Chapter 4

작가: Liora Z
Cassian's voice dripped with a devotion that could fool anyone.

I looked at him quietly.

Paris.

Three years ago in the fall, Bianca spent a whole week in Paris, spamming photos. One was taken in the rain on the Champs-élysées. The camera didn't catch the man's face, only an arm holding a black umbrella over her.

At that exact time, I had asked to go to Paris.

But Cassian gave me a pained look and pulled me into a hug.

"Aria, there's a syndicate war in Europe right now. Your safety means more to me than my own life. Next time, I'll take you."

He still hasn't taken me.

Turns out he wasn't busy; he was simply taking his mistress on vacation.

His "protection" was just a flawless excuse. The endless "next times" were lies.

Once it all clicked, the dull ache vanished. Only cold peace remained.

I let go of his wrist.

"Okay," I said softly. "Go handle it. Be safe."

Cassian let out a breath of relief.

"Good girl. Get some sleep."

He turned and strode out the door.

The penthouse fell dead silent.

I stood up, dragged the trash bag back out, and swept everything inside.

Finally, my eyes landed on a small velvet box on the nightstand.

Inside lay a blood-red prayer rosary.

When I was in my coma, he supposedly knelt in a Sicilian church, trading his bleeding knees for this very rosary.

I used to treat it like a talisman, thinking it carried his divine protection.

But in reality, it was just a dirty prop to cover up his affair.

Without hesitation, I tossed it straight into the bag.

Next morning, 7:00 AM.

The lock clicked. Cassian was back.

The heavy gardenia smell punched my nose. He looked tired, but his eyes carried the lazy satisfaction of a man who'd spent the whole night getting off.

He walked into the closet, then froze.

Half the wardrobe was empty.

"Aria?" He walked out. "Why did you clear out your clothes?"

He didn't suspect a thing. To him, I was a foolish woman wrapped around his finger.

"They're out of season. I'm donating them." I sat at the marble island, drinking black coffee.

Cassian smiled fondly. "You're always so sweet."

He stepped up to kiss my forehead, but his phone rang. A FaceTime from Bianca.

Cassian didn't hang up. He walked out to the balcony, not even bothering to close the glass door.

He was so damn sure I would never eavesdrop on his "family business."

The breeze brought Bianca's whiny voice inside.

"Cassian, the wedding dress arrived." On the screen, she was wearing a pristine couture gown. "But the waist is too tight."

Cassian leaned against the railing and chuckled.

His fatigue vanished. "That's what you get for eating all those desserts last night."

"Should I have them let it out a bit?"

"No need." Cassian's voice dropped, pure lust lacing his words. "Wear it in bed for me tonight. I'll peel it off you myself."

The call ended.

Cassian pushed the door open, his lust-filled smile instantly switching back to the mild warmth of a perfect husband.

"Sorry, some trouble over in Europe." He straightened his collar.

I set down my coffee cup.

Calmly, I slid a document across the counter. It was tucked inside the family's quarterly financial report.

It was the divorce papers I had my lawyer draft overnight.

Cassian didn't even look. He assumed it was a routine authorization and signed it.

His head was filled with Bianca waiting in a wedding dress tonight.

He checked his watch and ruffled my hair.

"Aria, I'll give you anything you want. Once this blows over, we're going to Paris."

He actually dropped to his knees."Aria, I was wrong." He looked up. Tears washed over his sunken cheeks."I was played! Aria, that kid wasn't mine. Nico is a bastard!" He cried out. His voice was wrecked with regret. "I dealt with Bianca. I took everything and threw her in a Brooklyn whorehouse. She'll spend the rest of her life paying for her sins in hell."He reached out, shaking. He tried to touch my skirt, but stopped mid-air."Come back to New York with me? Let's start over." He begged. "I'll give you the whole family. My money, my life, it's all yours. Just look at me again, Aria, please."I looked down at him.Watched him cry. Watched him break. But sadly, I didn't even feel the thrill of revenge.Too late.Everything he offered meant absolutely nothing to me now.I looked him dead in the eye.I raised my hand. I slowly unbuttoned the top two buttons of my shirt. The fabric parted. It revealed the hideous, dark red scar over my heart.A jagged, ugly slash across my heart.Cassi

Cassian’s POVRight before dawn. Marco rushed in with a sealed folder. His hands were shaking so hard he couldn't tear it open."Read it." I stared at him. Zero emotion in my voice."It's a negative." Marco's voice broke. "Don. Nico... isn't your kid. He doesn't even have Italian blood. He's the bastard of some grunt from the Lucchese family!"Time stopped.I sat on the couch, frozen.Five years. For five whole years. For this fake heir. I carved out my life for a bitch and a bastard. To protect this fake bloodline, I left my only wife in the dark. Tortured for five years.Bianca collapsed on the floor. Her torn dress soaked in her tears. She looked up at me, lips quivering."Cassian. I can explain... I...""Explain?" I suddenly laughed. It sounded alien to me. Sickening. Like something crawling out of hell."Explain what? How you used a rival grunt's bastard to play me for five years?""No, Cassian, please, listen to me...""Because of your lies," I walked toward her. My boots crunche

Cassian’s POV"Call everyone in." I got back to the penthouse. My voice was completely raw.My Capos and guards didn't waste a second. Within half an hour, my top men packed the room."Track Aria's flights. Her hotels. Her cards." I threw my soaked suit jacket on the floor. "I want to know her country. Her city. What bed she's sleeping in right now.""Yes, Don."Marco, my intel boss, already had his laptop open. Fingers flying across the keys.I sat on the couch. I stared at that cold coffee. I didn't dare move.Half an hour later.Marco looked up. Pale as a ghost."Don. We can't find her.""What do you mean you can't find her?!" I flipped the coffee table. Glass shattered across the floor."She used a fake ID." Marco was trembling. "All her bank cards were deactivated at 2:50 PM. Ten minutes before boarding. Phone wiped. That Reykjavik ticket was a decoy! Or she used a top-tier black-market passport. Nothing in Iceland matches her!"She planned everything. It wasn't an impulse. It was

She canceled it.She cut all ties.I smashed my phone against the passenger seat. I sped back to the penthouse. Our home."Aria!" I roared her name.Nothing.I ran into the master bedroom. I threw open the closet doors.Empty.Her custom dresses were gone. Her jewelry, gone. Even her precious design sketches in the study. Right into the white roses.Dead silence fell over the lawn."Cassian, what's wrong?" Bianca walked over. The second it touched me, I lost it."Get the fuck off me!"I shoved her hard. She stumbled and hit the dirt.Mud instantly ruined the expensive white silk."Shut your mouth!"Five years of playing the gentle lover. Cassian never even glanced at the paper. To him, I was just a pet who would never leave. After signing, he grabbed his phone. His finger slipped. An unread voice memo blasted through the quiet penthouse. "Daddy! Hurry up! Mommy put on her white dress. We're waiting to take wedding pictures!" The crisp voice of a five-year-old boy echoed in the air.Cassian's hand jerked. But in a split second, he locked the screen and looked at me with helpless amusement. "That's Nico. The old butler's grandson. Little troublemaker calls everyone that."A flawless lie. He didn't skip a beat. "I gotta go. Big mess at the docks. Be a good girl and wait for me." He hurried out the door.Day three. 9:00 AM. I sat in Dr. Evans's secret clinic. In front of me was the Consent for Termination of High-Risk Pregnancy."Aria, are you absolutely sure?" Evans handed me a pen. "Once you sign this, there is no turning back."I was about to take the pen when my phone buzzed. A text from Bianca.[Aria, last ni
