62. MONIQUE'S POV

"The boss has a girlfriend? Urghh." Jane whines. "You can't let this happen." She says and turns to me.

"Pardon? What do you want me to do?" I try to keep my voice as levelled as possible. I'm already so pissed.

"Oh come-on." She tugs at my arm. "I see the way you too look at each other."

"Huh?" I cringe my face at her and turn to Desmond for support. "He's seen the way I we look at each other. Trust me Jane, you're mistaking hate for something else..."

"With the way he's so overprotective and stares at you like he wants to eat you alive?"

"You too, James?" I frown.

"What? He literally threatened to fire me, twice!" James says, gesturing with his hands. "Wait, that face looks familiar." He tilts his head to the side and stares at Desmond stupid new girlfriend. "That's Mia's sister."

"Mia's sister!?" Jane and I ask simultaneously with our eyes wide.

"Yes." He answers calmly. "I've seen the sisters attend a number of red carpet together."

"Why is the boss dating Mia'

    91. DESMOND'S POV"Ahhh. I'd love you accompany. I like that girl." She squeeze my hands over the desk. "But you know in life, they're some things you have to do by yourself, and this is one of those things." I let out a deep breath. "You're correct. Thanks for the talk.""Anytime, son." She beams at me and walks out.Clark rushes in behind her and start reciting my schedule. I sigh, I can't get anything he's saying. They're just entering in through one ear, and flying out through the other. This is fucking frustrating! I slam my desktop shut, and Clark shakes from the force. He compose himself and stare at me with furrowed brows. I ignore him, and stand to my feet, adjusting my tie. I walk towards the door."Sir, are you heading to the first meeting?" He says, following. "Sir, you have a lot of—"I step out of the office and spin, glaring at Clark who's still inside. "Reschedule the meetings." I respond and slam the door nosily in his face and board an elevator down. I can't be craz

    090. DESMOND'S POVI manage to put a tough smirk on my face as I step into the DS building, but I'm spiralling inside. The receptionist and few staffs coming in early greet me. I nod and stop to glance around for that blonde hair and blue eyes but I can't spot I anywhere that's when I remember that she's gone. No, I made her leave and now she's not coming back. Oh, I'm just a fool. I keep driving good women out of my life. Why was I so stupid? Why did I do those awful things to Monique?I sigh and fix my hands into my pocket. She's all I've been thinking about. I can't get my mind off her, but what does it matter if she comes back now would I treat her any better? I can't even place the point Monique became someone so important in my life...was it when she helped me bag Moore's campaign? Or, the time I talked about my family and she listened? Or the time we traveled for my mom's spring festival, or... How didn't I realize this sooner? This is the damn feeling I've tried to avoid this

Chapter 88 – The Firing Monday morning came too soon. Monique’s eyes were still puffy from crying, but she forced herself into her best black dress and heels anyway. If Desmond thought she was going to crawl away quietly, he was wrong. The office was buzzing when she walked in. Heads turned. Conversations halted. The weight of whispered rumors followed her down the hall like smoke. Some looked at her with pity, others with judgment, but no one dared to say anything to her face. She kept her chin high, her stride steady. When she reached her desk, her computer login had already been disabled. A sinking chill ran through her. “Monique,” Jane’s fake-sweet voice chimed from across the room. “The boss wants to see you.” Of course he did. She walked to Desmond’s office, every step heavier than the last. She knocked once before pushing the door open. He was at his desk, suit pressed, posture perfect, like nothing had ever touched him. “Close the door,” he said without looking up. Sh

Chapter 86 – Fallout The hospital walls still smelled like antiseptic and heartbreak when Monique finally stumbled outside. The night air was sharp against her damp cheeks, cooling the tracks of her tears. She thought she’d find relief, but her chest only felt heavier, as though each breath dragged her deeper into the pit of guilt. She didn’t even realize Desmond was behind her until his shadow fell across hers. “Monique.” Her body froze. She turned slowly, and there he was — tall, immaculate even after the chaos, but his face… his face was carved from stone. No warmth. No softness. Just a mask of control. Her lips parted, trembling. “Desmond, I—” “Don’t.” His voice sliced through her like glass. “Not here. Not now.” The way he looked at her — it wasn’t anger, not really. It was worse. Disgust. As though he couldn’t bear the sight of her. Monique shook her head, words tumbling out in a whisper. “I never wanted this. I never wanted her hurt. I didn’t even know—” “Save it.” He

Chapter 85 – The Hospital ChaosThe sterile brightness of the hospital burned into Monique’s eyes as she rushed down the corridor. Her hands shook, her clothes still disheveled from the night before, but none of it mattered. All she could hear was the frantic echo of Rose’s cries, the image of her collapsing against Desmond’s chest replaying in her mind. She had grabbed a cab the second they left the penthouse, trailing behind like a shadow of guilt. Now she stood outside the maternity ward, her chest heaving, trying to gather courage.Through the glass window, she could see Rose lying on a hospital bed, pale and trembling. Doctors and nurses moved swiftly around her, their voices urgent but controlled. Desmond stood at the foot of the bed, gripping the metal rail, his face ashen. Then the doors slid open, and two women swept in.The first was elegant, stern, with the kind of presence that silenced a room without words—Desmond’s mother. Her heels clicked against the linoleum as she st

Chapter 84 – The BetrayalMonique’s chest heaved as she stared at Desmond, words choking her throat. The sheets clung to her body, damp with sweat and shame, and she realized—too late—that she had walked straight into a trap.“You called Rose?” Her voice cracked, high and panicked. He buttoned his shirt with maddening calm. “She deserves to see the truth.”“The truth?” she echoed, clutching the sheet tighter. “What truth, Desmond? That you used me? That you’ve been playing me like a fool?”His jaw twitched, but his voice stayed even. “That you aren’t as innocent as she thinks. That you chose me—knowing who I was, what I meant to her.”It felt like a slap. Her throat burned. “You’re cruel.”A knock rattled the front door. The sound jolted through her bones like thunder.“No—no, Desmond, don’t do this.” She scrambled out of bed, dragging the sheet with her, stumbling barefoot across the polished hardwood. She pressed her palm to his chest, desperate. “Please. Don’t let her see me like t
