Chapter 5

*Satvi Pov*

I don’t know for how long I sat like that and felt tears rolling down my cheeks. After a few minutes, I composed myself brushing my tears away and mumbled “I am so sorry.”

“I... really don’t know that someone died in that accident.” I added looking up to stare at him, but he is staring back with coldness.

“The marriage will be in three days in a registered office.” He said checking the time of his watch.

“What? I don’t want to marry you.” I mumbled frowning still not able to believe that someone died.

“Because of you she died…” I cut him off and asked, “How do you know?”

“How do you know that it happened because of me?” I asked again.

“Didn’t you tell the doctor that you were picking up your phone when the accident happened?” He asked back making me close my eyes immediately.

“I don’t know what to say, but my decision will not change.” I said shaking my head.

“Then my decision on the house and business will get strong.” He said shrugging.

“Why are you so eager to marry me? Are you mad?” I asked him in anger when he started his blackmail again.

“Why would I be mad?” he asked still in a composed manner.

“You believe that your wife was dead because of me then how can you marry me? And to top off that I can see you hate me. So why are you hell bend for this marriage?” I asked him directly.

“Well, I have to get married and have an heir for all the properties. I don’t want to marry someone and ruin their life. And I want to ruin your life. So by this marriage, my two goals can be achieved.” He replied shrugging.

“You are a horrible man.” I said with complete disgust I am feeling towards him.

Hearing those words, he didn’t say anything but just sat there staring at me without blinking for even a second. I just wish he is thinking of not doing this charade anymore.

“It’s good that you already think like that about me and don’t worry, I will keep up to my title.” He said making me feel defeated in convincing him.

“If you want, you can take revenge on me by other means, but marriage is not just a silly matter. I am really sorry about your wife, but I can’t marry someone whom I don’t know and who hates me like this.” I said in a calm tone hoping he will understand.

“I am getting late for my meeting. I will take my leave, but don’t worry. You have three days to get your mindset regarding this matter. We are getting married, and nothing will stop it.” He said getting up and left the house.

“Why is it happening to me Dad? I never thought that someone would die because of me, but this mad man is taking everything to another level.” I said closing my eyes.

“I know it is a tough decision, but think more before taking it.” He said sitting in front of me.

“Why did the police didn’t arrest me? If he wants, he can throw me behind bars with just even a small suspicion.” I asked him opening my eyes.

“He is the one who made the police close the case.” Dad replied looking down.

“He is such a weird man.” I mumbled.

I looked around the house and saw that we can’t lose this house no matter what happens, and the business is also important for all of us as I can see Karthik and Leela is depending on it.

Karthik can get a job elsewhere, but Leela didn’t even get graduated completely. I rubbed my forehead swaying towards the marriage idea, but I can’t do that because it is my whole-life matter.

“What do you want me to do, Dad?” I asked him hoping he has a suggestion.

“You do what you want to.” He replied making me sigh.

He stopped interfering in our decisions from the time Mom died due to cancer when I was fourteen. I know he will not suddenly interfere with them now, but still I hoped that he will.

“I will go and get some rest.” I said, getting up and turned to see both Karthik and Leela holding their hands.

I gulped and climbed the stairs looking away from them. I still can’t believe that they both got married as from one year I mean two years if I count my coma time I thought we both will get married.

Standing before the small mirror, I started tracing my head with my fingers. Tears welled up in my eyes when I saw how a simple wrong thing of trying to lift a call can change my life like this.

I am being forced here, or I can even say blackmailed to get married to a person who hates me with his every nerve.

I can’t do this no matter regarding the things that are at stake. I know karthik will not abandon my family if they need something, and he is the topper in our college, so I am sure he will get an amazing job with which he can take care of Leela perfectly.

Dad can go to his village home where his brother is living, and he will be delighted too. And Mom will be sad if I go through this to just save her memories.

She loves me more than this house, so I don’t need to do this at all. I got confident with all these matters brushing my tears away.

I took out my bank checkbook and started calculating the amount I have in that for the part-time job I did in a café during the college time.

I have a degree and some money with which I can live somewhere well, even though with just needs. I can get there without going through all this stupid deal.

Taking out a small bag, I started packing the clothes which will take less space, but are useful and some important things. I hid it under the bed and laid down, taking a deep breath.

Mr.Rohan Choksi, I will not marry you no matter what happens. If you asked me to take the legal punishment, I would have without giving it a thought but this is far from legal.

I closed my eyes and drifted off into sleep. I woke up startled when I felt someone shaking me.

“What?” I asked opening my eyes to see Leela standing near me in worry.

“Are you running away?” she asked and I shushed her, hoping no one heard her.

“How do you know?” I asked her in a whisper.

“I was sweeping your room when I saw the bag. I didn’t see it until today, and I even saw your few clothes in it. So, are you?” She asked frowning.

“Yes! Because this is the only solution I have.” I replied and explained what I thought to come out of the situation.

“So, what do you think?” I asked her.

“I don’t know!” she mumbled, looking away.

“I am sorry if you have to go through the hardship for a few days, but don’t worry when I get a good job I will send half salary near you.” I said promising her.

“I don’t need it, but think again because he will not sit quietly.” She said shaking her head.

“You know him?” I asked her frowning.

“I saw him during this one year, and I know what I saw is true and he will definitely not leave you alone.” She replied sighing.

“I will pick up my chances then. And I will leave tomorrow early morning.” I said, looking at the time and saw that it is evening.

“Ok! By what transport?” She asked frowning.

“Bus! I want to keep as much money as I can without spending. And I am leaving even my share of Mom’s gold jewelry with you. Use it if you want, but try not to sell them.” I replied taking out a small bag.

“No Di! You need it so keep it with you.” She said refusing.

“Ok! I will but you will inform me if ever you think you need money.” I said after a few minutes as she kept on refusing.

“Sure! I will miss you.” She said hugging me.

“Even I will.” I said, hugging her back.

“Good night!” she mumbled leaving the door after giving me a tray of food, and some snack items which I can take with me.

I woke up hearing my alarm in the early morning and got freshened up properly as I don’t know when I will get a proper place to live. I covered my head with a small veil like a hijab to cover my bandage and also as a disguise and left the room.

I looked around the house before walking outside. I took an auto and reached the bus station within minutes.

I glanced at all the city places and decided to opt for the one which will have an ocean for sure as I will definitely not miss a chance to watch a beach now.

Kolkata! This would be ideal for me. I thought and took a ticket for that place. Walking towards the place where the busses which go to Koltata stop, I sat down.

Due to my luck, I saw that a bus arrived within just few minutes. I got up gazing at the bus and was about to pull my bag, but looks like it got stuck to the bench.

I frowned and turned to find out what I should do to remove it, but my eyes widened, looking at the reason for my inability to lift my bag.
