Chapter 3

Penulis: Little Chara
There were still two pills in the box, but one of them was a vitamin I had slipped in the night before.

Clayton came to me and said sincerely, “Don’t worry, Wendy. You’ll never have to take another regret pill for the rest of your life.”

I looked into his eyes and smiled with a nod.

“Alright.”

In the days that followed, Clayton treated me well. Even when Sophie called him, he no longer rushed off like he once did.

Then, one ordinary morning, Sophie ran into my room. She dropped to her knees, started crying, and said she was pregnant with Clayton’s child.

Clayton was in the kitchen cooking for me. When he heard her words, the spatula slipped from his hand and hit the floor.

“When did I ever touch you, you—”

Sophie’s sobs grew louder. “It was that night… You had too much to drink… and then…”

She clung to my pants while still kneeling on the floor.

“Wendy, please don’t make me get rid of the baby. Just think of it as keeping a pet. Think of it as a puppy or a kitten. Please?”

I stayed silent, and her crying became more desperate.

“You and I are the same. We both grew up without parents. You should understand where I’m coming from. If you agree, I’ll serve you for the rest of my life!”

She cried so miserably that every word was filled with pain. Clayton’s face filled with pity as he stepped forward to help her up.

I said nothing and called for the family doctor. After the examination, the timing matched what Sophie had claimed.

When the doctor left, Clayton stood there with guilt written across his face. He fumbled for words and failed.

I broke the silence.

“If the child is yours, then let her keep it. However, you’ve betrayed me again.”

I thought I could stay calm, but the tremor in my voice betrayed me.

Clayton looked guilty and ashamed.

“Wendy, I know this is my fault. The child is mine, and I can’t just walk away. You’re also aware that even after all these years, you still haven’t gotten pregnant. I was wrong, but you should bear some responsibility too. Tell me how I can make it up to you.”

Inside, I sneered.

“Don’t you think it’s too late for that? If you truly want to make it up to me, bring me the pill.”

Clayton clenched his jaw and swore with all his heart.

“Wendy, I swear this is the last time. If it ever happens again, may I be left penniless and reduced to nothing.”

He had no idea that he was out of chances.

I held the last regret pill in my hand, though I did not take it in front of him.

When he left for the office, I was so overwhelmed that I nearly collapsed. I clutched the pill tightly in my hand.

At last! At long last, I was free!

For years, the system had bound me. I had never been able to move more than 1.5 miles away from him.

Every effort I made only turned into luck for him, and that was why Clayton’s career kept climbing.

Through heat and frost, I waited outside his office every day. At home, I never stepped past the door.

He never worried about my whereabouts because he was certain that I would always be there every time he turned around.

I left the Jordan villa.

I would never see Clayton again.

I was surprised. Even with his injuries, he still had houses and farmland back home. If he had rested, he could have lived a modest life for years.I did not know the truth until Sophie was arrested. I went to visit her in prison. Her hair was messy, and her face was worn. She no longer looked like the woman she once was.“Did you kill Clayton?” She looked up with a bitter smile. “Yes. I confessed.”“But he was no longer a threat. After his death, you could have inherited millions. Why throw your

“It’s been a while, Wendy.” Clayton stepped out of the shadows. He was thinner. His eyes were sharp and cold as he stood beside the bed.His fingers brushed across my cheek like the tongue of a snake. “Why must you be so defiant, Wendy? You left me no choice. “Everything you have should have been mine. How dare you walk away?”I turned my head in disgust, but he forced me to face him again. He was wearing a twisted smile. “Once you carry my child, you’ll never leave me again.”Then, he clawed at my clothes. I did not resist and just laughed.“Officers, you heard all of that, didn’t you?”The door flew open. Police officers rushed in and threw Clayton to the floor before he could move. His eyes widened with rage. “Wendy! How could you be so cruel? Do you want to send your own husband to prison? “You never used to be like this. You’re vicious!”I stood, fixed my clothes, and smiled. “In the past, I was bound by those cursed rules and forced to play the obedient wif

When Clayton saw me, the fruit knife slipped from his hand and hit the floor. The cruel look on his face disappeared. Panic and worry filled his eyes. “Wendy?! Why are you here? Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”I looked at him coldly. “Well, Clayton. I always thought you were spineless. I never expected you to also be this vicious.”He snorted. “She’s the one causing trouble. She deserves it! “Wendy, come back to me. If you do, I’ll throw her and her baby out this instant. Only your child can inherit Jordan Corp.”I had always known how heartless Clayton was. Hearing him admit it out loud made Sophie drop her act. She wiped her tears away and sneered. “Clayton, do you really think she wants you? The moment she got the divorce agreement, she couldn’t wait to sign—”Smack! Clayton struck her across the face so hard she spat out blood. Then he turned to me. He grabbed at me, started crying and swearing, and begged me not to leave. To me, his words were nothing but e

Sophie’s face darkened. “Why should I believe you? And how can I make Clayton sign?”I glanced at her belly. “It might be hard for someone else, but I’m sure you’ll manage in your own way.”Before leaving, Sophie said, “Wendy, remember what you promised. Once the divorce agreement is signed, you can’t bother Clayton again.”…Three days later, one of Sophie’s friends came to my studio with the signed divorce agreement. There were wine stains on the page, but Clayton’s signature and fingerprint were clear. Her friend raised her chin proudly. “Sophie worked hard for this. You’d better sign it. I need a copy.”I raised an eyebrow. She was cautious, but it was not necessary.I signed and made a copy. Only then did Sophie’s friend leave satisfied. As I looked at the papers in my hands, I smiled genuinely for the first time since I came into this world. “Thank your friend for me.”Everything was finally settled. By the system’s rules, Clayton and I were no longer tied

I took the chance to send the divorce agreement to Jordan Corp. As I expected, Clayton tore them to pieces. He stormed into my studio and shouted like a madman. “You promised me forever, Wendy! How could you go back on your word?”I quickly retorted, “And you promised you’d only love me. But that didn’t stop you from having a child behind my back.”I watched his bluster weaken and spoke coldly. “Clayton, stop pretending to be the victim. Sign the divorce agreement. We end here.”His eyes widened as he looked around the studio. “I will never agree to this. Wendy, don’t forget that Jordan Corp influences the entirety of the business world. Walking away from me will bring you nothing but loss.”He was trying to threaten me. But I wanted to see how long Jordan Corp could last without me.I met him in a restaurant. Back then, he was not a big boss. Like me, he was just a waiter. When a few rich drunks tried to harass me, he stepped in without hesitation. They beat him until h
