Chapter 3

Author: Wedding Seven
In that instant, a wave of shocked murmurs swept through the crowd, followed by an immediate outcry.

"W-What? Did Zoe actually hire someone to stand in for her at her own wedding?"

"Holy! Has Zoe lost her mind? She is basically dragging the Sorenson family's reputation through the dirt!"

Cassie and Jeremy's faces drained of all color following the public exposure.

Mom was absolutely livid. She pointed a finger directly at Cassie and bellowed, "You Sutherlands truly have some nerve! Zoe is truly despicable!

"How dare you treat my son's wedding—the most important event of his life—like a game! You've all gone too far! Did you think the Sorenson family would just sit back and take this?"

Dad, his eyes bloodshot with rage, hurried onto the stage and stood protectively in front of me. He then addressed the Sutherland family in a freezing tone, saying, "Waylon and Zoe's wedding is off! There will be no further ties between the Sorenson and Sutherland families from today onward!"

Upon seeing that the alliance was on the brink of collapse, Jeremy grew anxious. "Zoe was just being immature and messing around, Waylon. I'll have her come back here immediately to apologize to you!"

I scoffed and said, "I'll give her another chance, then. If you can get her on the phone this instant, I'll let it all slide."

I leaned in as I noticed Maisie's hand tightening around mine and whispered, "You can rest assured that Zoe isn't going to show up."

Jeremy, as if clinging to his last hope, took out his phone and repeatedly dialed Zoe's number, only to keep hearing the same cold automated voice. "I'm sorry, but the person you're trying to reach is unavailable."

I spoke in a deliberately aggrieved tone, saying, "It seems like Ms. Sutherland has no intention of returning."

I then turned to the security and said, "Please escort these irrelevant people out."

Cassie and Jeremy were forcibly escorted out by security, while numerous reporters excitedly shoved their cameras right up to their faces.

Dad gripped my hand firmly without demanding an explanation. "Your mother and I will stand behind you, regardless of your choices, Waylon."

Mom, on the other hand, firmly patted my shoulder—a gesture that warmed my heart so much that I almost broke down right then and there.

I then noticed a comment in the comment section.

"In the original story, Waylon's insistence on marrying Zoe led to a fallout with his parents. Zoe eventually drove the Sorenson family into bankruptcy, causing his parents to age decades in one night and commit suicide by jumping from a building. Their current situation just makes me want to burst into tears."

I lowered my gaze, masking the emotions in my eyes. I decided to show them no mercy since they showed no goodwill at first. I immediately called my assistant once the wedding ceremony was over. "I need you to end all cooperation with the Sutherland family this instant and withdraw every bit of capital we invested."

In the end, the news that I changed brides at the wedding and married Maisie didn't circulate immediately. It seemed like the Sutherland family had moved quickly to contain the news and stabilize their share price.

I rushed to register the marriage with Maisie once the wedding ceremony was over, and once it was done, Maisie mentioned that she had to leave the country for a few days to handle some affairs.

Zoe, on the other hand, was completely unaware of what had happened.

She had enjoyed two leisurely days with Jaiden at a villa on the outskirts of the city before belatedly sensing that something was off; after all, at this point, I would have already thrown a fit and dragged her back, yet now there was no movement at all.

She mindlessly swiped through her phone, not reacting even when Jaiden called out to her. She sneered and tossed her phone aside, saying, "I don't buy it. Waylon is definitely playing hard to get."

Jaiden asked tentatively, "Is it possible that Waylon is truly upset this time, Zoe? You should probably head back and smooth things over. I'd hate for you to ruin your relationship with the Sorenson family because of me."

Zoe pinched Jaiden's chin, looking utterly condescending. "You want me to go make it up to him? He's hopelessly in love with me, so he can't possibly live without me, especially after being together for more than two decades.

"He'll come crawling back to me within three days, giving me money and begging me to marry him. He's clearly too spoiled."

It was then that the comment section popped up. "I'm laughing so hard right now. Is the female lead really that dumb? I mean, she doesn't even realize that the Sorenson family has withdrawn all their capital. Sutherland Group is about to go down in flames!"

"Oh, my God! Your entire family is falling apart, yet you're still acting so smug!"

In the end, Zoe was sentenced to three years in prison for her mid-street assault on a pregnant woman.Maisie secured the building with an astonishingly high bid that no one could match on the day Sutherland Group's assets went up for auction. She presented the deed to me as a gift, saying, "I'd like to give this to you—this will serve as the new Sorenson Group headquarters in the future."I looked at her and pulled her close by the waist with a smile. "You're quite the high roller, Ms. Shepherd. You're really not afraid of me blowing through your fortune, huh?"Maisie leaned into my embrace and said earnestly, "All that I own belongs to you—my life included."…It was several months later, and Maisie gave birth to a healthy baby boy—and on the occasion of his one-month celebration, the Sorenson and Shepherd families hosted a magnificent banquet. Dad formally announced that he was handing over full authority of Sorenson Group to me during the banquet.Maisie, on the other hand,

Zoe collapsed to her knees, sobbing as she begged for my forgiveness. "I was out of my mind back then. I should never have listened to Jaiden—that prick—or humiliated you at the wedding. I hope you'll forgive me, Waylon."I'm all yours if you can get the Sorenson family to reinvest and save Sutherland Group, and also save my mother. I'll cut all ties with Jaiden. I'll even marry you and spend the rest of my life making up to you. I'll do whatever you say, Waylon!"Upon seeing her groveling like this, completely stripped of her pride, I felt absolutely nothing. I just found the entire situation utterly absurd. There were some who commented in the comment section."In the novel, the female lead was different; she was cold-blooded when the supporting male lead begged for mercy.""Zoe is such a hypocrite. She's all for being ruthless until she's the one on the losing end."I felt a dull ache spreading through my chest as I saw that. I then stated deliberately, "It's already too late,

Zoe's complexion went dark with rage. She directed a murderous stare at me, looking as though she wanted to tear me apart, limb from limb.I remained indifferent and whispered in her ear, "You'd better not forget that your company still owes Sorenson Group a billion dollars in bridge loans, Zoe. It's due this coming Monday, so make sure to settle it then."I ignored her crumbling expression and turned away with poise, taking Maisie's hand as we walked out.I later found out from the comment section that Zoe and Jaiden had forced their way through the wedding ceremony, though the atmosphere remained incredibly awkward.Zoe dragged Jaiden off to meet his so-called influential aunt, Katie Hall, in Stonecreek right after the wedding ceremony ended, only to find out that this so-called aunt was nothing more than a petty gangster running a small loan-sharking business.Katie glanced at the disheveled Zoe, sizing her up. She then blew out a puff of smoke and said nonchalantly, "I have no

Zoe, faced with the sea of cameras and the gossiping guests, found herself backed into a corner. She knew that she would become the laughingstock of Stonecreek if this wedding turned into another disaster, with no possibility of ever making a comeback. She merely gritted her teeth and stared at Jaiden with a conflicted expression.Jaiden acted as if she hadn't noticed her expression at all. He held Zoe around the waist with a blissful smile and addressed the crowd. "Thank you all for attending Zoe and my wedding today. You might be wondering why I'm the groom today instead of Waylon."He teared up and, with a heavy touch of melodrama, put his hand over Zoe's flat stomach and continued, "It's because Zoe is pregnant with my child, and for the sake of the unborn child and our relationship, Waylon graciously chose to step back."Zoe whipped her head toward Jaiden, her eyes brimming with shock and suspicion."Zoe is stunned yet again! She honestly manages to make me laugh every singl

I picked out a black, perfectly tailored suit that looked both sharp and formal for the wedding ceremony. In accordance with the comments in the comment section, Jaiden's supposedly "rich aunt" was actually a loan shark with ties to the criminal underworld. I simply thought that this wedding was bound to turn into a complete disaster.Maisie wore a coordinating evening gown and took my arm as we headed to the venue together.Upon arriving, the wedding scene was already crowded with guests, with camera flashes flickering nonstop.Zoe stood at the end of the red carpet in a white wedding gown, wearing a confident smile. She froze for a moment after spotting me, though she regained her poise almost instantly. Those in the comment section burst out laughing."Zoe actually believes the supporting male lead dressed up like this just to be petty with her.""Does she really think the supporting male lead will still give in to her? I'm dying to see what happens next; the way the plot i

In that instant, everyone in the comment section went wild."Your so-called husband is no longer in the picture, Zoe!""It seems like the female lead recognized the big shot as the stand-in she had previously hired. It is such a satisfying reversal! Is the story moving toward the female lead chasing after her childhood sweetheart now?"Zoe's expression shifted as soon as she recognized Maisie. "Do you really take me for a fool, Waylon?"She then pointed at Maisie and continued, "Isn't this the stand-in I paid 100 thousand dollars for? Didn't you get enough of the act at the wedding? How could you drag her here to act out this 'loving married couple' routine?"Jaiden covered his mouth in mock surprise, though his eyes were brimming with contempt. "How could you do this, Waylon? Zoe is already stressed to the limit with Sutherland Group! You're not only not helping her, but you also hired someone to put on a show just to rile her up! You're being so inconsiderate!"He then turned t
