Chapter 3

Author: M. June
There were two days left before I was set to leave.

I went through everything I owned, throwing out what I didn't need and packing what I wanted to keep. Once I was done, I realized everything I could take with me fit into just two suitcases.

I was checking my flight when Bryan pushed the door open and walked in. He didn't notice that all my things were gone and came straight over to me.

"The Alliance wants a treatment manual on calming wolves in a frenzy. Pull together all the journals and videos you kept from when I lost control and send them to Hazel's email in a bit. She'll put it all together."

The Alliance had learned that Bryan was the only werewolf known to have recovered from the lasting effects of this kind of frenzy, so they wanted whoever had calmed him to write a manual on it.

"If Hazel's putting it together, whose name goes on it as the author?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Hazel's."

"She wasn't even your assistant back then."

He gave me a flat look. "The manual is about calming wolves who've lost control of their power. Who the author is doesn't matter. Hazel's been by my side for a few years now, so she knows my condition better these days. Besides, she's young, and this would look good on her résumé."

I forced a smile. "And what about me?"

Bryan met my eyes.

"For the past five years, every single time you fell into a frenzy, I was the one by your side."

He frowned, and I could tell he was getting more and more irritated. "Aurora, there's no reason to be petty with Hazel over this. If she puts it together, it takes some of the load off you, doesn't it?"

"I'm not being petty!"

"You said it yourself. That was the past, and you can't keep living in it!"

With that, he poured himself a glass of water. If he'd just looked down, he would've seen our matching mugs lying in the trash. But he was busy with his phone, tapping away at the screen, and his smile kept growing wider.

I let out a soft laugh. "Those are my private journals. I'm not sending them."

Bryan's expression changed instantly. "Hazel's been running around nonstop for this manual, and all she's asking for are those records. Since when did you get so stingy?"

My fingers twitched. "They're not just records. They're about my private life too."

"Aurora, those records aren't yours alone, so why are you trying to take all the credit?"

He thought I was refusing to send them because I wanted the credit. I'd gone countless days and nights without sleep to stay by his side, and I still carried the wounds he'd given me when he lost control in his wolf form. Now he was reducing all of it to me trying to take credit.

"Got it." I nodded. "You're right. That's all in the past now."

Bryan scoffed, turned around, and went straight back to the bedroom.

The next day, I went to the council hall to wrap up the last of my business. Bryan and Hazel were standing in the hall with a few wolves from the Alliance beside them.

One of them asked, "Alpha Bryan, we heard that while you were recovering, you made a moonstone necklace yourself. Is Hazel wearing a similar necklace?"

Bryan looked up and met my eyes. A second later, he looked down at Hazel, his smile soft. "Sorry, that's private."

The others glanced at Hazel with knowing looks.

In the past, Bryan would've taken my hand right away and told everyone that I was his Luna and that the necklace was around my neck. This time, he didn't explain a thing.

That night, I left my appointment letter for the Frostmoon pack healer position and a potion to sever our mate bond on the table. Around the same time, the airline sent me a message confirming my ticket for the flight the next afternoon.

He didn't come home that night, and he never saw the letter.

The video ended abruptly. As soon as it went up, Bryan found himself at the center of a storm. Footage of him and Hazel being far too close got dug up and picked apart online, and he admitted that for the past year, he hadn't even made time for his Luna.Everyone in the pack was stunned. They never imagined their Alpha could be that kind of man, and even the elders asked him what on earth had happened. Bryan didn't explain himself. He just kept his head down and owned up to his mistakes. My lawyer told me, "The Alpha has had every copy of that treatment manual destroyed, and he has fired Hazel. He also said he'd compensate you for all of this."I was in the middle of organizing the latest material I'd written, and after thinking it over, I turned it down. "That won't be necessary."Right after I hung up with my lawyer, Bryan called."Why won't you take the compensation?"My hands paused for a moment. "I don't need compensation after the damage is already done."He was silent fo

Bryan reached out to me. "No! I'm not going back with him.""Then I'll have Hazel come get you."He still refused. "I don't want them. I want you!""Bryan, I was your mate, not your personal attendant! You only flew out here because you got used to me taking care of your every need. You got used to coming home to someone who'd give you a massage."He gritted his teeth. "No! It's because I love you!""If I never felt it, then it was never love."He tried to keep explaining, but tears spilled over before he could get the words out.Cade arrived quickly. I gave him a few instructions and told him to take Bryan away right away.Bryan still wouldn't leave. He tugged carefully at my sleeve, and for a moment, the look in his eyes seemed to overlap with the one from five years ago, just as helpless and broken. "Aurora, please don't give up on me."I looked him calmly in the eye. "Take care of yourself."Once I said that, Cade helped him into the car, and it quickly disappeared. Two

When Bryan found me, I had just finished treating a werewolf who'd come to see me. I pushed the door open, and there he was, standing in the snow with his eyes locked on me."What are you doing here?"He lunged forward and pulled me into his arms. "Aurora, come home with me."I broke free of his hold with all my strength. "I refuse!"Bryan looked hurt, and his eyes had gone red around the rims. "Aurora, stop being difficult. You're my Luna!"I looked him in the eye. "I'm the Frostmoon pack's appointed healer now. And as the Nightfall pack's Alpha, you shouldn't be on Frostmoon territory."Bryan reached for my hand. "Aurora, can I come in? There's something I need to tell you.""If you have something to say, say it here. I still have work to do."I deliberately avoided looking at the disappointment in his eyes."Aurora, I shouldn't have left you behind or let you sit in the corner of that restaurant. And I never should've given Hazel credit for the treatment manual. I've alread

After I got off the plane, I climbed into the car the Frostmoon pack had sent for me. The Frostmoon pack was in the far north, and the moment I left the airport, there was snow as far as the eye could see.My new assistant was the one who came to get me, and she gave me a tour of the Frostmoon pack before taking me to where I'd be staying."Healer Fenwick, if you need anything at all, just let me know. I'm on call for you anytime."I nodded. "Thank you."I unpacked my things, which included all my notes on how to calm wolves in a frenzy. They covered all the cases I'd collected, not just Bryan's.There were no tonics or massage techniques prepared just for him either. I was no longer his personal healer.Meanwhile, something big happened in the Nightfall pack. Because of my lawsuit, every copy of the published treatment manual on calming frenzies had become worthless. In my filing, I stated that all the information and data used in the book belonged to me personally, and that I

Looking out at the clouds past the window, I closed my eyes to rest.Meanwhile, Bryan walked out of the treatment room with Hazel.Once they were in the car, she turned toward him in the driver's seat and spoke softly. "Alpha Bryan, you never even went over to the Luna's table. She must be so hurt.""Yeah, I'll deal with it." He said it offhandedly, then frowned at his phone, which had stayed silent the whole time.Hazel sniffled. "Alpha Bryan, this is all my fault. I shouldn't have sat next to you.""It's not your fault. The staff arranged the seating.""But the Luna should've been the one sitting next to you! I was so focused on your health that I forgot all about it. Let me go apologize to her."Bryan's gaze passed over her gently, without a hint of blame. "Just be more careful next time."It was late at night by the time Bryan got home. Out of habit, he pushed the door open and called out, "Aurora, give me a massage."But the house was silent, and no one answered. He swit

The next day, I finished packing up all my things. A new message popped up on my phone, and it was from Bryan."Are you free at noon?"I took one last look at the place I'd lived for five years, then opened the message. "What's up?"Bryan replied quickly. "I've got some time at noon, so we can grab lunch together. Here's the address."Over the past five years, whenever things went sour between us, he'd go out of his way to cheer me up. Sometimes he took me out somewhere fun, and sometimes he gave me a gift he'd made himself. But that changed over time. He hardly ever looked my way anymore, and he couldn't even squeeze out the time to have a meal with me."Make sure you come. If there's time afterward, we can catch a movie."I tapped on the address and saw it was a newly opened restaurant. My heart had long since frozen over, yet it felt as if something had brushed gently against it. I looked at the potion on the table, the one that would sever our mind-link, and suddenly wanted
