Chapter 1

I turned and walked out, and Sean Deaver didn't even bother to follow me.

As Jodie Steele watched me leave, she tugged at Sean's sleeve.

"Do you think Sasha's really mad?" she asked, looking worried. "Maybe you should go talk to her."

"Relax." Sean chuckled. "She can't stay mad at me. Give her two hours, tops. She'll come crawling back on her own."

He didn't seem bothered by what had just happened. Instead, he turned his attention to Jodie.

"Jodie, how do I look in today's outfit? We look like a couple on camera, don't we?"

The hallway lights were harsh and pale, but I imagined my face looked even worse.

I'd put up with this for five years. Getting married had been the last thing I'd been willing to compromise on, and even then, I'd lowered my expectations time and time again.

On camera, Sean played the perfect boyfriend to Jodie.

Jodie was afraid of the dark and thunderstorms, so for the sake of their content, he'd once left me stranded by the roadside in the middle of the night.

It was pouring, yet he hadn't even bothered to leave me an umbrella. He'd simply driven off.

Another time, he'd abandoned me while I was running a high fever with a bad cold, all because he wanted to drive across the entire city to buy Jodie some viral dessert everyone was raving about.

Whenever we argued about things like this, Sean always said the same thing.

"Honestly, Sasha, this is all your fault."

He said it was because I'd missed a frame while editing that Jodie's face had accidentally appeared in the video. Viewers had jumped to conclusions, naturally assuming that Jodie was the girlfriend who'd been by his side for two years.

The account went viral overnight, and the entire internet was gushing over what a perfect couple they made.

"If we clear things up now, our account's traffic will tank," he'd told me.

And as time went on, he became even more unapologetic.

"You never wanted to show your face in the first place. Now that Jodie is appearing on camera in your place, our account has more room to grow. Isn't that a win-win?"

Every word he said made my chest tighten.

The reason I refused to show my face was the scar on it—the one I'd gotten while saving Sean.

Back then, he'd started making videos so I could see him at home even when we couldn't be together. He'd wanted to make me happy. But somewhere along the way, he'd forgotten why he'd started in the first place.

These days, the account's popularity mattered more to him than my happiness.

I was about to hail a cab when someone grabbed my wrist, his grip painfully tight.

I turned, stopping in my tracks the moment I saw Sean. A sliver of hope lingered in my heart, thinking maybe he'd come to apologize.

"Sasha, you're coming back with me," he said, trying to drag me back. "The person handling the editing and special effects got into an accident and can't make it. You're the only one who's good enough to handle it right now."

I wrenched my hand free. "I'm not going."

"It's all for the account." He frowned, trying to persuade me. "Stop throwing a tantrum."

The last shred of hope inside me vanished.

"I'm done with the account," I declared, letting out a bitter laugh.

Sean clicked his tongue, irritation plain in his eyes. "Sasha, can you please stop acting like this? Didn't I already tell you? I'll marry you as soon as filming wraps."

I stared at him, feeling nothing but cold emptiness inside.

"You've been saying that for years." I paused, my voice growing hoarse. "For all these years, I've had to stay hidden behind the scenes. I can't even hold your hand in public when we go on dates."

"Are you seriously jealous of your own best friend?" Sean asked, raking a hand through his hair in frustration. "You know everything between Jodie and me is ed. You're the only one I love."

His impatience was so unmistakable that my breath caught for a moment.

All I'd ever wanted was to be acknowledged openly, without having to hide. Why did something as simple as that feel so impossible to ask for?

I exhaled slowly, trying to keep my voice steady.

"I told you. From now on, I'm done having anything to do with that account."

The police immediately sent officers to investigate, while I was taken inside to give my statement.Once my statement was recorded, they launched an investigation into Sean, Jodie, and the two men involved, using the evidence I'd provided alongside the details from the scene. The CCTV footage confirmed that they'd deliberately cornered and assaulted me.This was no longer a case of spreading malicious rumors online or making threats in private. They had actually resorted to violence. As a result, the nature of the case had changed entirely.Perhaps realizing they were finished, Sean and Jodie began pleading with me. "Sasha, we weren't thinking straight. We made a terrible mistake," they cried. "We shouldn't have threatened you in the heat of the moment. Please, can't you forgive us just this once?""I really am sorry," Jodie choked out, her eyes welling with tears as she lowered her head in a sincere apology.I stood there, watching their performance with indifference. Just

"Tell me, if something happened to you in this blind spot, if you disappeared or ended up unconscious, who would find you?" Sean asked. "As long as something happened to you, all legal proceedings would be put on hold."I stiffened, trying to keep my composure as I watched the four people before me. "Have you really sunk this low just to escape the consequences?""You brought this on yourselves," Jodie replied, grinning. "If you refuse to leave us alone, we have no choice but to protect ourselves."One of the burly men stepped forward. "Don't be so stubborn," he barked. "Sign the settlement agreement and withdraw your lawsuits. It'll make things easier for everyone.""Not a chance," I said firmly. "Misappropriation of property, conspiracy to commit fraud, defamation—I'm not withdrawing a single lawsuit."Sean's eyes turned bloodshot as he reached for my arm. "Then don't blame us for what happens next!"My heart lurched. I immediately turned and ran, but the two men had already

After the evidence exposing Sean and Jodie spread across the internet, their reputations were in tatters. No one online believed a word of their excuses anymore. Their account was throttled and banned by the platforms, and the popularity they'd spent years building crumbled overnight. With their public image beyond repair, they had nowhere left to turn. Desperate and humiliated, they directed all their hatred at me instead. …It was a gloomy evening, with a cool breeze drifting through the air.I had just left the law firm, carrying a folder of case documents. As I turned into a secluded path shaded by trees, two figures suddenly stepped in front of me.It was Sean and Jodie. Both of them had become alarmingly haggard in just a few days. "Sasha," Sean croaked, stepping toward me. "Are you really going to drive us to our end?"My grip tightened around the folder, but my expression remained calm. "I've never forced you into anything," I said. "You brought this on yourselves.

"This time, I'll let you keep my share of the profits," Jodie said. "Just stay out of my business."Sean whipped his head toward her, his face contorting with anger."Stay out of your business?" he ground out. "You helped plan all of this and took your full share of the profits. Now that everything's blown up in your face, you think you can just walk away without a scratch?""I only went along with what you said," she shot back. "I never took the lead on any of it."Jodie lowered her eyes, putting on a wronged expression while making sure the surrounding staff could hear every word. "From beginning to end, I was just dragged into this against my will."Sean trembled with rage as she shamelessly tried to wash her hands of everything. He kicked a stack of cardboard prop boxes beside him. The boxes crashed to the floor, scattering s and decorative ornaments everywhere.A nearby staff member glanced at the damaged props and muttered, "Those custom-made decorations weren't cheap. Look

Sean's mind went blank. "Sean." Jodie leaned closer, confused. "What's wrong?"The moment she glanced at his screen, the color drained from her face."How could this…" she sputtered. "How could all of this have been exposed?"I let out a soft laugh, my gaze cold."Shouldn't you two know better than anyone?" I asked. "I was going to spare you the embarrassment and keep everything under wraps. But since you've shown me no mercy, don't expect me to show you any."I no longer had any feelings for Sean. Perhaps it was when he'd stood by and watched as his fans slapped me without lifting a finger to help, or perhaps I'd stopped loving him long before that. The information I'd just arranged to have released came with a complete set of evidence. There was no room left for Sean and Jodie to deny what they'd done.Jodie stared at the phone, the color slowly draining from her face. She bit her lip, still trying to maintain her usual soft, gentle demeanor."Sasha, do you really have to t
