Chapter Two

CALI'S POV

I got the window seat in the plane and I was very thankful because looking at the clouds made me at ease. I took a deep breath. I had no idea about what I was going to do when I got to New York. I was alone and now I was a rogue wolf. I placed my headphones on my ears and closed my eyes. Travelling from L.A to New York was five hours and I knew it was going to be a long five hours, so I decided to get some sleep. I was just about to drift off into sleep when my nose caught a scent. I ignored it because being a werewolf, you tend to smell everything at an heightened rate. I opened my eyes and scanned the plane for whoever or whatever I thought I smelled. The person's scent was so strong, my heart began to beat faster. I looked around twice and couldn't trace the person and just like the scent came it was gone.

I fell asleep a few minutes later and after a while, I felt the body of the plane descending. I had slept for five hours. I stretched my body and pulled off my headphones. I got out of the plane, found my luggage and was just about to call an Uber when I caught the same scent from the plane. I looked up and I saw a tall man who looked like he was about my age, he had headphones on and a small frown on his face. He looked confused. I could not really make out his features before he walked passed me and was gone like the wind. He left and the scent followed.

It was him.

I ordered my Uber and forgot the feeling in my chest. The Uber arrived and I put in my stuff. I told the driver the address and he took me home. Home. It had been empty for a long time. Too long. I didn't know what I was going to do. I could get a job and bury myself in it. I also had to control the way I glowed, so I needed to find out my powers. How many things I could burn and how many things I could repair.

I felt a tingle on my neck as the New York breeze blew my white hair to my face. I ran my hands along my scar. It had always been there. The scar. My mum said It was there when she gave birth to me and I thought it had something to do with a human giving birth to a werewolf. From time to time, it tingled but I didn't dwell much on it. As soon as we got to Glen falls, I smiled. I missed home a lot.

I paid the Uber and got my things. I walked to the door and opened it using the house key that I had pulled out of my shoulder bag. My mum's familiar scent lingered and I couldn't help but breathe her in. Everything was just as we left it, covered in white clothes. Today was going to be exhausting.

Three hours after I unpacked and arranged most places around the house, I decided to go grocery shopping. I had left my mum's room exactly the way we left it. I still needed to feel her presence. I locked the doors and pulled my hair out of the bun I put it in when I was about to clear the house. Raising the hood of my hoodie over my head, I started my walk to the grocery store. It was a five minutes walk so I didn't bother to take my mum's mustang. Besides, it probably needed a lot of fixing, it has been in the same spot for eighteen years.

I got to the grocery store, bought some food stuff and junks with the money Alpha Seth had given me as fulfilling his father duties a few days before my birthday. I also bought myself a cake from the bakery just beside the grocery store and I went home. I placed them all in the freezer and cut myself some cake. With my phone on my left hand, I decided to apply to some companies.

Even at twenty one, I had completed both high school and college in L.A and I was proud of myself for achieving that at such a young age. I finished with a honors degree in Computer Science so I searched for application only to technology companies. I was scrolling through the list of technology companies and most of them had no vacant spots. Just as I decided to end the search, my eyes landed on a company. The screen of my phone read "Selkath technologies". The name was odd but it was ranked number three in most successful technology companies in the United States.

The company page didn't state the position that was vacant but I applied anyway. After my job hunting, I left the kitchen island and retired to my room. I brought out my laptop and found many emails from my friend, Amy. Amy was one of the friends I had when I was in the Moon shadow pack. She stayed glued to my side when I lost my Mum and I did the same when she lost her Dad to wolfsbane. She was my closest friend.

The fact that she was communicating through our secret email meant she knew I was banished and Alpha Seth had stopped everyone from reaching out to me. I replied all her emails and assured her I was fine. I didn't tell her I was in New York though. Telling her that piece of information would only put her in trouble with the Alpha. I closed my laptop and was about to sleep when I saw another email. This time it was on my phone. It was from the Selkath company and they wanted me at their office for an interview in two days. I felt a bit of hope and went to bed.

Life was going to be different as a rogue wolf and it was only a matter of time before the other rogue wolves found me. I should not let that happen, so finding a pack as soon as possible was the first priority. With that thought in my head, I drifted off to sleep.
