Chapter 5

ผู้เขียน: Cutie Kitty
I pushed the thought aside and waved Martin off. "I already told you I lost my memory. I have no idea what herbal remedy you're talking about. And you're not helpless. It's just a headache.

"Order some painkillers and have them delivered."

Martin flinched, then frowned. "Willow, you can be mad at me, but this is going too far. You know I've had these headaches for years. You spent six months trying to convince that herbalist to give you the recipe before she finally agreed.

"If you're still upset about what happened at the office, I'll say it one last time. There's nothing going on between Evelyn and me. I'm only trying to make up for the seven years she lost because of you.

"If I'd really loved her, I would've married her seven years ago. You never would've had a chance."

The way Martin tried to make it all sound perfectly reasonable was almost laughable. I really must have been blind to waste seven years of my life on a man who didn't even love me.

If I'd put half as much effort into my career as I had into taking care of him, I could've made something of myself years ago.

"Are you done? I have things to do."

My indifference seemed to get under his skin. He abruptly sat up on the couch.

"You're really not going to do anything for me? Willow, you've never been like this. In seven years, you never once said no to me. But lately, you keep pulling away and fighting me on everything. What do you want this time?"

I almost laughed. "I've already told you. I want a divorce."

I went to the bedroom and started packing up Martin's things. I was only halfway done when a loud crash came from the kitchen.

When I went to check, I found Martin sitting on the floor, clutching one badly scalded hand.

Apparently, he'd been too proud to ask me for help, so he'd tried to make the herbal remedy himself and ended up burning himself instead.

According to my friends, Martin hadn't lifted a finger around the house since we got married. I'd always taken care of everything for him.

But instead of doing something about his hand, he just sat there staring at me.

I frowned and walked toward him.

A smug smile spread across his face. "I knew you still cared about—"

I walked right past him. "Move! You left the burner on. Are you trying to burn my house down?"

Once I turned it off, I breathed a sigh of relief and went straight back to the bedroom to finish packing.

Martin's face flushed with anger, but I ignored him. I grabbed his bags and hauled them toward the door. That was when he finally realized what I was doing.

He stared at me in surprise. "Why did you pack my stuff?"

I couldn't believe he even had to ask. "Obviously, I'm putting it outside. I'm kicking you out."

"You're kicking me out?"

Martin froze. Then something seemed to click, and a mocking smile spread across his face.

"So this is your new game, Willow? I'll admit, you almost had me fooled for a second. But you forgot one thing."

He pointed at the ring on my finger. It was a simple diamond ring with our initials engraved on the band.

So this must have been our wedding ring. I'd probably worn it for so long that I'd stopped even noticing it was there.

"If you really want a divorce, then why are you still wearing—"

Before Martin could finish, I pulled off the ring and tossed it outside with the rest of his things. His expression changed instantly, and he opened his mouth to say something.

Just then, Evelyn walked in and caught the whole thing.

Of course, she wasn't about to let an opportunity like that go to waste. Her eyes immediately filled with tears.

"Willow, I knew it. You're jealous of me."

Was she insane? Jealous of her?

I had better things to do than make myself miserable over the two of them.

Martin's smile only widened. "What am I trying to do? Isn't it obvious? I'm trying to win you back."He leaned closer, and I caught the faint scent of his cologne."Willow, you changed yourself for me once. Now it's my turn to change for you."Everyone around us fell silent. They stared at Martin in disbelief, their jaws practically dropping. This was Martin Gentry, the notoriously cold and intimidating CEO no one could ever get close to. Countless women had tried and failed, yet here he was, openly admitting that he wanted me back.It was almost impossible to believe.Everyone turned to me, waiting to see how I'd react. But I barely felt anything. If anything, I almost found the whole thing funny. The damage was already done. Even if Martin changed now, what difference would it make?"Martin, you don't have to do this. We're over. Just leave the past where it belongs."Martin didn't answer. He just kept drinking. Before long, he was so drunk he could barely stay on his feet.

I looked at Martin and spoke slowly and clearly. "I'm doing just fine the way I am."But Martin refused to believe me. "No! Willow, that's not true! You don't remember anything, so how can you possibly know if you're okay? You're only saying this because you're angry!"He clutched my hand, growing more desperate by the second. "You can't give up on treatment. You have to get your memories back!"The Ferris wheel slowly carried us back down until our cabin reached the ground.I pulled my hand free and looked at him calmly. "Martin, not remembering is exactly what made me realize how miserable I've been all these years. I'm not going back to that."With that, I turned and walked away.Behind me, Martin sobbed like his heart was breaking, but I didn't look back.Later, Martin and I met with our lawyers and signed an agreement that settled everything between us once and for all.The whole process was surprisingly calm. There were no arguments and no endless back-and-forth. It felt

Martin spent the rest of the day taking me around the city. We watched a movie, grabbed something to eat, went to an amusement park, and rode the Ferris wheel. It almost felt like a real date.As the Ferris wheel carried us higher, Martin gazed out over the city. "Willow, do you remember? Our first date was just like this."Then he turned to me. "Do you remember any of it?"There was something wistful in his eyes, along with a flicker of hope.I looked at him and told him the truth. "No."Since the surgery, most of those seven years had been a blank. There was so much I couldn't remember, and our first date was one of those things.Martin froze. That clearly wasn't the answer he'd been expecting."You don't remember? You're still mad at me, aren't you?"He seemed convinced I was only saying it to hurt him. His eyes reddened again."Willow, I know I was wrong. I-I'm sorry. I ignored you, and I failed you as a husband. But I know that now. Just give me one more chance, okay? Le

I agreed.Martin didn't say anything else. He simply turned and walked away, looking a little dejected.I watched him go and found myself wondering if he still had feelings for me.I shook my head.No way. If he really cared about me, he wouldn't have ignored me for seven years. He wouldn't have shut himself away in that monastery when I needed him most.Either way, the damage was done. Whatever had once existed between us was over.I didn't give it another thought. I left the house I'd once called home and went straight to Joan.Joan's family was in investment, so she had plenty of money and connections. The moment she heard what had happened, she offered to back me if I wanted to start my own company."Willow, you should've done this years ago! Why keep letting that opportunistic bastard take advantage of you? And don't worry about the money. If there's one thing I'm not short on, it's cash."Whatever you want to do, just say the word. I've got you!"Joan looked ready to go

Martin sounded exhausted, but I could still hear the hope in his voice. He really thought that if he gave me even the slightest opening, I'd come running back. In his mind, I was still the same Willow who had never been able to say no to him.Too bad he was wrong.Just then, the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find a realtor in a suit standing there with a young couple behind him."Ms. Quade? I'm with Wexton Realty. You contacted us about selling the house."I nodded and stepped aside. "Come in."Martin went white. He spun around and stared at me. "Wh-what are you doing?"His voice came out sharp with disbelief.I met his stare, my voice perfectly calm. "Exactly what it looks like. I'm selling the house."Martin staggered, nearly losing his balance. "Selling the house? A-are you insane? This is our home! You can't just sell it!"Watching him completely lose it almost made me laugh."Our home? Since when? My parents left this house to me. It was perfectly fine until you r

Martin's eyes widened. His lips trembled, and his face went pale, then livid. When he spoke, his voice came out high and sharp with disbelief. "You're seriously asking me for rent?"I shrugged. "What else? Did you think we were just playing house?"Martin's head snapped up, his eyes bloodshot. "When did you find out?"He sounded furious, as if I were the one who had betrayed him.I gave a mocking laugh. "Does it matter? Why do you care when I found out? Was I supposed to pretend I didn't know and wait until you and Evelyn actually crossed the line?"A sharp slap cracked through the room.Martin had hit me with all his strength. My cheek burned.Evelyn looked like she was about to laugh, but she quickly covered it with a look of concern and stepped forward."Willow, calm down. Martin only said that because he was angry. Don't take it to heart. You two have been married for seven years. Whatever's wrong, can't you just talk it out? Does it really have to come to this?"She reac
