Chapter 4

Author: Windy Wendy
Frank's eyes turned cold. "I don't understand why you keep trying to blame her for every goddamn thing that has gone wrong in your life. Even if she did upload it to the internet... so what? It's not an AI fake, is it? It really happened."

What? What was that?

When he rescued me, he had wrapped me in his arms and sobbed in agony. He had led his men in a charge against his nemesis' stronghold like a man possessed and slaughtered every last one of them in a blind rage.

Then he came back to my bedside, drenched in blood and staggering from exhaustion. He had taken my hand with such incredible care and whispered, "No one will ever know about this, so don't worry, okay?"

And now everyone knew, yet his response was simply, "Whatever. It happened."

I laughed, grabbed a wooden stake lying nearby, and drove it into Virginia's shoulder. Blood welled from her revolting body, staining her dress and the hickeys on her neck crimson.

She collapsed to the floor and shrieked like a banshee. "Frankie! Frankieeee!"

I stood over her and glared down with undisguised contempt. "You've done it, bitch. You pissed off the wrong person."

A powerful force jerked me away from her before slamming my hand onto the table.

I looked up and saw fury boiling in Frank's eyes.

The last time he had looked this enraged was after my stepmother stole the Capra family's fortune following my father's death. She had locked me inside the house and whipped me with a salt-coated lash. By the time Frank finally reached me, my body was covered in injuries.

The fury in his eyes back then had burned like an inferno. It had seemed capable of reducing everyone who had hurt me to ashes.

But now, that same fury was no longer aimed at my enemies. It was aimed at me.

Frank pulled out a switchblade and drove it through my right hand, pinning it to the table.

Blood gushed from my palm. Agony exploded through me, racing across my body like a disease. Every cell screamed in torment, but I clenched my jaw and refused to make a sound.

"You're right. You've done it. You pissed off the wrong person," he growled coldly. "If you don't want to end up like your mother, I suggest you keep a leash on your temper."

I glared at him through bloodshot eyes.

My mother had finally snapped after enduring my stepmother's endless provocations and slapped her. As punishment, my father had crushed her hand with a mallet, destroying the nerves and ensuring she would never paint again.

When Frank heard about it, he had held my hand with heartbreaking tenderness and vowed, "I'll protect you, Freya, so just focus on your art!"

I had believed him. I had given him everything.

In return, he buried a knife in the hand I painted with.

Cold sweat soaked my skin. My body trembled uncontrollably despite my desperate effort to endure the pain.

"Kill me right now, Frank, or one day I'll kill you!" I screamed through gritted teeth.

He didn't even react to the threat. "The wedding is delayed indefinitely. We'll talk about it after you've learned to live with Vivi in harmony."

With that, he turned his back on me as though I no longer existed. He scooped Virginia into his arms even though the allergic reaction had already begun to spread across his fingers.

He loved her so much that not even his condition could stop him.

Frank carried Virginia out of the studio. I gritted my teeth, yanked the switchblade out of my palm, and rushed to the hospital.

Thankfully, I had gotten there in time to save my hand.

It was my wedding day.

I stepped out of the dressing room wearing my bridal gown.

Frank moved into my path with a deep frown.

"I told you the wedding was delayed indefinitely. What do you think you're doing? It's canceled!" he demanded. "Apologize to Vivi, or our marriage will stay on hold forever."

"Wake up, Frank. You're not the groom," I shot back.

He reached for my hand, but I slipped aside, caught his wrist, and twisted it behind his back instead.

"But don't worry about missing out," I said. "I've prepared a very special gift just for you."

He followed my gaze, and his eyes widened.

I panicked and stared at the two people sitting across from me: Frank and Virginia.Virginia looked even worse than I did. Fear had drenched her forehead with sweat, and a strip of tape covered her mouth. All she could manage were muffled cries for help.Frank looked at me calmly.\"So, you're up." His voice was gentle. It reminded me of the countless early mornings we had shared. He glanced out the window. "Hey. It's the setting sun. You always said you wanted to watch the sunset from a Ferris wheel. Do you remember that?"I was surprised he did. It had been a childhood dream of mine, and my mother's last painting depicted a Ferris wheel bathed in the glow of the setting sun.He had promised to make that dream come true, but somehow, we had both forgotten about it.Golden rays washed over his face, just as they had when we were children. This time, though, the sunlight revealed nothing but the madness in his eyes. My heart nearly stopped as I realized he had truly gone insane.

Frank carefully retrieved a large box of gemstones from a drawer and looked at me eagerly. "Look! I found the exact gems your mom used for her last painting! You can remake her work now!"I was stunned. For a moment, it felt as though the past and the present had overlapped. It was as if we had gone back to the days when he cherished me.It was revolting. I couldn't help but scoff. How stupid did he think I was? He had managed to hurt me so deeply in just a few days, and now he thought these gemstones were enough to make me forgive him?I took the box and dropped it into the trash can. "Great. Please don't do it again."He stared at me in bewilderment, his mouth hanging open.I turned away to return to work, but he grabbed my arm and pleaded, "I'm sorry! I know I was wrong now! Please forgive me! If it weren't for Virginia's seduction, I wouldn't have done any of the things I did over the past few days! Can't we get back together and start over?"I pried his fingers off my arm.

Alois quickly composed himself and murmured, "I finally got to marry you after all, Freya. I wonder if this will finally bring your memories back..."I frowned in confusion. Why wouldn't I remember? We had been neighbors when we were kids!He teasingly booped my nose. "Remember when you went to your grandmother's house and got lost in the woods? You fell into a pit and panicked so badly that you blacked out. I had to use every ounce of my strength just to pull you out."I carried you on my back for such a long distance. By the time I got you to safety, I was so exhausted that I blacked out too."When I woke up, you were nowhere to be found. I was terrified, so I searched everywhere for you! Imagine how relieved I was when I heard you had made it home safe and sound!"Sadly, you don't seem to remember that I was the one who saved you. I was heartbroken about it for a long time. You even told me back then that you were going to marry me!"I stared at him in silent disbelief.Back

The expression Freya had worn that day resurfaced in his mind, and he realized he had never seen me so utterly devastated. His gaze settled on the damaged landscape painting Freya's mother had left behind. A sharp pang struck him when he noticed a blotch of blood on one corner. Was it his blood or Freya's?

The door to my dressing room swung fully open, revealing Virginia bound, gagged, and crying in the corner. The moment she saw Frank, muffled screams burst from behind the gag.He rushed to her side and untied her. She threw herself into his arms, clinging to his shoulders as she sobbed uncontrollably. "She killed our baby, Frank! It's gone!"Frank whirled toward me, his face twisted with fury and disbelief. "What the fuck?! Are you insane?!"I sneered, "Why does that surprise you? Madness runs in every Capra's veins."The anguish on his face was deeply satisfying. He tried to lunge at me, but my men already had him restrained. He was a capable fighter, but I had brought only my most seasoned muscle to deal with him.He looked so weak, so powerless, and I had all the time in the world to savor the horrified expression on his face.I scoffed. "Did you really think I'd let you walk all over me this many times?"I picked up the same switchblade from my dresser and drove it through h
