The Unseen Enemy

Damian’s POV

The numbers just kept going up.

I sat at the very end of the wooden dining table in the vineyard house, with my laptop still open and my phone beside my coffee mug, which was half full, but cold now.

Even though the sun hadn’t broken through the fog yet, the air inside was already thick with the weight of what I was seeing.

"The market is stirred by rumors of a silent acquisition after Blake Bennett's disappearance."

I leaned back in my chair and pinched the bridge of my nose. Eliot was inside, most likely still asleep. I could hear the slow, steady beat of his breathing from the room upstairs. I didn't want to wake him up, not with this.

The screen blinked again.

The Storm AheadDamian’s POVI couldn't control the wall clock from ticking like a countdown. I crossed my arms and stood in the living room in the dark, looking out through the wide glass window as shadows stretched across the quiet woods. Every creak and sway of a tree branch outside made me flinch. The silence here didn't make me feel better; instead it pressed against my chest like a guard. We were supposed to be safe here. But, after listening to the voice message Lila had sent to me, the one she received from an unknown number—I knew safety was a lie.“Tell Damian to stop digging... or Eliot won’t live to see the truth.”Her voice was calm, cold and terrifying.I haven't told Eliot. He was still sleeping, curled under the thick gray blanket, his face half-buried in the pillow. Exhaustion had finally caught up to him and that made him sleep more than usual. The shadows under his eyes were still faint bruises, reminders of the days he spent in jail and the lies he had to tell.

Power GamesDamian’s POVI didn’t know I was holding my breath until Lila pulled up in front of the vineyard house she had sent the location earlier and asked us to wait for her there. She quickly stepped out, and the gravel under her heels crunched. There were no reporters anywhere. ust morning sun and silence.A small set of keys was in her hand. She held them out to me without saying anything. But I haven't taken them yet.Lila noticed my hesitation and moved closer.“I know you don't want to involve me in this, but both of you are not safe,” she said gently, her voice low as Eliot leaned against the car behind me. “I own this place. Bought it a few years ago under a fake name. No one knows about it. Not even Blake or Eliot.”I took a breath, my shoulders dropping. "Lila..."She looked me straight in the eye. “I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for him.”I turned slightly to where Eliot was. But his attention was not on us. He was staring at the trees on the other side of th

Elliot's Freedom Damian’s POVThe coffee mug slipped through my fingers and shattered against the kitchen floor.I wasn't startled by the TV sound. But by the headline displaying on the TV screen. It was bold, blaring, impossible to miss:BREAKING NEWS: Blake Bennett had confessed his involvement in his brother's arrest.Video Confession Airs Across National Broadcast. My jaw dropped, and I stood motionless in one place.Even though the anchor's voice was calm and collected, every word hit hard as she read the news detail: “Earlier this morning, an unknown source leaked video of tech mogul Blake Bennett admitting to setting up the arrest of his brother, Eliot Bennett. The video, which has already been checked to make sure it is real, shows conversations, planned attacks, and clear attempts to sabotage Eliot's career and reputation. So therefore Eliot Bennett is here by ajed to be release after his innocence had been confirmed by the story. Here is a peak of the video footage.”I gri

The Turning PointLila’s POVThe night had gone silent, too silent.I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the glowing screen of my phone, waiting for Damian’s name to came up. Eliot’s lawyer should have gotten the evidence by now. I had been pacing the room, then sat and paced again. But now I was frozen. My heart thudded like a slow drum, counting the seconds that wouldn't go by.When my phone rang, I picked it up right away.“Damian?” My voice cracked. He didn’t even say hello. He just breathed into the phone, you know one of those exhausted, wounded exhales that told me everything before he spoke.“It’s gone,” he said, after a long pause.“What is gone?”“The flash drive. It never made it.”For a split of second, I didn’t understand what he just said. My brain refused to process it.“What do you mean by it didn’t make it?” I asked, my voice rising slightly.Leo’s voice echoed faintly in the background. It came fast, angry, and panicked while damian’s voice was quieter.“it was s

Desperate GambleDamian’s POVThe night dragged on like a slow bleed.Leo and I had been in the living room for more than an hour without moving. The only light coming in was from the laptop screen and the soft glow of the city hitting the windows. The air felt heavy—thick with silence and waiting.Standing on the couch edge, Leo held his phone and laptop in each hand. As I stood by the window with my arms crossed, I looked at the city as if it could tell me what to do.“We should’ve heard something by now,” I said, but my voice wasn't as loud as I thought it would be.Leo didn’t look up. “She’s probably double-checking the upload. She will get back to us soon.”I nodded, but my stomach had other ideas. A dull ache had formed inside me since the drive left our hands. And with every minute that passed, the ache spread like poison. As I walked around the room again, my soft steps echoed off the polished wood.“I should’ve gone myself,” I muttered under my breath “And she wouldn’t ha
