Chapter 2

작가: Liora Z
That night, Manhattan's most luxurious hotel was brightly lit.

It was hosting an exclusive mafia charity gala named "Aria Valeriano."

All of New York's elite were in the ballroom, praising Don Cassian's devotion to his wife.

But me, the star of the gala, stood alone in the shadows of the second-floor hallway.

I was looking for him to say I wasn't feeling well.

But I stopped outside the half-open oak door of his private study.

Inside, I heard the hushed chuckles of his capos.

"Don Cassian, little Nico is already five. When do you plan to bring the mother and son back to New York?"

My breath hitched.

Then, I heard Cassian's voice. The man who never even raised his voice at me now spoke with a lazy certainty.

"Not yet," he said lightly. "Aria is weak. She can't handle that kind of shock."

A capo chuckled. "You hide them too well. The whole syndicate thinks you'd die for your wife."

Cassian gave a low laugh.

"She trusts me," he said with an arrogant edge. "She would never in her wildest dreams think I have someone else. As long as I keep my mouth shut, she'll live in this perfect fairy tale forever."

My heart recoiled.

This was his proudest leverage. My absolute trust was his free pass.

"Cassian..."

Another woman's voice rang out.

Bianca. Her voice was soft and wronged, as if she were the victim.

"Maybe I shouldn't have come to New York. I don't want to hurt Aria. It's just... Nico misses his daddy."

Through the crack in the door, I saw a scene I would never forget.

Cassian sat on the sofa. He naturally reached out, pulled Bianca into his lap, and kissed the top of her head.

"Don't overthink." His voice was gentle. "I keep my promises to you."

"But..."

"No buts." Cassian cut her off. Calm, but unquestionable. "Next month, I'm flying to Sicily. I'll give you a proper wedding. You waited for me in silence for five years and gave me Nico. I owe you this."

He was giving her a wedding.

When we got married, it was the middle of a gang war. We hastily exchanged rings in a church. He promised me the wedding of the century once everything settled.

And now, he was giving it to my best friend.

"And what about the Donna?" the capo asked cautiously.

Cassian leaned back, idly playing with a cigar.

"There's no conflict."

He mapped out the lives of two women with a cold, rational tone.

"Aria is the Donna. She keeps the ring, the title, and the power. No one can threaten her position."

He said it with so much audacity.

"But," he shifted his gaze to Bianca, "my passion, my wedding, my true self... they belong to Bianca."

He was like a merciful king handing out favors.

"There are twelve months in a year. I'll take one month for Sicily, for Bianca and Nico. For the other eleven months, I won't leave Aria's side."

Cassian stroked Bianca's cheek.

"As long as I don't speak, and you don't speak, she gets eleven months of a perfect husband, and you get my real heart. Aria will never find out."

The mood in the study was light.

Outside, I was drowning in ice.

He thought his lies were a favor to me. He figured playing the good husband for eleven months entitled him to cheat for one.

Music drifted up from the ballroom. They were cheering for "Aria."

I numbly left the gala and went back to our penthouse.

Traces of his "love" were everywhere.

My face was completely numb. I walked into the closet and pulled out a massive black trash bag.

The diamond necklace he won for me at last week's auction. In the trash.

The sexy lingerie he handpicked. In the trash.

Every single "gift" he brought back from his "praying" trips to Sicily. All in the trash.

I was stripping every piece of him out of my life.

Just as I picked up the last music box, Cassian came home.

He actually dropped to his knees."Aria, I was wrong." He looked up. Tears washed over his sunken cheeks."I was played! Aria, that kid wasn't mine. Nico is a bastard!" He cried out. His voice was wrecked with regret. "I dealt with Bianca. I took everything and threw her in a Brooklyn whorehouse. She'll spend the rest of her life paying for her sins in hell."He reached out, shaking. He tried to touch my skirt, but stopped mid-air."Come back to New York with me? Let's start over." He begged. "I'll give you the whole family. My money, my life, it's all yours. Just look at me again, Aria, please."I looked down at him.Watched him cry. Watched him break. But sadly, I didn't even feel the thrill of revenge.Too late.Everything he offered meant absolutely nothing to me now.I looked him dead in the eye.I raised my hand. I slowly unbuttoned the top two buttons of my shirt. The fabric parted. It revealed the hideous, dark red scar over my heart.A jagged, ugly slash across my heart.Cassi

Cassian’s POVRight before dawn. Marco rushed in with a sealed folder. His hands were shaking so hard he couldn't tear it open."Read it." I stared at him. Zero emotion in my voice."It's a negative." Marco's voice broke. "Don. Nico... isn't your kid. He doesn't even have Italian blood. He's the bastard of some grunt from the Lucchese family!"Time stopped.I sat on the couch, frozen.Five years. For five whole years. For this fake heir. I carved out my life for a bitch and a bastard. To protect this fake bloodline, I left my only wife in the dark. Tortured for five years.Bianca collapsed on the floor. Her torn dress soaked in her tears. She looked up at me, lips quivering."Cassian. I can explain... I...""Explain?" I suddenly laughed. It sounded alien to me. Sickening. Like something crawling out of hell."Explain what? How you used a rival grunt's bastard to play me for five years?""No, Cassian, please, listen to me...""Because of your lies," I walked toward her. My boots crunche

Cassian’s POV"Call everyone in." I got back to the penthouse. My voice was completely raw.My Capos and guards didn't waste a second. Within half an hour, my top men packed the room."Track Aria's flights. Her hotels. Her cards." I threw my soaked suit jacket on the floor. "I want to know her country. Her city. What bed she's sleeping in right now.""Yes, Don."Marco, my intel boss, already had his laptop open. Fingers flying across the keys.I sat on the couch. I stared at that cold coffee. I didn't dare move.Half an hour later.Marco looked up. Pale as a ghost."Don. We can't find her.""What do you mean you can't find her?!" I flipped the coffee table. Glass shattered across the floor."She used a fake ID." Marco was trembling. "All her bank cards were deactivated at 2:50 PM. Ten minutes before boarding. Phone wiped. That Reykjavik ticket was a decoy! Or she used a top-tier black-market passport. Nothing in Iceland matches her!"She planned everything. It wasn't an impulse. It was

She just walked away."No." I snarled.I shoved the doctor aside. I stumbled out of the clinic. The sunlight blinded me. I threw myself into the driver's seat.I pulled out my phone. My hands shook too much to grip the wheel.I dialed the number I knew by heart."Sorry, the number you have dialed is out of service."The robotic voice echoed in the car.Out of service. She canceled it.She cut all ties.I smashed my phone against the passenger seat. I sped back to the penthouse. Our home."Aria!" I roared her name.Nothing.I ran into the master bedroom. I threw open the closet doors.Empty.Her custom dresses were gone. Her jewelry, gone. Even her precious design sketches in the study. She went through it alone."Thud.The velvet box slipped from my fingers. The priceless pigeon-blood ruby ring rolled away. Right into the white roses.Dead silence fell over the lawn."Cassian, what's wrong?" Bianca walked over. She frantically hiked up her couture wedding dress. She reached out to grab my arm.Her hand reeked of heavy gardenia perfume. The second it touched me, I lost it."Get the fuck off me!"I shoved her hard. She stumbled and hit the dirt.Mud instantly ruined the expensive white silk."Shut your mouth!"Five years of playing the gentle lover. Gone. Not a single mobster or guest in the crowd dared to step forward.I pressed the phone to my ear. I saw red."Where is she?! Put Evans on the phone!""She's gone. Cassian never even glanced at the paper. To him, I was just a pet who would never leave. After signing, he grabbed his phone. His finger slipped. An unread voice memo blasted through the quiet penthouse. "Daddy! Hurry up! Mommy put on her white dress. We're waiting to take wedding pictures!" The crisp voice of a five-year-old boy echoed in the air.Cassian's hand jerked. But in a split second, he locked the screen and looked at me with helpless amusement. "That's Nico. The old butler's grandson. Little troublemaker calls everyone that."A flawless lie. He didn't skip a beat. "I gotta go. Big mess at the docks. Be a good girl and wait for me." He hurried out the door.Day three. 9:00 AM. I sat in Dr. Evans's secret clinic. In front of me was the Consent for Termination of High-Risk Pregnancy."Aria, are you absolutely sure?" Evans handed me a pen. "Once you sign this, there is no turning back."I was about to take the pen when my phone buzzed. A text from Bianca.[Aria, last ni
