Rex.

I stood outside the dark wood door for a long time. My hand was frozen in the air. I could hear the tiny, fast clicks of the clock downstairs. I could hear the wind brushing the lake outside.

I took a deep breath. I turned the silver handle very slowly, making sure it didn't make a sound.

The bedroom was dark. The big white bed was empty, the sheets perfectly smooth. My heart skipped a beat, a sharp cold fear hitting my chest.

She wasn't here.

Then, I saw the glass door to the balcony

Debbie I lay there, my chest heaving, my legs still trembling and spread wide. I watched him through half-lidded eyes. Rex reached for the hem of his dark shirt. With one swift, powerful motion, he pulled it over his head and tossed it into the dark. The moonlight caught the full glory of his body. His chest was massive, carved out of thick, solid muscle, half dedicated to black inks. His stomach was completely ripped, his veins standing out along his hips. He unbuttoned his trousers, letting them slide down his heavy, muscular legs until he was standing completely bare before me. Fuck. He looked like a god. A wild, ancient warrior built for nothing but strength and power. His hair and those eyes just reminded me of what the days back was like. And thankfully I was here breathing to witness this moment again. And again. And hopefully forever. He walked back to the edge of the bed, his heavy thighs brushing against the frame. I reached out with a trembling hand, my fingers wrappi

Debbie. “What...?” I gasped, breaking the kiss as my head hit the plush pillows. I looked up at him, my chest heaving, my eyes wide with confusion. “How did you do that? How are we upstairs?” “I don't know,” Rex muttered, his voice sounding completely different now. It was deeper, heavier, echoing with a strange energy. “It just happened.” I looked up at his face, and my breath caught in my throat. His eyes were completely off. The bright blue was gone. There were no pupils, no irises—just two pools of solid white light that shone like two miniature moons in the dark room. His thick white hair seemed to be glowing, reflecting the light from the window like real silver. I smiled inwardly. The ancient Alpha wolf was looking right at me through his face. “Rex...” I breathed, a shiver of excitement running down my spine. He didn't answer with words. He leaned down and captured my mouth again, his large body pressing me flat against the mattress. It was my first real touch after a

Debbie. “You heard me,” I whispered. “Take it off.” “Sure... sure,” he muttered quickly, his fingers fumbling with the small elastic band at the back of his head. He pulled it out and tossed it onto the counter. The moment the band was gone, his thick white hair fell loose, cascading down around his broad shoulders and framing his face like a halo of silver. With his hair down, the harsh, cold lines of his face seemed to soften. He looked unbelievably beautiful. “You are a liar,” I whispered, my voice shaking a little as I looked into those blue eyes. “A deceiver. I've been used my whole life, Rex. You don't know what it feels like to know that everything was just a game with me. To feel like people only want me for what's inside me.” Rex opened his mouth to speak, a look of agony crossing his face, but I lifted my finger and pressed it against his warm lips to stop him. “But... with this thread here,” I said, my finger sliding down to point directly at the center of his chest,

Debbie I stormed out of the bedroom, my heart slamming against my ribs like a trapped bird. My chest felt hot. My mind was spinning fast, going over every word Rex had said on that cold stone balcony. I marched down the stairs and walked straight into the dark kitchen. The house was completely quiet. The only light came from the blue moonlight streaming through the large windows, casting long, pale shadows across the clean floor. My hands were shaking so much I could barely hold the glass as I filled it with cold water from the tap. I gulped it down, the freezing liquid hitting my throat, but it did nothing to put out the fire in my stomach. I was boiling. He just walked away just like that. I gripped hard on the edge of the kitchen counter. I told him to leave, and he just did it. Like it was easy. Like he didn't even want to fight for it. But as I stood there in the dark, staring at the empty glass, my mind started to betray me. The anger was like a wall, but a tiny crack was

Rex. "Are you really leaving?" The sharp, angry words cut through the air behind me. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned my head back, completely confused. Debbie had spun around again, her eyes glaring at me with a whole new wave of anger. "You seriously just going to walk away right now?" she snapped, her voice full of bitter disbelief. "You are leaving me alone just because I said so?" I blinked, my brain completely stalling. I stood there, totally lost. Didn't she just say I should leave? "But... you just told me to leave, Debbie. I… I was just trying to give you space." "And that only shows how much you care more about yourself than about me!" she yelled, her voice rising again. "Just take a look at you. The moment I say go, you were practically running away." Before I could even open my mouth to explain that she was getting me all wrong, she stormed past me. Her shoulder clipped my chest hard as she rushed through the glass doors, her feet slamming against the bedroom

Then, I saw the glass door to the balcony was open just a crack. The thin white curtains were blowing in the breeze like ghosts. I walked across the soft rug. I stepped outside onto the cold stone balcony of her room. The night air was freezing, but she didn't seem to care. Debbie was standing right by the iron railing. Her hands were gripping the cold metal so hard her knuckles looked white in the starlight. The wind was lifting her hair, fanning it out around her face. "Debbie," I called out softly. But I sounded almost scared. S
