He shook his head as he took another bite of pasta, listening.

“But they were good parents,” I said, stirring my pasta as I thought of them. “One good thing about them being teachers was that they were always home when I got there.”

Logan nodded as his eyebrows pulled together, lost in thought.

“What are you thinking?” I asked as I took a bite of the delicious garlic bread and moaned.

He shrugged. “Nothing. I was just thinking of how lucky you were to have parents who cared enough to be there for you when you needed them.”

I smiled as I shook my head. “Sometimes, they were there a bit too much. Both my mother or my father was at school, and then they were there when I got home, too.” I laughed without humor. “Try getting a date when you’re the daughter of an English teacher. Between us, I wondered if my father secretly threatened them to stay away from me.”
