Chapter 2

Author: Quinn Woods
Jenna walked over and stood next to my bed, looking slightly panicked. "Tristan, I was really tied up with work yesterday, and taking Finn to the hospital was pretty unexpected. Don't overthink things.

"Besides, it was just a minor surgery. Even the doctors said your life is no longer in danger. You're a man. You should've been able to handle it yourself.

"Stop making a fuss. Once work slows down a little, I'll take maternity leave and keep you company."

Finn picked an apple from the fruit basket, peeled it, and cut it in half. He instinctively held out half the apple to Jenna, and she took it from his hand with her mouth, as if she had done this a hundred times.

Her lips brushed the back of his hand, and his eyes narrowed as he pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek.

Finn turned to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulder, bringing the other half of the apple to my lips.

"Oh, Tristan. Jenna and I have been best friends for years. I'll keep an eye on her for you, so there's no way she'd ever cheat on you. Don't be so paranoid! Why are you even grilling her?"

His overpowering cologne made me gag. I instinctively frowned and shoved his hand away. I began throwing up from the effects of my medication.

The apple juice got into his wound. Hissing in pain, he let go of the apple, sending it rolling to the floor.

I threw up until the world started spinning. By the time I was feeling a little better, I saw her anxiously wiping his hand.

"How could you let that get into your wound? You should get the doctor to dress your wound again. What if it gets infected?"

He casually shook her off. "It's just a little wound. I'm a man. It'd be embarrassing for me to fuss over something like that."

As he spoke, his eyes drifted toward me for a moment, a mocking smile tugging at his lips.

I was rooted to the spot. "Jenna, didn't you say you're allergic to all men? How come you can touch him?"

Jenna frantically let go of Finn's hand and tried to explain herself. "Maybe it's because we've been friends since we were kids, so I never really saw him as a guy. Perhaps I've somehow tricked my brain into seeing him as a woman. That's why I'm not allergic to him."

Was that so? She saw him as a woman?

Was that why she had no problem sleeping with him at a hotel while I lay in the hospital after being stabbed? Was that why she didn't fuss over me, but worried herself sick over the wound on his hand?

We had been married for three years. I thought our lives would finally get better once we had our first baby. I didn't expect things would turn out this way.

I pulled out my phone and texted my lawyer. "Draw up the divorce papers for me."

Meanwhile, Finn glanced at his wound and grimaced. "I need to go to the washroom. I think you should stay here and cheer Tristan up."

Jenna scowled and grabbed his wrist. "And are you going to change your bandage yourself again?

"Haven't you learned your lesson? You still have a scar from last time! Wait here. I'll get a doctor to change your dressing."

With that, Jenna rose on her tiptoes, put her hands on Finn's shoulder, and shoved him onto the couch. Then she hurried out to fetch a doctor.

Finn lounged on the couch. He reached for the magazine she had been going through earlier and flipped through it. He shrugged when he saw me looking at him.

"My bad. I didn't know she was allergic to other men. But relax. We've been fine all these years. She doesn't get a reaction from the things I've touched.

"But you two have been married for three years. Are you saying she won't let you touch a single thing? Oh, you poor thing."

He clicked his tongue.

Finn raised an eyebrow and held up the magazine. "Oh, right. Her male secretary delivered this magazine to her earlier, and she didn't have an allergic reaction.

"She's always shaking hands with those big shots at the office too. Could you be the only one she's allergic to?

"She's gone too far! From the way she's acting, people might think you were disgusting or something.

"I'm going to speak to her about this. How could she do this to her own husband? Every man has his own pride…"

My mind was buzzing, and I couldn't hear a single thing he said after that.

My heart twisted in agony. I tried not to dwell on the past, but the memories kept flooding back, threatening to swallow me whole.

"Fine. Jenna, but you're not going to forget about me after you marry him, right?" Finn had asked. In the video, Jenna snorted. "Of course not. He's disgusting. The thought of me touching him just makes me sick."Jenna was startled. "Tristan, how did you get your hands on that recording? We had that conversation in a wrecked car! No one could've known about it…"A smirk tugged at my lips. "But I'm a Carter, and I'm married to the York Group heiress. There's nothing I can't dig up at this point."Jenna's eyes reddened, and she immediately begged for mercy. "Tristan, I know I messed up. I might have had ulterior motives at first, but for the past three years, my feelings for you have been real. I really love you!"My allergy is real too! I've always been allergic to men's bodily fluids since I was a kid, but it was never this bad. "Perhaps seeing you in the pigpen myself really traumatized me, so I couldn't get over it. That's why my reactions got really severe. "But the doctor

"Since you two are already here, I have a little gift for you. Why don't you spend a few days in jail? Sounds good, doesn't it?" Daniella said with a smile. The moment Jenna saw the police enter the room, she completely lost it. "Daniella, how dare you have me arrested?"You stole my husband and destroyed my company. And now you're packing me off to prison? I'm not going to let this slide! Just you wait! You can't mess with my family like this!"Daniella didn't even look up at her. She simply waved for her people to take Jenna and Finn away. I never thought Daniella would go this far for me. She had spent three years undercover at Cruise Group just to look out for me. Tears welled in my eyes, and she gently wiped one from my cheek with her fingertip before snuggling into my arms. "Don't cry. It's not as bad as you think. Being close made me happy."…Jenna spent only a few days in custody before her family got her out on bail. Even though the Cruises weren't on the same level

Jenna said coldly to Finn, "I said it before. I'll only ever have Tristan's baby. How is this any of your business?" She crumpled the divorce papers into a ball and flung it into a trash can. "Tristan, I'm sure you still love me, don't you? "You're just upset at me, aren't you? I won't agree to the divorce! Don't even think about leaving me!"Finn could no longer take it and desperately tried to drag Jenna away. "Jenna, are you out of your mind? Have some shame!"You two are already divorced! Come on. We need to leave now!"The next moment, Daniella's bodyguard locked the door. Daniella leaned against the door, looking completely at ease. "Do you really think you can just walk into my family's territory and leave whenever you like? "And are you done talking to my fiancé? Mind if I join the conversation now?"Daniella walked over to me and held up a bag triumphantly. "I just got you dessert from Joy Desserts. You always loved this."As I started digging into the dessert, Da

With that, Jenna closed her eyes, as if she had accepted her fate. She grabbed my hand to make me slap her, but I pulled my hand free from her grip and said flatly, "Forget it."Jenna and I had been married for three years. I had barely escaped death, and she still acted like she was being nice by letting me touch her. How absurd.Forget it. I found her revolting at this point. Jenna looked like she wanted to say something, but her assistant burst into the room and said anxiously, "Bad news, Ms. Cruise. York Group just called off their partnership with us. We have a cash-flow crisis!"York Group also just held a press conference. They said any company that works with us will be blacklisted. The moment the news broke, our partners started terminating their contracts with us. We're going bankrupt!"Jenna's eyes widened. "What?"Finn was even more panicked than Jenna. He grabbed the assistant by the collar and snapped, "Explain yourself! What did you mean by that? "Isn't Jenna lo

Today, I finally realized that I was the only one Jenna found repulsive. Whatever explanations she had were just excuses to hide the fact that I disgusted her. Daniella saw me slowing down, so she reached over and felt my forehead with the back of her hand. Once she was certain my fever had subsided, she let out a chuckle. "Stop overthinking. Just focus on your food."Seeing that I didn't have much of an appetite, she immediately took a sip of my soup and frowned. "I knew it. Your soup's gone cold. That's why it doesn't taste as good. You don't have to finish it. I'll get you another bowl."I nodded obediently, just as I had when we first met.Daniella went back to her office to take care of a few things. I was left alone in the hospital room, going over York Group's project proposal. My younger brother, Caleb Carter, was now running the family business. Daniella wanted to give me something to do so I could go back to my old self. She suggested I invest in York Group and work as

By the time I regained consciousness, I realized I had been transferred to a private hospital. Daniella York stood in front of me, dark circles bruising beneath her eyes.I asked hoarsely, "What brings you here? Thank you for helping me."She said softly, "When I received your message, I felt something was off. I decided to track your location and saw that you were in the hospital. I was worried something had happened to you, so I hurried over. I'm glad I got there in time…"As Daniella spoke, her eyes reddened slightly, and she looked visibly distressed. "Tristan, I was so terrified… I thought you were going to leave me again."I forced a smile. My voice came out weak after I had come so close to death. "No way. It's about time I ended things with Jenna."Daniella told me Jenna had gotten so worked up in the bathroom that she slipped and fell. She even lost the baby. Just thinking about Jenna made my heart twist in agony.I had loved her for five years, and we had been married
