged him to switch our prenatal reports."

Seeing that, Sebastian rushed forward to support her. Yet, his gaze was fixed squarely on me.

"Olivia, this has nothing to do with Roxanne. I was the one who swapped your prenatal reports."

He spoke with a grim expression, as if braced for my fury.

But I calmly looked at him and replied softly, "I know. It's fine."

With that, I turned and walked away. The steadiness in my demeanor left them both frozen.

I had just slid into my car in the parking lot when Roxanne came running up and planted herself in front of it.

The sweetness and feigned fragility on her face vanished, replaced by blatant challenge.

"Olivia, you'll never beat me. To Sebastian, I'll always matter more than you or your pup. I'll always come first," she spat.

Her childish taunts only seemed pathetic to me.

I rested a hand on my belly, looked at her, and said coolly, "Instead of wasting your time telling me this, maybe you should worry about how you're going to keep your mate from realizing the pup you swapped isn't even his."

Roxanne's face immediately burned red with rage. It was obvious I had hit a nerve.

"Shut up!" she shouted.

Then, as if she had made up her mind, she suddenly threw herself to the ground in front of my car and let out a shrill, deliberate scream. "Olivia, w-why did you hit me with your car?"

Sebastian rushed over when he heard the commotion.

The moment he saw Roxanne on the ground, he didn't even hesitate. He stormed over and slammed his palm against my window.

"Olivia Sinclair! Have you lost your mind? Why would you run her over?" he roared, his eyes blazing with a fury that threatened to consume me.

I stared coldly at the man who couldn't tell right from wrong.

Rolling down the window, I met his wrath with an eerie calm. "I didn't hit her. There are security cameras here. Check the footage, and you'll see."

Roxanne's expression changed drastically when she heard the word "cameras". Panic flickered in her eyes before she clutched her stomach and let out a pitiful groan.

"My stomach… It hurts! Sebastian, please. Take me to the healer!"

All at once, Sebastian grew frantic. He no longer cared about the truth. Instead, he scooped her into his arms and rushed toward the healing center without sparing me a glance.

Right then and there, I knew that he had already condemned me. All I wanted was to escape this suffocating place. So, I started the engine.

However, before I could leave, several armored vehicles boxed me in.

The car door was yanked open, and a few towering warriors loomed over me, their expressions cold and unreadable.

"Luna Olivia, by Alpha Sebastian's command, you're coming with us."

My heart sank. "Where are you taking me?"

"Roxanne went into premature labor from the shock. We've been ordered to induce yours. You'll deliver at the same time," one stated.

In an instant, my blood ran cold, and my limbs turned numb. Even my breath caught in my chest.

They were going to force my pup out!

"No!"

My scream tore through the night. I clutched the steering wheel as I curled over to protect my belly. "He's not ready! Forcing him out will kill him!"

But their expressions didn't so much as flicker. Without warning, hands clamped around my arms.

I fought with everything I had. My nails dug into the wheel, almost piercing it, and my wrists burned with pain from their grip.

Unfortunately, I was no match for their strength. I could do nothing as they dragged me out of the car.

Suddenly, the dull ache in my abdomen flared into a piercing pain. I shut my eyes in despair, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, Sebastian waited anxiously outside Roxanne's delivery room.

He didn't know how much time had passed before the cry of a newborn broke out from within.

Moments later, a healer stepped out with a smile and pulled down his mask. "Congratulations, Alpha Sebastian! The mother and child are both safe."

A relieved smile spread across Sebastian's face. He then turned to the warrior at his side, ordering, "Bring Luna Olivia's pup. It's time for the exchange."

But the warrior's expression darkened with unease. He hesitated, afraid to speak.

"What is it?" Sebastian demanded, his brow furrowing.

Right then, his Beta came sprinting down the hall. He gasped for breath before stammering, "A-Alpha Sebastian, Luna Olivia bled heavily from the induction. S-She didn't make it!"

Sebastian's smile faltered instantly, and all the color drained from his face.

Another five years had passed. By now, the Temple of the Moon's reputation among various packs had reached an unprecedented height. Over the years, I had delivered countless oracles from the Moon Goddess, guiding the packs away from disasters that could have wiped them out. My name had become a symbol of wisdom and power. Noah, on the other hand, had grown from a pup who needed my protection into a calm, intelligent pre-teen. He had inherited my formidable soul energy. He could hear the voices of all living things and even see fleeting glimpses of the future during meditation. The Temple elders said that in a few years, Noah might become the youngest Chief Oracle in history. Occasionally, news of the Crescent Moon Pack reached me. I heard that after losing his powers, Sebastian had also been stripped of his Alpha status. The pack had quickly elected a new Alpha. At first, a few loyal pack members tried to support Sebastian. But as they watched him drift through his days in a

Under the guidance of the elders from the Temple of the Moon, the purification ritual took place by the Moonlit Spring at the heart of the pack's land. Sebastian kept his word. When the dagger pierced his chest, he didn't so much as flinch. Crimson blood dripped into the clear spring, spreading quickly.I watched with cold detachment as his power was stripped away, draining color from his face. His tall frame wavered. It was as if even standing had become too great a burden. The pack members surrounding us gasped. The elders who had opposed Sebastian's decision looked on with mixed emotions, while the mothers whose pups had been healed wept with gratitude. When Sebastian collapsed from the pain, something inside me faltered, but calm quickly settled back in. He had suffered to atone for his sins. Once the plague had been eradicated, the pack erupted in cheers, welcoming a fresh start.…That night, I went alone to the hillside and stood before the tombstone that read, "I

Sebastian led the way, guiding me to a quiet room that had long been prepared. As soon as the door closed, shutting us off from the world outside, he could no longer maintain his Alpha's authority. At such close range, my scent was unmistakable. He almost knew for certain that beneath the veil was the woman he had longed for over the past five years. "Olivia, is that you?" Sebastian asked, his voice trembling. He stepped forward to grab me but froze abruptly. Pain and regret brimmed in his eyes as he said, "It really is you! You're alive! I've missed you so much!"His words tumbled out as he began to apologize, trying to explain everything that had happened five years ago. "I'm sorry, Olivia. I was wrong. Back then, all I wanted was to save Roxanne. I never meant to hurt you. I assumed you'd understand because you were so kind. I never imagined things would turn out this way. "Not a single day has passed in these five years without regret. When you left, our mate bond was s

And so, I agreed to the Crescent Moon Pack's request. Donovan looked at me with concern. "Chief Oracle, are you certain you want to go?""I'll go. But they must agree to two conditions," I replied. My voice betrayed no hesitation. In the face of the innocent pups' lives, my personal grudges were irrelevant. Five years had passed, and I was no longer Olivia, the woman who had lived only for love and hatred. I went on, "First, I will only communicate with the Moon Goddess and deliver her guidance. How the pack acts on it is their decision. "Second, no one may see my face."…Three days later, the private plane of the Temple landed on the Crescent Moon Pack's airstrip. The door opened, and I stepped down slowly, holding Noah's hand. I wore the white robes of the Chief Oracle, while my face was hidden behind a veil. The pack's elders were already waiting. When they saw me, their gazes were filled with reverence and devotion. Flanked by the elders, I stepped into the co

Five years later, in the Temple of the Moon, I guided Noah through his daily soul energy training in the enchanted forest behind the hill. "Mommy, I heard the willow tree singing. It said it loved today's sunlight. And among the highest branches, a little bluebird is sleeping," Noah said with his eyes closed, a trace of pride in his voice.I opened my eyes, smiling as I stroked his head. "Your senses are sharp. Remember this feeling. This is how you speak to all living things, and how you hear the Moon Goddess's whispers."Five years had been enough to change me completely. I was no longer the Luna who had humbled herself for love. Under the protection of the Temple's magical wards, the blood magic curse that had plagued me was cleansed. My soul energy had not only fully recovered but grown stronger than ever. Over the years, I had occasionally taken requests from other packs. I consulted the Moon Goddess to provide guidance, helping them avoid disasters and cure plagues. Eve

As I slowly opened my heavy eyelids, it felt as if I were surfacing from the depths of the ocean. The last thing I remembered was the harsh, white light of the delivery room and the pain that tore me apart. Now, I found myself in a strange, spotless room. The air carried a faint herbal scent, and soft moonlight fell over me. It was calm and serene. I tried to move. However, my body was so weak that even lifting an arm felt like a struggle. Instinctively, I touched my stomach. It was flat once more. The heavy weight I had carried for nearly ten months was gone. My pup was no longer inside me. "You're awake."A gentle voice reached me, and I realized it was Donovan, the elder of the Temple of the Moon. At that moment, he was approaching my bedside with a steaming bowl of herbs. "My pup…" I rasped, struggling to speak. Donovan helped me sit up and placed the bowl in my hands. "Don't worry. He's safe. Drink this. It'll help you recover."The warm liquid slid down my throat
