Chapter Three

Ares's POV

We have been looking for her. My Luna. My sister had me looking for her at the start of last year. I don't know why but she claimed I needed her. I didn't think so. I was going to be just fine as Alpha. Everyone in the pack already feared me as the only hybrid and the most powerful hybrid in the state. Ruling them as Alpha would be even better. My sister didn't give up though. I had just come back from a trip I took to L.A, and I was exhausted. I went straight to my home in Hadley to take the day off. The next day, I arrived at the pack house in Adirondack. I saw the warriors training at the far end of the house and the omegas were moving around doing different tasks. I heaved a sigh. As Alpha, I would make sure there were no omegas, every wolf needed to be treated the same. Both weak and strong. All I had to do was wait for the day of the ceremony.

I parked the car and some of the Omegas came to help with my bags. I gave them a small nod in appreciation. I immediately made my way to the Pack's hospital. I had to see my father. He was dying from wolfsbane. A rare kind, the pack Doctors had said. They were trying everything to save him but I knew and my sister had been dreaming about this day since she was fifteen. We all knew the outcome. By the time I made it to my father's room, I was too late. I saw my sister in the halls of the hospital, crying. She knew this day would come but she still wasn't prepared. I knew what this meant though, I was going to be Alpha in a week. I felt the pressure weigh in on me. I didn't even know when I took off running.

I ran far away from the pack's hospital, shifting immediately I left the border. I just kept running, far far into the trees of Adirondack. I stopped when I came in contact with another Wolf. Compared to my huge black wolf, this wolf was pure white. Just as it sensed my presence, it looked at me and I saw the bluest eyes I had ever seen in all my years of being alive. I stared at her again and that's when I knew. I didn't just smell her, I felt her in every part of my body. My mate. My Luna. I moved closer to her and I could feel my fur burning with the heat eluding from her wolf. "Who are you?" My wolf questioned her. In wolf form I could only communicate with the mind. I kept looking at her, waiting for a reply and instead of giving a reply, she howled, took a step back and started running in the direction she came from.

Before I could stop myself, I ran after her. I knew every corner in the forest of Adirondack, there was no where she could run to. With me right behind her, She ran into a cave and entered through a door. I stopped in my tracks and decided to change to my human form. This was my favorite place in whole forest so I brought clothes and kept them here because I came here occasionally. I went to the back of the water fountain where a bag of my things were and changed to a pair of grey joggers and a black top. I also saw some shoes and I put them on.

She came out of the door too in her human form. She was dressed in hoodie and shorts with a pair of shoes too. Just like her wolf, her hair was white and her eyes were the exact same color, blue like the ocean. As if surprised to still see me there, she jerked back. "You didn't answer my question?". I said, moving closer to her. She took a step backwards. "it's you. From the airport, your scent. it's driving me crazy." She said in the softest voice. It melted my insides.

I took another another step closer to her and she took another one backwards. "That's because you might be my mate." She shook her head in disbelief and as I took another step closer, she moved backwards till she backed herself into the wall of the cave. "How do you know about this cave, who are you?" She said and I kept looking at her. Mostly because I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was strikingly beautiful. "I'm Ares and I grew up in these forests." She furrowed her brows as she took in my response. I could hear her pronounce my name even though she whispered them.

I took a bold step and placed my hands on her cheeks. She flinched but never took her eyes off mine. I could feel her warmth, hear her heartbeat, taste her fear and her nervousness. My hands felt like they were on fire as touching her felt like touching an electric current. She released a deep breath and before I could form a line of thought, she backed away from the wall. "I have to leave Ares, I shouldn't be here". She started walking towards the exit of the cave and I ran to stop her. "You can't leave yet, I don't even know your name". She pulled her herself from my touch like it burned her and shook her head. "You don't need to. We probably won't meet again." With that, she took off running again, this time in her human form. I didn't run after her, I was too stunned. I started making my way back to the pack house. I needed to mourn my father and perform burial rites.

When I got back to the pack house, my sister was no longer in the pack's hospital. She was outside, waiting for me. "Where were you?" She said grabbing my hand and wrapping hers around it. "I was at the cave." She didn't look at me, she kept looking at her our hands. "You weren't alone were you?". This time she looked me in the eye like she was searching for the truth. I looked around and saw some Omegas passing by. "I was alone." I lied to her and took my hands away. She knew the truth and she knew why I lied. Ever since Maya lost her powers as a kid, she had become some kind of psychic. I would say she still had some magic left in her. A witch's magic is never truly lost.

As I made my way to meet with the pack doctors, a pair of blue eyes kept invading my thoughts and I knew that until I had her, I wouldn't be able to get her out of my head.
