Renata folded the last of Santiago’s shirt into the suitcase, while Santiago sat before his work table, his fingers tapping on the keyboard of his laptop.

It was their college annual reunion. Although they had missed two of the reunions before their wedding, this was going to be the first reunion after their wedding, and it was safe to say that it would be centered around their marriage.

“Nina is pregnant,” Renata sighed, but tried to smile.

Santiago froze. His jaw tightened, his eyes darting towards her in shock.

“What?” His voice was heavy and unsteady.

“I found out yesterday…” she flipped the cover of the suitcase and turned to face Santiago.

“But something isn’t right. She didn’t tell me about it on her own. The strip fell out of her purse when she wanted to use the restroom,” Renata said. Her voice was laced with sadness, she had expected that Nina would share the good news with her instead of her finding out like she did.

    Domingo lifted her to his arms. As he was about to leave the room, one of the servants ran in, fear etched across his face.He had heard the noise from outside.“Is she okay?” He asked, trying to take a glimpse of Renata’s face.“Get the doctor,” Domingo said, leaving the room with Renata in his arms.The servant did as he was instructed.
