Chapter 3

Penulis: Lily Fischer
"What's wrong with the housekeeper? Is she seriously spacing out while she's supposed to be working?"

"They're paying her to be there, and she still looks like she doesn't want to do her job. How shameless can she be?"

The moment Sean noticed the cut on my wrist, his expression darkened.

"You're always so clumsy," he hissed. "Go back to your room."

Then he turned toward the camera, his usual warm smile returning as he explained, "I'll take her to get her wound treated. Everyone, please give me a moment."

He grabbed my injured wrist and dragged me all the way to the guest room. Then he tossed the disinfectant on the table without even bothering to look at my wound.

"Get some rest in here. I need to deal with the production crew now."

With that, he stepped outside.

The door locked from outside, as though he were afraid I'd come out and disturb them.

The laughter and chatter from the living room carried clearly through the door as the host spoke.

"Tell us about one of the sweetest little things you've done for each other."

"I'm always cold, so in winter, he warms up the bed for me before I get in," Jodie replied with a chuckle.

"And she remembers everything I like and dislike," Sean said, picking up where she left off.

"Netizens say you two are the textbook example of a loving couple. What do you think about that?”

Jodie lowered her eyes shyly. "We're both so lucky to have found each other."

The crew erupted into cheers.

"Kiss! Kiss! Come on!"

Amid the laughter and commotion, I could tell from the cheers alone that they'd kissed again.

My leg throbbed with a burning pain, but the ache in my heart was a hundred times worse.

That night, I drifted in and out of sleep until morning.

…

The next morning, the door opened from the outside.

Sean came in carrying antiseptic wipes. He crouched down and gently took hold of my injured leg, where the wound was still visible.

"You jealous little thing," he chided, carefully treating my wound. "You're so clumsy that you even hurt yourself over something so trivial."

Smiling, he pulled a ring out of his pocket. "Sasha, just bear with it for a few more days. Once the show is over, everything will be fine."

He slipped the ring onto my left ring finger, then pulled me into a tight embrace. "Just thinking about how I'll be able to marry you soon makes me so excited."

Perhaps just a few days ago, I'd dreamed of this moment countless times. But now, all I felt was a dull ache spreading through my chest.

My throat tightened.

"Sean, do you really love me?" I asked, my voice quivering. "If you do, why are you treating me like this?"

But he didn't seem to hear me. He took my hand and led me straight outside.

"Come on, Sasha. Go try that cake I made."

Only then did I notice that the ring was too big. It hung loosely around the base of my finger, and when he tugged me forward, the ring slipped right off my finger and fell to the floor with a sharp clink.

I instinctively bent down to pick it up, but Sean showed no intention of stopping.

"Take a look," he urged, pointing toward the cake on the dining table. "How does it look?"

He looked so proud of his own work.

"When we film the proposal during the actual show, I'll pull out a cake I made myself and propose to her on camera. It'll make for a great moment."

He opened his phone's photo gallery and held up a picture for me to see.

The diamond ring on the screen sparkled brilliantly. Compared with the plain ring he'd just given me, it was on an entirely different level of elegance and craftsmanship.

"I went to so many jewelry stores before I finally found this one," Sean rambled on, completely oblivious to my pale expression. "Jodie's ring size is really small, and none of the stores had one in stock. I had to pay extra to get the factory to rush the order. Thank goodness it'll arrive in time for the proposal scene with the production crew."

The police immediately sent officers to investigate, while I was taken inside to give my statement.Once my statement was recorded, they launched an investigation into Sean, Jodie, and the two men involved, using the evidence I'd provided alongside the details from the scene. The CCTV footage confirmed that they'd deliberately cornered and assaulted me.This was no longer a case of spreading malicious rumors online or making threats in private. They had actually resorted to violence. As a result, the nature of the case had changed entirely.Perhaps realizing they were finished, Sean and Jodie began pleading with me. "Sasha, we weren't thinking straight. We made a terrible mistake," they cried. "We shouldn't have threatened you in the heat of the moment. Please, can't you forgive us just this once?""I really am sorry," Jodie choked out, her eyes welling with tears as she lowered her head in a sincere apology.I stood there, watching their performance with indifference. Just

"Tell me, if something happened to you in this blind spot, if you disappeared or ended up unconscious, who would find you?" Sean asked. "As long as something happened to you, all legal proceedings would be put on hold."I stiffened, trying to keep my composure as I watched the four people before me. "Have you really sunk this low just to escape the consequences?""You brought this on yourselves," Jodie replied, grinning. "If you refuse to leave us alone, we have no choice but to protect ourselves."One of the burly men stepped forward. "Don't be so stubborn," he barked. "Sign the settlement agreement and withdraw your lawsuits. It'll make things easier for everyone.""Not a chance," I said firmly. "Misappropriation of property, conspiracy to commit fraud, defamation—I'm not withdrawing a single lawsuit."Sean's eyes turned bloodshot as he reached for my arm. "Then don't blame us for what happens next!"My heart lurched. I immediately turned and ran, but the two men had already

After the evidence exposing Sean and Jodie spread across the internet, their reputations were in tatters. No one online believed a word of their excuses anymore. Their account was throttled and banned by the platforms, and the popularity they'd spent years building crumbled overnight. With their public image beyond repair, they had nowhere left to turn. Desperate and humiliated, they directed all their hatred at me instead. …It was a gloomy evening, with a cool breeze drifting through the air.I had just left the law firm, carrying a folder of case documents. As I turned into a secluded path shaded by trees, two figures suddenly stepped in front of me.It was Sean and Jodie. Both of them had become alarmingly haggard in just a few days. "Sasha," Sean croaked, stepping toward me. "Are you really going to drive us to our end?"My grip tightened around the folder, but my expression remained calm. "I've never forced you into anything," I said. "You brought this on yourselves.

"This time, I'll let you keep my share of the profits," Jodie said. "Just stay out of my business."Sean whipped his head toward her, his face contorting with anger."Stay out of your business?" he ground out. "You helped plan all of this and took your full share of the profits. Now that everything's blown up in your face, you think you can just walk away without a scratch?""I only went along with what you said," she shot back. "I never took the lead on any of it."Jodie lowered her eyes, putting on a wronged expression while making sure the surrounding staff could hear every word. "From beginning to end, I was just dragged into this against my will."Sean trembled with rage as she shamelessly tried to wash her hands of everything. He kicked a stack of cardboard prop boxes beside him. The boxes crashed to the floor, scattering s and decorative ornaments everywhere.A nearby staff member glanced at the damaged props and muttered, "Those custom-made decorations weren't cheap. Look

Sean's mind went blank. "Sean." Jodie leaned closer, confused. "What's wrong?"The moment she glanced at his screen, the color drained from her face."How could this…" she sputtered. "How could all of this have been exposed?"I let out a soft laugh, my gaze cold."Shouldn't you two know better than anyone?" I asked. "I was going to spare you the embarrassment and keep everything under wraps. But since you've shown me no mercy, don't expect me to show you any."I no longer had any feelings for Sean. Perhaps it was when he'd stood by and watched as his fans slapped me without lifting a finger to help, or perhaps I'd stopped loving him long before that. The information I'd just arranged to have released came with a complete set of evidence. There was no room left for Sean and Jodie to deny what they'd done.Jodie stared at the phone, the color slowly draining from her face. She bit her lip, still trying to maintain her usual soft, gentle demeanor."Sasha, do you really have to t

"For the rest of my life, I want to be the one who protects you. Will you marry me?"Tears welled up in Jodie's eyes as she nodded. The venue erupted in applause and cheers. Comments flooded the livestream, with viewers showering the couple with blessings.I looked up at them, bitterness surging within me.Jodie and I had once made a promise to each other. No matter which of us was proposed to, the other would be there to witness it.I'd kept my promise and shown up. Ironically, I'd never imagined I'd be standing here, watching my own boyfriend pledge his life to another woman. Before the livestream had even ended,
