“Lunch?”
Iris rose her head and met Sergeant Claire, an invisible red line sparked between their eyes both fueled with displeasure. “No thanks,” she muttered and went back to her computer. She was digging her grave at her seat, typing an endless report of the crimes of her own co-gang members.
“Carter will be coming,” a hint of tease circulated on Claire’s words. “I just thought you’d love to come and spend some time with him since he’ll be away with me.”
Iris scoffed in disbelief. “You’re making no sense, Sergeant. Besides,” Iris turned to her, half smirking. “You just passed your own order back to yourself.”
Claire pursed her lips, thinking. “I think I just made it difficult, actually.” She chuckled. “Save her, or else, Max will be stumbling in an awful dump.”
“Hello, Eleanor.” Max stood up as he stretched his hand to offer a handshake. Eleanor, a 17-year-old girl with deep-set blue eyes and a distinctive birth scar that was a shape of a heart under her lip stood there, letting Max’s hand suspended in the air, unentertained.Max slowly took his hand back. “I’m Detective Carter and this is Sergeant Martin,” he said. Eleanor didn’t let out a word and just glanced at them for a second before her eyes darted to the butler.“Is the tea already served?” she asked in a low soft voice, almost sounded like a doll would make, even her tone stained in elegance.“Yes it has been served, and they are actually enjoying it when you arrived.” The butler smiled at her. Claire cleared her throat to get her attention to which she succeeded when Eleanor shot her a look.
The taxi came into a halt in front of the enormous gate. Iris stepped out slowly, crouching to hide herself from anyone’s sight. She sauntered inside the open gates which she found strange, together with the lack of security measures in the area. She got inside with no difficulty.“Shit!” She quickly ducked down and hid on one of the sculptures when she saw someone came out from the front door. She peeked from one side, narrowing her eyes and saw an old man went to the back end of the house. Why is no one else here in this huge ass house? She stayed for awhile there, hiding while craning her neck to see if someone else would come out. She froze when she saw the old man came back looking all rushed, on his hand was a rifle, she hastily went inside the house and Iris grabbed the opportunity to come out and hurried to the door. She did not bothered to stop and admire the gran
Iris went straight to her car after the ambulance that carries Max finally left. Claire followed her right away after confirming that Eleanor and the butler successfully escaped the mansion. The little commotion on a huge ass mansion attracted the ears of the media, that is why when the police arrived, so were a bunch of reporters trying to get a scoop surrounded the area. The sudden crowd gave them the opportunity to escape the crime scene for awhile, as there are still things that they need to explain like the blood stains on the floor and the mess which Iris caused when she threw random things to knock off the gentlemen.“Tell me who,” Iris spoke, not looking at her.“Tell you who?” Claire asked back, facing the front as well. They were watching the officers running from everywhere, checking the vicinity and finding more evidences. It will not be long when the other detectives will arrive and ask them
Iris didn’t know what to feel, aside from the spiteful sight of Claire and Max praising each other and commenting how commendable their teamwork was, Iris remained tedious in front of them. But as her feet dragged her towards her car, and her mind already on the place she was going, she could finally feel some sort of uneasiness. William ordered Claire to be killed, that was the certain part. But the reason why and how much does he knows already, they were the things that Iris need to know.A ring from her cellphone came as soon as she stepped inside the car. The ominous atmosphere circled around when she saw William’s name popped on the screen. Exhaling sharply, she opened the text message.‘Join us for the party.’Iris face darkened, she gripped the steering wheel tight as she starts the engine and drove off from the hospital. The W.E.S.T is a
“Listen, everyone! May I have your attention please?” Police officers together with the Carter, Martin and Anderson gathered up inside the Chief’s office, his loud voice thundered above the mumblings, filling silence in the room. “I want every assigned units to be on their posts an hour before the party starts, alright? The Dales are high profiles, and the best way to catch a rat is through a trap, right? They have given us the opportunity to set our traps in exchange of their security. We can’t mess this up.”The moment William delivered Iris’ mission, she knew it is going to be a bloodbath. That party is a ticking bomb, with lots of eyes glaring at each other while exchanging fake smiles, and hidden guns ready to point at each other’s head when they had the chance.“Do not let anyone know you’re a cop. Don’t be stupid, we had trained all of you fo
What happens when an introvert has to mingle in a party that she doesn’t want to be a part of? When even against her will, she needs to smile, nod, and communicate with strangers? In that moment, at the grandeur of the Dales’ event, Iris thought that staying as a hunter for the Nightcrawlers and torturing people were the moments she would trade everything for just to get out of Eleanor’s eighteenth birthday party. She massaged her forehead and looked up on the night, starless sky. She wondered how happy she would have been if she was staring at the same sky but on her rooftop with a beer on her hand.“You okay?” Max sat by her side, handing her a glass of champagne. His gray suit and hair neatly slicked back stood out from the ocean of black suits, well-trimmed beards and cocky smiles from all the men there. Even if Iris hates to admit, but Max was the closest man to look like a princ
“Detective Anderson, mansion level 2 requesting backup.” Iris breathed deeply. She recognized the man and she knows that he was a Nightcrawler. All the time she was sitting there outside, she almost could not believe that she was not seeing anyone from their gang—because all the while they were actually inside, probably waiting for the Dales to come. She clenchedher jaw as she slammed her back against the wall, hiding herself. “I said mansion level 2, backup now!”And now she can’t even understand why Max was there all alone when there was no undercover agent left at the party. All that she received from the earpiece were static noises as if someone’s blocking their communication. Her eyes roamed around the darkness, finding something that she could use.“Move, now!”“Shit,” she hissed when she heard the man yelled as Max continued to s
Let me tell you about the day I got my firsts.I was ten. My Mom just picked me up from school, waving her hand up in the air with the usual smile she always wore no matter the situation our family was in. And just like yesterday and the other school days before, I ran up to her, my backpack juggling behind me as I held up the first medal I got from a poster contest of our school. On our way home, all I could remember was our laughter. She looked so proud upon knowing I have beaten the daughter of that rude woman who always gave her dirty looks just because she looked younger than most of them—condemning her for getting pregnant at the age of twenty by a man she barely knows, and raising me with a different man. We were new at the neighborhood, and our story spread faster than the light like we were a newfound attraction
