An excited Alvira walked into the estate bright and early the next day. She was more than happy about the job.
If she gave her best to the job and worked honestly, she could ask for an advance payment to restart her father's chemotherapy. She just hope the rich people's heart was as generous as the amount of money they would be paying.
She knocked on the giant door that led to the main building after walking into the property for fifteen minutes undisturbed.
The security men stationed at the gate had looked at her with pity and had let her in immediately, the moment she said she was the new caregiver but Alvira hadn't given it a thought, she was too excited about the new job to worry about their body language.
If the worse got to worse she could just assume they were jealous of her as her pay was high and God knows they don't pay caregivers that amount anywhere.
The door opened and a maid with a cleaning cloth in hand looked her up and down with a questioning look. Alvira beamed and stretched out her hand
"Hi! I'm Alvira, I got a job to work here as the new caregiver." She said proudly.
The maid's face twisted with confusion as she looked Alvira up and down again not taking the hand.
"You?"
Alvira nodded proudly
"Aren't you too young?" The maid asked with concern this time but the ignorant Alvira laughed and said proudly,
"I might be young but I have experience."
"Really?" The maid asked still looking her up and down again but this time sadly; Alvira nodded with enthusiasm.
"No amount of experience you have would prepare for what you are about to face here." The maid muttered with a sigh.
"What do you mean by that?" Alvira asked with confusion.
"Never mind, follow me." The maid said. She walked into the building and the excited Alvira followed her but the maid didn't share her excitement.
She was only glad that the Elders of the Walkers’ family were still around, this mistake had to be rectified. All of Sir Simon's other caregivers were women in their thirties. Women who had a family or responsibilities. But this girl, she was too young. What were they thinking? They could ruin this girl's future entirely by making her work for Sir Simon.
Think about it, all the women who have worked here always had their self-image damaged. Sir Simon made them feel incompetent and useless. If a young girl in her twenties experienced this, wouldn't her future be ruined forever? And by the way, what did the youths of these days know about hard work other than trending on social media?
If Simon maltreats this girl and she exposes him to the world, it wouldn’t end well for this family. The maid deduced as she walked Alvira into the living room.
"Wait here, I would inform Mr. Walker that you are here." She said quickly before walking away, glancing at the pitiful girl one more time.
But while she was busy pitying and worrying about Alvira's future, the person in question was busy looking around the mansion with awe. She hadn't seen a house this big or elegant on the inside. She couldn't wait to start working here.
…..
Meanwhile, in the dining room, Ben is seated at the head of the table, and Sarah was seated beside him on the right as they ate their humble breakfast of bacon, egg, with cheese sandwich. The maid from earlier walked in.
"Sorry to disturb you, sir, but the caregiver arrived."
"Oh?!" Sarah said quickly as she looked up before Ben could reply. "Please tell her to join us for breakfast. Oh and have someone prepare a plate for her." Sarah immediately gave orders and the maid along with two others went about carrying it out.
Sarah turned back to Ben and sees him giving her a questioning look. She smiled and patted the back of his hand that laid lazily on the dining table.
"You'll see why."
Soon Alvira walks in behind the maid with a bright smile. Ben gave his wife a knowing smile and stood up immediately.
"Hello, you must be the caregiver." Ben Walker began to say as he stretched out his hand. Alvira rushed forward to shake it.
"Yes, Mr. Walker. My name is Alvira Smith." She said with a bright smile then glanced at Sarah who was staring at her with interest.
Alvira smiled warmly at her, she assumed she would be the patient and wanted to win her heart over immediately. Ben followed her gaze as he nodded.
"This is my wife Sarah."
"Good morning ma'am," Alvira said quickly.
"How are you dear, have a seat." Sarah said gracefully indicating the seat directly opposite her. Alvira obeyed but allowed Ben to take a seat first. The elderly couple noticed and stared at her with admiration.
Sarah immediately snapped her fingers and a plate was placed in front of Alvira surprising her.
"I hope you don't mind joining us for breakfast." Sarah asked and Alvira shook her head smiling. She just couldn’t understand what exactly was wrong with Sarah or why she needed a caregiver.
The old woman looked capable of taking care for not just herself but also the household from what she can see. Could it be that it wasn't her who needed the caregiver? Alvira asked herself as she stared at the meal that was being served.
Was there a person more elderly than them in the family?
"Please eat." Sarah said and Alvira nodded.
"Thank you." She replied as she picked up her fork and began to dig into the meal. Even though the meal seem humble and popular, the taste was exquisite showing that a meal with such taste could only be served in the home of the wealthy.
"So tell us about yourself Miss Alvira." Sarah inquired
"Oh, okay, my name is Alvira, as you already know. I am an only child." Alvira said and Ben raised his brow.
"Do your parents know that you applied to work as a caregiver?" Ben asked.
"Yes. Yes, they do know and they support me hundred percent." Alvira said to them, then quickly added. "I know every experience as a caregiver is unique to different patients but I promise you, I am up to the task." Alvira said as she had just remembered what the maid she met earlier had said to her about not being prepared to face what this house held.
The couple shared a glance as they both wondered if she already knew who her patient was. Sarah cleared her throat and adjusted herself in her seat immediately,
"So I saw in your CV that you cared for your father for two years,"
“Yes ma, I did.” Alvira said with a nod,
"Can you tell us about that?" Sarah asked glancing at her husband.
"Yes…Uhm, Dad was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He has been hospitalized so mom and I have taken turns taking care of him." Alvira explained with a melancholic smile.
"So how is he now? Is he well now?" Sarah asked and Alvira shakes her head.
"Dad is still sick. His cancer seems to always regrow after surgery." Alvira explained sadly.
"So you are working as a caregiver to help him financially." Ben deduce and Alvira nods.
"Yes sir."
The couple shared a glance and sighed. Then Sarah smiled, "We hope he gets better."
"Thank you, ma'am."
"And if you need anything, don't hesitate to come to us. Okay?" Sarah said again.
"Thank your ma'am." Alvira replied.
"You should eat your meal. Our son is the stubborn type. You would need the strength." Ben said and Alvira smiled thinking it was just the usual kind words.
So the patient was his son. She thought as she ate.
"Sir Simon is Mr. Ben's grandson not his son." The maid who was leading Alvira to Simon's room said. The maid was relentless and was tiring Alvira out, from the moment the walk began, the maid has been giving her numerous rules of the so-called Sir Simon that she was not to violate.Don't admire the room when you go in.Don't add any form of sugar or cream to his coffee, he likes it black.Do not make a joke.Do not bother acting nice, he doesn’t like people who are too nice.Don't offer to do anything for him unless he asks for it. Blar…blar…blar..Alvira did not understand why the maid felt the need to tell her all this. She was an adventurous person by nature and would love to make her own mistakes and learn from them but this maid was bent on teaching her. If she is so knowledgeable about Mr Simon, why didn't she become his caregiver instead? Alvira thought as she came to the conclusion that the maid was jealous of her. A lot of workers here are filled with jealousy, she deduced.
Alvira sat on the small couch in the corridor behind the mansion replaying all that had happened earlier in her head. No matter how many times she replayed it. she just couldn't understand where she went wrong. It wasn't like they've met before. I mean if she had met him before, there was no way she could forget. He had such a strikingly handsome appearance. Then what was it?Alvira asked herself lost in her own thoughts, she had been brought down here after the encounter with Simon and practically all the maids in the mansion had gathered around her. The maids who now surrounded her gossiped about Simon, everyone telling their own version of how ruthless Simon had been to the previous care givers.Alvira looked at them and then finally understood why they were all acting weird that morning, they saw her as the next victim of Simon Walker and they all shared in the pity. The maid who had not only led her into the house but had also taken her to Simon’s room looked at her with distre
Butler Jared gave Alvira's innocent smile a weird gaze. The words she spoke was not only strange, they were also practically impossible and made absolutely no sense. Sir Simon would never ask anyone to cut off his phone connection from the main house.Seeing he didn't believe her Alvira sighed putting on her acting skills. It was a in this moments that the role playing she and her father always did would benefit herEven though she wasn't planning to be an actress but a marketer in the future, she could still act pretty well. "Do you want to go and ask him yourself? You can go. Just don’t call him. He is pretty annoyed about something that has to do with the phone. I don't know what it is." Alvira said skillfully with a depressed look.Jared, looked at Alvira again. He had already heard of Sir Simon’s anger this morning and was impressed that the girl could even go back there and convince Sir Simon to give her another chance to try.In the past, when Sir Simon told them to teach someo
Ben and Sarah laughed loudly until tears ran down their eyes as they listened to Jared tell them the events of the day, especially what had transpired between Simon and Alvira.Even though it was shocking to hear someone act like that, it was also a great relief, at least now they have someone who could match up with the stubborn Simon, and if all things were equal, she might be able to force him out of the prison that he had turned that room into. "If we had gotten her employed here earlier, I wonder how much progress we would have made with Simon," Ben said as he wiped his tears. "That is very true sir, not only did she force Sir Simon to let others help him, she also made sure he ate the breakfast prepared by the cook," Jared explained. "Really? He ate the food Edda made?" Sarah asked with surprise. "Yes madam, he did," Jared said. "Hmmm nice," Sarah said with a nod, "when did she get off work?" she asked again. "6 pm, she left when Sir Simon had his dinner and had no other n
Alvira came to work the next day, with a bounce on her feet, and the reception she received was the total opposite of the one she got the previous day, today, right from the gate she noticed the smile and the look of worship that the security guards gave her, and like yesterday, Alvira didn't understand why? The previous day, when she returned to the hospital, she had told her father what Simon was like and he had told her to exercise patience and had joked that not everybody was as well-behaved as he was. Even if her father didn't say that she had decided from the start that she was going to endure Simon till the end.The front door opened before she could knock and Lara stepped out beaming at her "Miss Alvira, I see you've arrived, please come with me, Mr. and Mrs. Walker, want you to have breakfast with them," Lara said as he walked towards her with a smile. "Okay," Alvira said as she followed Lara into the mansion,As they made their way towards the dining room, passing maids
Life was an ass! And Simon hasn't seen anything as frustrating as his life. He had gone downstairs the night before to make sure he never saw the face of that annoying woman again, but instead, he had made her receive the approval of his family and even the servants. To say he didn't feel the celebration in the air was an understatement, he felt it so much he had gone to bed in anger, and now he was awake and was still angry. The most annoying part of this was that he had lost all the right to fire her. His grandfather had specifically stated that she would only lose the job if she chooses to quit by herself. How did it end up like this, his grandfather, even though annoying has never forced him to retain any servant against his will, not before her, so why her? Why now? It was all because of that stupid woman who cut off his land phone, if she hadn't, would he have gone downstairs? Or cause the mess that was going on right now? He should have just waited till today to fire her u
Even though Alvira arrived early the next day with the hope of setting a new pace, one different from the futile effort she went through the day before, all hope of achieving that was dashed the moment she walked in through the door to Simon's room. Simon, who was still laying on his bed, welcomed her with a smile. "Miss Alvira, you are finally here. You're just the person I have been wanting to see," He said. "....." Alvira stared at him speechlessly, she had arrived early today but he made it seem as if she arrived later than the previous day. Moreover, why does his room look like it hasn't been cleaned yet? She had better go downstairs and remind the maids of their duty, she thought. "Good morning, Sir Simon, did you sleep well?" She asked with a forced smile. To be honest, she wasn't exactly happy to see Sir Simon that morning, she had come early hoping to have a few minutes to herself before she saw him, only for a maid to tell her, Sir Simon is waiting for her upstairs and
Alvira groaned as she rolled to lie on her stomach at the edge of her soft bed and slowly opened her eyes. It was the first time she was sleeping in her bed this week, it was also the first time she wasn't being woken up by the loud annoying sound of her phone alarm, which she has to manage since she accidentally ruined the manual alarm clock she owns. It was also a day free from her abusive boss, who was no other than Sir Simon. She no longer saw him as her patient, no patient treated their caregiver the way he treated her. She thought with a sigh as she began to get moody at the nature of her job and the amount of stress she had gone through in one week. Luckily for her, her mother had asked her to come to spend the night at home when she returned home last night since she didn't have night shifts on Friday night. Alvira was most grateful for the offer that she ran home and fell on her bed with a heavy thud, dozing off before her head even hit the pillow, she didn't even bother t
