Chapter 1 Pregnant

"Ms. Michaels, you are pregnant."

When Jean Michaels heard what the doctor said, she felt an inexplicable pain in her heart. Her hands trembled as they held the medical report.

"Can you check again, please?" she asked in a low voice.

The doctor looked at her with an awkward smile. "If you don't trust me, Ms. Michaels, you can get a second opinion from a bigger hospital."

Jean paled when she heard that. "No, it's fine," she said.

She stood up and threw the report into the trash can. Then, she left without a second glance.

Back at Oakside Villa, Jean was greeted by a cold gaze as soon as she entered the living room.

Tyler Larson, who was preparing to leave, stared at her. "Where did you go?" he asked. His gaze unsettled Jean.

Jean took a deep breath. She looked up and met his eyes. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Tyler, let's get divorced."

As soon as she said that, everything fell silent, but it was soon broken by Tyler's laugh. "Are you still having a fever? What nonsense is this?"

As he spoke, he touched her forehead to check her temperature. He was convinced that she was still delirious from her fever.

Jean felt annoyed by his sudden show of affection. She pushed his hand away and looked at him seriously. "I've already drafted the paperwork. Please sign it after you read through it."

She had printed the divorce agreement earlier. She trembled as she handed it to him.

Tyler took the divorce agreement. His smile slowly disappeared as he read through the document. Then, he crumpled it up.

"You won't be able to bear the consequence of divorcing me. Have you thought this through?" He stared at her intently.

Jean nodded firmly and held his gaze. "Yes, I have." Afraid he wouldn't believe her, she added, "I have thought it through."

She didn't look like she was being contrary just for the sake of it.

Tyler's expression turned cold. "You're not the only one who needs to think about things," he said coldly, throwing the crumpled paper at Jean as he strode past her. "You can wait until I've thought it through."

Jean grabbed Tyler's arm when she saw he was about to leave.

She said hurriedly, "I know you don't love me, Tyler. I also know you brought another woman home from abroad, and she's now at Bailey Hospital. Our marriage isn't working. Just let me go. You'll be happier too. Isn't it better that way?"

She looked at Tyler earnestly, trying to convince the stubborn man to consider divorce. Her nervousness caused her palm to become sweaty.

Tyler looked down at her. They had a considerable height difference. He narrowed his eyes. "What else do you know?"

Jean paused. She rarely paid attention to Tyler's personal affairs. She only knew about it because she had overheard his conversation with the butler when she walked past his study.

Tyler continued to stare at her coldly. "Since you don't know anything else, let me tell you. Her return is exactly why I won't divorce you."

Jean was taken aback. Almost instinctively, she asked, "Why?"
