Chapter 3

Auteur: Welcome Wealth
I finally understood why Diana had been so determined to leave those bloody scratches on me and why they had retreated so quickly once I reached the cafe. It turned out that they already had a contingency plan in place. Diana was doing everything in her power to ensure my destruction.

Mom suddenly woke up due to the commotion. She opened the door and saw the handcuffs on my wrists right away, nearly fainting from the shock.

She still moved to stand in front of me to protect me, saying, "You must have made a mistake, officers! Levi has always been an honors student and even has a commendation for bravery! He's incapable of committing a crime!"

Mom reached out to me with trembling hands, tears streaming down her face.

Those police officers remained completely indifferent. "We'll determine whether your son has committed a crime after a full investigation. You can rest assured that we won't wrong the innocent or let the guilty escape."

Having said that, they pushed me along and began leading me toward the stairs.

Mom rushed after us, weeping as she clung to my hand. "You can't take him away! He just finished his exams and is supposed to start training as a pilot in September! He's going to attend Aeronautical Command University and fly planes! Please don't take him away!"

I could feel my eyes welling up with tears the moment I saw Mom drop to her knees and plead before the police officers. I helped her to her feet and said, "You shouldn't do this, Mom. I need you to listen to me—I'm completely innocent.

"I need you to go find Officer Johnson and Mr. Wagner this instant. I know they'll help me out. I also need you to use my scholarship money to hire a lawyer. I'll get through this, Mom."

Mom nodded frantically, her hand stroking my cheek repeatedly as if she couldn't bear to pull away.

I looked at Mom's graying hair and was struck by the agonizing memory of learning about her death while I was behind bars in my past life.

I reached out and pulled her into a hug, saying, "You have to take care of yourself and remember to take your medicine on time. You have to be there to watch me fly one of those planes, Mom."

Mom kept nodding with tears streaming down her face. "I know, Levi. I know you're innocent in all of this. It wasn't you who did it, so don't confess to anything, Levi."

It was then that one of the police officers ordered, "It's time to go!"

I reluctantly parted from Mom, thinking that in this life I had to save both her and me.

I spotted Diana sitting in a chair once I was brought into the police station. I yelled at her, "Why are you framing me? I didn't do anything to you! Get the police to run a kit. There won't be any evidence because I never touched you.

"How can you say I assaulted you? You were the one who ran up and scratched me! What do you want from me? Who's behind this? You'd better tell me this instant!"

Diana gradually stopped crying with Officer Johnson's reassurance. "Kevin has the Miller family behind him, though. He bullied and raped me, and I have no evidence. It's almost impossible to report him, especially given my current reputation.""It'll be fine as long as you go along with our plan."Diana complied with Officer Johnson's strategy once he provided a formal guarantee for her protection. She agreed to work undercover near Kevin, aiming to gather the critical evidence needed to convict the Millers. She intended to strip Kevin of his backing and, in doing so, reveal the full extent of his guilt. She staged a heated confrontation with me prior to her departure, in accordance with Officer Johnson's instructions. She also inflicted several bruises on herself to simulate a physical altercation, creating the illusion that we were at odds before she went back to fulfill her task.It was the following day, and the video alleging I had pushed someone to suicide was trending again.

That night, an unexpected visitor showed up at my house—Diana, who had been released on bail. The Millers had paid a fortune for a lawyer to secure Kevin's release, and Diana had been granted bail as well. She fell to her knees at my entrance, sobbing hysterically. "Please have some mercy on me, Levi! Do you plan to drive me to death with these slanders? I'll kill myself right here if you refuse to withdraw the case!"In the meantime, the neighbors all stepped outside to see the commotion, chiming in with various pieces of advice."Why are you taking it out on the young woman?""How heartless of you to push such a young woman to the brink like this!""What's the point of all this hatred? You should both just compromise and call it even!"They moved to help Diana up while acting as if they were doing a good deed. I recalled my past life when I was detained—those people hadn't spoken like that back then. They expected me to show leniency, yet none of them had offered to share the w

I deliberately established a predictable pattern by visiting the local market for sales every afternoon, ensuring my pursuers could map out my movements. It took three days, but I was finally knocked out by a sedative on my way back home from the market.Kevin stared at me, visibly stunned. "How did someone like you manage to get the police involved? It doesn't make any sense! How could you have known about my plan ahead of time?"I immediately corrected him. "Do you not know that the police exist to protect the public? You can't commit a crime without leaving a trace. You ought to remember that I have a photographic memory; I saw your license plate when you fled that day. There is enough evidence for the police to take you in now."I might be poor, but at least I don't engage in criminal activity. You might have plenty of money, but you engage in immoral conduct. That puts me way above you, Kevin!"Diana and Kevin looked defeated as they were taken into custody.…I thought ever

I had spent my time identifying the person behind the setup following my release from custody. I had also designated Officer Johnson for my emergency speed dial. I then put a real-time tracking app on Mom's phone, allowing her to monitor my real-time location. If I ever failed to answer her calls, she could use my coordinates to report it to the police. I had been staying at home to minimize any risks, avoiding social outings entirely. It wasn't until one day when several members of the school team—people I was barely on speaking terms with—unexpectedly contacted me with an invitation to hang out.I had a bad feeling, but I still went anyway. I had just reached the venue when they claimed that surviving my troubles was a sign of future blessings, all while they constantly tried to get me to drink.I refused the drinks, explaining that I wasn't a drinker, which made them seem offended."Do you regard us as beneath you now? Do we not belong to the same team? You ought to know that

I should have figured out earlier that Kevin was the only one with the means to get my ID and my phone.Kevin's father, Chase Miller, sponsored the school's basketball program, which allowed Kevin—only a bench player—to establish himself as team captain. He had taken possession of my phone and ID before; he claimed the phone was to prevent distractions during the season, and the ID was used for tournament registration and lodging. His father also held a stake in the largest hotel franchise in the city."What do you think you're doing, Kevin?"Kevin flashed me a treacherous grin and replied, "You want to know what I'm doing this, huh? You see, I'm setting you up with a woman and gifting you a little HPV infection while I'm at it. "You complained about a lack of evidence the previous time the police apprehended you, so I'm going to make sure the evidence this time is undeniable."I looked at him in confusion and asked, "Why are you doing this to me?"Kevin looked down at me, tap

I knew that forging a hotel record would require my ID and also an inside man at the front desk of the hotel. I had no memory of ever chatting with Diana, so I wondered where these messages came from. I was completely muddled by the whole situation while the police officers kept pressing me for answers.I shrugged, my hands out, and said, "I won't sign anything or answer any questions until my lawyer gets here.""You'd better start talking, Levi Sullivan! You ought to know that we've found out that your father was involved with the criminal underworld—"I bolted upright, my eyes bloodshot and my body trembling all over from rage. "You'd better shut your mouth this instant! You have no right to speak about my father!"It was then that Mom rushed in with a lawyer, accompanied by Martin Wagner, my teacher, and David Johnson, Dad's colleague.Officer Johnson served with Dad, who died in the line of duty while working as an undercover operative. He was the most knowledgeable person r
