Chapter 4

Author: Madam Fenghuo
Dominic didn’t answer me right away.

He merely cast a look of sheer, utter disbelief in my direction.

I forged ahead. “We established the rules the very night I entered the Cross family—it was a marriage of convenience for both parties. Sign the divorce papers, and we can both walk away from this with some shred of dignity.

“Or are you planning to cheat me out of what’s rightfully mine, too?”

His eyes grew entirely bloodshot, and he opened his mouth to speak.

Elena, practically hanging on by a thread, cut him off weakly. “You really are delusional, Sienna. But then again, you were ready to murder our own mother. There’s nothing you won’t do.”

The slight movement caused her to cough up fresh blood.

Panicked, Dominic scooped her up in his arms, desperate to soothe her. “We’re getting you into surgery right now. Don’t say another word.”

A heavy silence descended upon the grand hall, broken only by my mother’s frantic weeping.

The private doctor arrived at the exact moment my attorney called. I instructed him to mail the finalized divorce agreement directly to the Cross estate.

Overhearing this, my mother sobbed, throwing bitter accusations my way. “Sienna, how did you become this twisted? How could you bring yourself to shoot your own sister?”

“She pulled the trigger herself,” I countered.

My words carried absolutely no weight. My mother lunged forward, gripping my arm tightly.

My father finally barked out:

“If you want a divorce, then get one! You didn’t bring a single cent into the Cross family when you married him. How the hell do you have the audacity to demand half of his empire?!”

My mother chimed in, “You enjoyed eight years of absolute luxury and power as the Donna entirely because of your sister’s sacrifice. Demanding money now is a pathetic, classless move!”

The sheer irony was hysterical. I shot them a cold look and violently shook my mother’s hands off my arm.

Without me, the Cross family would never have built this empire. Demanding half of the assets wasn’t a favor; it was my right.

Before leaving the estate, while Dominic was still waiting outside the private surgical room for Elena, I turned to face my parents one last time.

“To me, you two were nothing more than stepping stones to get me to the top.”

My father erupted in absolute fury, while my mother broke down into hysterical, breathless tears.

I had never felt a shred of genuine affection for them anyway.

If they hadn’t forced me into that substitute marriage, I would still be living in my rundown rental shack, pursuing the things I actually loved.

I would have spent the last eight years living a carefree, peaceful life, instead of looking over my shoulder in constant terror every single day.

For that, I utterly loathed them.

After I walked away from the Cross family estate, the divorce papers were delivered straight to Dominic. Yet, days passed, and he refused to sign them.

While staying at a high-end hotel, a text message from Elena lit up my phone.

Elena was completely unhinged, unleashing a barrage of insults:

“You pathetic bitch! Where do you get the nerve to demand his money?

“If I hadn’t handed it to you on a silver platter, you would never have tasted what it’s like to be the Donna. If you’re going to get lost, do it quietly.

“What’s the matter? Did spending eight years in my seat make you actually believe you’re the mistress of that house? Dominic only took you in because you look like me.

“After what happened tonight, he will never forgive you for shooting me.”

Shortly after, a message from my mother popped up:

“Sienna, no matter how much you hate us, you need to come home. Let’s sit down and handle this divorce like a family.”

Then came Dominic’s text:

“Come back so we can talk. I’m not signing the papers.”

I powered down my phone completely. Their sudden desperation was transparent—they were only panicking because I was about to bleed Dominic’s empire dry.

My attorney advised me, “Since he refuses to sign the papers, our only option now is to file a formal lawsuit.”

“Proceed with it,” I replied, handing my phone over to him. “Go to the Cross estate, and make sure Dominic gets this as well.”

I had already packed my bags. I was completely exhausted, and I desperately needed to disappear for a while to clear my head.

However, the moment I arrived at the airport terminal, my attorney phoned me back.

His voice was laced with sheer panic, his words flying out at a frantic pace. “Ms. Vance, something went terribly wrong!”

I looked up toward the stone crest, only to find a heavily armed military tactical unit ambushing us from behind. They aggressively fanned out across the courtyard, brandishing automatic weapons. The exact second they unleashed a barrage of automatic gunfire, the entire clearing dissolved into absolute chaos.Recognizing the tactical disadvantage, I immediately prepared to fall back. But Dominic threw his body directly in front of mine. “Get down! Sienna!”A dense hail of bullets tore mercilessly through his chest, while Elena was also struck multiple times during the opening volley.Amid the deafening crossfire, I spun around and raised the barrel of my weapon, sending a clean round straight into Elena’s forehead.Only after watching her lifeless body collapse to the dirt did I pivot toward my primary escape route.Dominic remained firmly anchored in front of me, using his dying breaths to shield my retreat and screaming at me to run.I cast one final glance back at him.The

Dominic looked at me in absolute shock, his expression quickly shifting into a surge of desperate relief.Across the clearing, the remaining rival soldati panicked, completely losing their bearings. They violently grabbed Elena as she tried to make a run for it, instantly assuming she had set them up.Terrified, Elena shrieked repeatedly, claiming she didn’t know a thing.I looked at Dominic, my voice entirely flat and dead.“Don’t flatter yourself. I didn’t come here to save your life.”“Sienna…” He tightly clamped his hand over the bleeding wound on his forearm, his eyes fracturing with raw emotion.Ignoring him completely, I turned my cold gaze toward Elena.Elena was shaking violently from head to toe, her voice splintering into pathetic whimpers.“I swear, I didn’t know anything about this!”I looked past her to the trembling enemy combatants. “Your boss is dead. Hand that woman over to me, and I will let the rest of you walk out of this valley alive.”I had fully intend

Before I could slip away from the city, word of Elena’s latest stunt reached me.A few loyal soldati from the family who used to be stationed under my direct command reached out to give me a heads-up.Elena had marched straight into the family’s executive boardroom during a high-level assembly, weeping and wailing about her manufactured tragedies to the capos. She twisted everything—from her theatrical poisoning to the way I had supposedly frozen her out.She went so far as to claim that I was the one who paid the painter to abduct her eight years ago. She spun a sob story about running for her life and enduring endless torture, only to escape back home and find her paranoid sister poisoning her wine out of fear of losing the throne. She reminded everyone that Dominic’s original bride was supposed to be her, framing me as a ruthless social climber who used every dirty trick in the book to steal her life of luxury. She claimed she merely wanted to come home to her family, but I was

Things had reached a point where, no matter how desperately I wanted to avoid him, running was no longer an option.I opened the door to find him looking utterly exhausted, his voice raspy and strained. “I was starting to think you wouldn’t even look at me.”I stared back at him in silence, making no move to invite him inside.“Come back with me, Sienna. I already made Elena pack her bags and leave.”“Whatever happens between you two is none of my business,” I said, eyeing him coldly. “If you’re here today to sign the divorce papers, you can step inside. Otherwise, we have nothing left to talk about.“I’ve already received the wire transfer. Once you sign the line, my attorney will handle the rest of the execution. You won’t have to stress over it.”“Sienna…”He reached out, trying to take my hand, but I smoothly evaded his touch.Dominic’s hand hovered awkwardly in mid-air, a deep shadow falling over his features. “You bled right alongside me to build this family from the grou

My attorney and I had chosen a quiet café to discuss our strategy. When I arrived, he was on the phone, his face carved into a mask of grim severity.Ten minutes later, he hung up, and an immediate smile broke across his face.“Ms. Vance, regarding the lawsuit filed by Dominic Cross, their legal team has completely withdrawn it. Furthermore, the asset partition contract has been signed and executed.“You are officially authorized to liquidate and withdraw half of the Cross family empire. However... regarding the actual divorce, Dominic firmly refuses to grant it.”I could take half his empire, but he wouldn’t let me go.Hearing it back only made me feel a deep sense of mockery. But the fact that Dominic had surrendered half of his life’s work without a bloody war struck me as incredibly suspicious.I didn’t let myself overthink it.“Fine. Initiate the asset wire transfers immediately.”Once the paperwork was finalized, I returned to my hotel room. The high-end suite I had boo

I gripped the handle of my suitcase tightly and stepped to the side of the terminal.“What’s the matter?”My attorney hesitated, his voice tight. “The Don is still refusing to sign your papers, so I haven’t been able to file our partition suit with the court yet. However... the Cross family just filed for divorce first. They are demanding you be left entirely empty-handed, without a single cent of the estate…“You might need to fly back immediately.”I froze. Hearing the words out loud sent a numbing chill straight to my bones.I had bled alongside Dominic to carve out this empire, and now he was trying to swallow my share whole. It was a level of betrayal I had never anticipated from him.Turning right back around, I left the terminal and headed to our designated meeting spot to regroup with my attorney. As I walked past a high-end boutique, I caught sight of Dominic and Elena stepping out of the front doors. They walked side by side. Elena was completely captivated by the di
