67 ROSE'S POV "Here we are!" Micah announces as we reach the station. I quickly unfix the seat belt and rush out of the car."Relax." Micah turns around the car and leads into the reception area. "Excuse me." He leaves me here for a while to meet with the officer in another room."Great " I try to sit as calmly as I can to wait for Ryan but the moment I see him walking in, I loose every bit of restraint left and rush toward him, throwing my hands around his neck. "Ryan!""Baby.""What happened? Are you okay?" I try to check every part of his body to ensure he's okay. The officer sneers as he returns Ryan's property to him. "You're a free man until Desmond is sound to decide if he's pressing charges.""Where's Desmond?" I hate how worried I sound. I don't care about him, but maybe I'm just realizing I don't hate him enough to want him dead."The hospital." The way he says the words grudgingly like he wished Desmond was in the mortuary instead.I smiles. He's so sweet. I want to kiss
OSE'S POV"Where did you say Ryan is again?" I ask, looking over my shoulder as we step into the elevator."Uhm... I told you already." He scratch his head for a brief second. "He's at the firm already waiting for us.""But why would he leave so early without waking me?" I shift to the corner for a man to step out. I turn to Micah. "He didn't come to bed last night, Micah.""Yeah... We were working all night." He sounds a bit distracted.I shake my head. I'm just being paranoid. "So, who's this lawyer we're going to meet with?""Our lawyer directed us to him." He answers, adjusting his suit."I have a feeling that Ryan is not okay. And my hutch is never wrong." He laughs but he sounds nervous. "Ryan's fine." He says avoiding my gaze as we step out of the building and into the parking lot."Why isn't his line even connecting, Micah? I'm worried sick. What if he's..." My voice trails off as I enter the front passenger seat. I don't why I have this odd feeling. "Did he have a cardiac ar
RYAN'S POV As I step out of the master's bedroom and round the corner to the living room. I snap again. "Are you serious? You don't know any good murder attorneys?" I ask, pulling out a chair from the barstand and dropping my weight into it.Micah takes one of the empty stools. "Desmond's not working alone, and that's his confidence." He ignores my question and goes off saying something less with his hands clasped together and staring off into space. "There are better ways to handle this." He finally looks in my direction."Better ways like what?" I turn around to stare at him, folding my palms against my chin and feigning concern. After a long beat, we both say it together. "Go to court." He looks serious, but I just chuckle. "Court? How many times have you been to court? How many times have you discussed this with your lawyer?""We've been missing the point this whole time and using the wrong approach." He simply says. "We need a solid plan to take him down. Any ideas while we wait
ROSE'S POV "When did this happen? What documents did he submit? Why didn't I get a call from my lawyer?" I ask a million questions in a row. "He submitted your marriage certificate and a few signed prenuptial agreements." The lady starts counting Desmond's lies. "This was about a day ago, and we're still sorting everything out. I'll give you a call back." She ends the call. I throw the phone again. I take deep breaths. "What has my mom done?" I try to calm my breathing, my eyes dart around the car, and they meet Ryan's staring at me. "Are you okay?" Ryan slides closer to me, wrapping his arm around my trembling body. "What's wrong, baby?" He whispers slowly as his hands smooth my back. "Ma'am, is everything alright?" The chauffeur calls from the driver's seat. His question is followed by a loud round of hooting from behind. It takes me a while to realize we're still not moving and must be the reason for the serious holdback behind. I groan, trying to lift my head from Ryan
ROSE'S POVI step away from Ryan, parting my lips to speak but no words come out so I just let out a low throaty laugh.I wait for him to defend himself but he doesn't matter say anything and his silence is enough admission. I can't believe he has lied to me twice in one night. I shake my head, I wonder what other secrets he is hiding. I don't say anything, yet. I just press my lips and wait for Desmond to get into his car and drive out. When he finally does, I turn to Ryan, shaking my head. "Dad will be so disappointed... he has built his whole life on that firm. Our lives." I say, trying to stay still and not panic. "You could go to jail for that. What is Desmond saying... why did you do it?"He turns to me, his lips trembling. He looks remorseful, like he regrets it all. He leans on the wall, his back slowly sliding down as he drops to the floor. He sits on the stairs, with his head buried in his hands. "Why, Ryan?" My voice breaks. I can't make sense of this, or anything happen
ROSE'S POV "What? It does not make sense. I did not sign it." I pace, rubbing my palms together. "The document is legal, Rose." He finally turns off the headlights of his car and slams the door. "If we must act, we have to do it fast. And in doing that, we attack the credibility of the judge."I clutch my head, shaking it hurriedly. "I do not understand anything you are saying." I step closer. "Who is we? Micah I—" I stop myself. I'm about to blame him for everything going in my life right now.But partly, I mean he is responsible. If he did not give Mom my contact..."I'm not the enemy Rose. I swear, I don't know how Mom got your contact.""But it has to be from your phone. I mean who else in that house has my number?" I fold my arms and wait for him to come up with another lie.Nothing."I think she used Elias." He finally says. "While we were in dad's study." He grunts. "You are missing the point Rose. I'm your big brother the one who has always had your back and who will always
