**Vivian POV**

The engagement party was three days ago.

Three days, and I still couldn’t get the image of her out of my head. Standing on that stage, microphone in hand, looking like she owned the entire room. Like she owned Adrian. Like she owned everything I’d spent eight years building.

“May you get exactly what you deserve.”

Her words echoed in my skull like a curse.

I stood at the bathroom sink, staring at my reflection. Dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. Skin pale from stress. I looked like I was falling apart, and I was supposed to be the bride. The winner. The woman who got everything.

So why did I feel like I was losing?

“Vivian?” Adrian’s voice called from the bedroom. “Are you coming to bed?”

“In a minute,” I called back, forcing brightness into my voice.

I couldn’t face him right now. Couldn’t look at him without seeing the way he’d stared at her that night. The way his entire body had gone rigid when she walked into the ballroom. The way he’d watched her give

“Then you know I have every reason to hate him,” I said honestly. “But that doesn’t change the fact that we’re offering you superior service at a better price. Your company’s success doesn’t have to be collateral damage in whatever personal drama people want to see here. This is about business, Mr. Hartley. Your business. And whether you want to keep struggling with Moore Enterprises or move forward with partners who’ll actually deliver.”He was quiet for a long moment. Then he stood, extended his hand.“I’ll have my lawyers review the contract. If everything checks out, we’ll make the switch.”I shook his hand, kept my expression professional even as triumph sang through my veins. “You won’t regret this.”“I better not.” But he was smiling. “Adrian’s going to be furious.”“Yes,” I said. “He is.”-----{ADRIAN’S POV}The call came at four in the afternoon.I was in the middle of reviewing quarterly reports when my assistant knocked on my door, face pale.“Mr. Moore, Richard Hartley is

**Serena POV**I stared at the stack of articles Clara had compiled. Twenty-seven lies. Twenty-seven coordinated attacks on my character, my motherhood, my sanity. All orchestrated by Vivian. My hands didn’t shake anymore. They’d stopped shaking around article fifteen, when the cold fury settled in and replaced the hurt. Now they were steady. Deadly steady.“What do you want to do?” Clara asked from across my desk. She had a bandage on her arm from where Vivian’s nails had torn skin. Battle scars.I looked up at her, then at Amelie standing by the door, then at the view of Manhattan spread out behind me. This city had watched me fall. Had watched me crawl away broken and forgotten. Now it was going to watch me burn everything down.“Get me the Hartley file,” I said quietly.Amelie’s eyes widened. “The Hartley Corporation file?”“Yes.”Clara sat up straighter. “Serena, Hartley is Adrian’s biggest client. They’ve been with Moore Enterprises for over a decade.”“I know.” I stood, walked

**Clara POV**I’d been watching Serena break for three days. Not obviously. She was too good at hiding it now, too practiced at keeping her armor intact. But I’d known her for over a decade. I could see the cracks. The way her hands shook when she scrolled through her phone. The way she barely touched her food. The way she’d lock herself in her office for hours, refusing to come out until I physically dragged her.Twenty-seven articles in three days. Twenty-seven different publications, all saying the same vicious things.Unfit mother. Abandoned her child. Mentally unstable. Attention seeker. And Serena, strong, brilliant Serena who’d rebuilt herself from nothing, was starting to believe them.“I need to respond,” she’d said this morning, staring at her laptop with hollow eyes. “I need to tell my side.”“No,” I’d said firmly. “That’s what they want. They want you reactive and desperate. We stay quiet and let this blow over.”But it wasn’t blowing over. It was getting worse.Which mean

“Vivian. Always a pleasure.” I could hear the interest in her voice. She knew I only called when I had something good. “What’s going on?”“It’s about Serena Moore.”A pause. “The ex-wife? That speech was everywhere. My editor wants me to do a follow-up.”“Perfect.” I leaned back in my chair, kept my voice casual. “Because I think people are getting the wrong idea about what really happened in that marriage.”“Oh?” She was hooked. I could tell by the way her tone shifted, sharpened. “What do you mean?”“Well, everyone’s painting her as this tragic heroine, right? The abandoned wife who rebuilt herself. It’s a great story.” I paused for effect. “But it’s not exactly accurate.”“I’m listening.”“Serena left, Jessica. She walked out on her husband and her infant son without looking back. Adrian didn’t push her out. She chose to go.” The lies came easily now. I’d been rehearsing them since last night. “And now she’s back, trying to rewrite history because she regrets her choices.”“That’s

“I don’t know yet.” I paced the room, my mind racing. “But I can’t let her keep winning. Every time she appears, she takes something from me. My reputation. My dignity. The respect I’ve spent years building.” “So what? You want to fight back? Make this messier than it already is?” “I want to protect what’s mine.” I stopped, faced him. “Don’t you?” Something flickered in his eyes. Guilt? Doubt? I couldn’t tell anymore. We’d been together for eight years, and lately I felt like I was looking at a stranger. “Serena is not a threat to us,” he said finally. “She’s bitter and lashing out. But she can’t actually do anything. We have Ethan. We have life. We have everything she lost.” “Do we?” I moved closer, searched his face. “Because the way you looked at her at the party, Adrian, it didn’t look like you had everything. It looked like you wanted something you couldn’t have.” His face shuttered. “That’s ridiculous.” “Is it? You could barely take your eyes off her.” “I was shoc
