Chapter 8

Author: Miss Fine
Zach went straight to see Jason after he left.

He threw a punch at Jason. Jason let it strike him.

“You still kept her by your side? Jason, how could you do this to Hannah? She was a murderer! And you still have feelings for her?”

Jason’s gaze flickered. There was a long moment before he finally asked calmly, “How is she?”

Zach took a sharp breath, then sneered, “She’s doing just fine. She asked for some money, and she’d be on her way to live it up. You’d just be getting in her way.”

Jason’s eyes dimmed completely at that.

Eventually, he said flatly, “Got it.”

Half a month later, Yvonne sat in a broken wheelchair and spent the entire day dragging herself to the burial site.

Hannah’s grave was halfway up the hill. Yvonne’s wheelchair could not make it up, so she collapsed to the ground and began crawling upward, inch by inch, with her bare hands.

By the time she reached Hannah’s tombstone, her palms were torn open, raw and bloody.

Hannah was smiling radiantly in the photo on the headstone, just like she had always wanted to be remembered: Clean and Pure.

Yvonne sat silently for a long time before whispering, “Hannah, I’m here to visit you.

“I kept the secret safe. Are you happy over there?

“When it’s my time to join you, I hope you won’t turn me away.”

She placed the daisies that she had carefully protected at the foot of the grave. Her tears soaked the petals.

Hannah had been so good to her. She had once wrapped an arm around Yvonne’s shoulders and told Jason, “I treat Yvonne like my own little sister. If you ever dare hurt her, I’ll be the first to make you pay.”

Yvonne pressed her forehead against the cold headstone and murmured, “Hannah, Jason’s bullying me. Could you help me teach him a lesson?”

But there was only silence around her. No response came.

‘Maybe Hannah did not like me anymore either,’ she thought.

On the way back down, Yvonne accidentally tumbled down the steps. She blacked out for a moment, then forced herself to get up. She was bruised and battered from head to toe.

By the time she managed to crawl back into the wheelchair, a car pulled up in front of her.

Jason stepped out. It had been a long time since she last saw him. When he took in the sight of her covered in blood, he frowned slightly.

Yvonne quickly tucked her spasming hands behind her back and said, “I fell and broke my leg.”

Jason’s face went cold immediately. “Who cares what happened to you? I’d have a parade if you end up crippled.”

The pain in her heart pierced so sharply that she could not keep her composure.

He clicked his tongue impatiently and ordered the driver to get Yvonne into the car.

On the drive, Jason smoked one cigarette after another. Smoke quickly filled the car. He tossed a handkerchief over to her and said coldly, “Wipe that blood off your face. It’s disgusting.”

Yvonne did not move. Her hands had already begun to spasm, and she could no longer hold anything.

Jason’s expression darkened further, but he said nothing else.

Shortly after, they arrived at an empty lot on the outskirts of the city. They got out of the car.

The ground was littered with a heap of things in complete disarray. Yvonne froze when she saw what they were.

She recognized every single item.

The dress Jason had gifted her for his coming-of-age ceremony was torn in half. Their engagement invitations. Love letters from high school. The crafts they had made together. And so much more. Every memory that had followed them from school uniforms to wedding vows.

Jason tossed a lit lighter into the pile.

The items had already been soaked in gasoline, and they went up in flames with a loud whoosh. For a split second, Yvonne wanted to hurl herself into the fire and drag it all back.

But she simply stared. Her eyes were dry as if her tears had run out.

Jason said distantly, “I’m a fool for keeping these. Yvonne, falling for you was the biggest mistake of my life. Your bone marrow saved Cindy, so I guess that’s part of the debt repaid.

“From this moment on, disappear from my sight. If I ever see you again, I will kill you.”

Her heart had been burned to ash along with those flames. Jason was moving on, and she was just the dirt on his shoes that should be tossed aside with disgust.

She nodded blankly. “Sure.”

The video began, and the first thing Jason saw was Yvonne’s disfigured face. Tears welled up in his eyes almost instantly. He tried to reach out to touch her with his trembling hands, but the screen stood between them.Yvonne’s body lay still inside the specialized equipment. Unknown fumes filled the chamber, and her body began to melt away…Flesh and blood evaporated into nothingness and left no trace. Next, some liquid splashed down, and her bones shattered, then slowly dissolved into a puddle of water. The water evaporated under intense heat, leaving behind nothing but an empty and spotless surface. The video stopped. On the darkened screen, Jason saw his own bloodshot eyes staring back.“She... really left me with nothing...”His voice was a broken mix of laughter and tears. He sounded deranged, as though he had lost his mind. Eric, who was standing nearby, could not bear it anymore and stepped forward.“Mr. Fender...”The man with glasses spoke softly. “Our deepest condo

Then his cold voice cut through the tense air, “Electroshock.”Eric hesitated.“Mr. Fender, we can’t do this... You’re still injured.”Jason only repeated coldly, “Electroshock.”The silence was thick with dread. Eric shuddered as he knew there was no turning back. He gritted his teeth and connected the shock device. The moment the button was pressed, all three bodies on the beds arched violently in unison. Overwhelming pain exploded through them. Jason clenched his jaw, but a muffled groan slipped past his lips. The agony was unbearable…It was what Yvonne had suffered.Cindy and Samson could not withstand it. The piercing wail of alarms rushed doctors and nurses into the room.“His condition’s deteriorating! Start emergency resuscitation!”“Move, now!”Eric was shoved out into the hallway. He stared helplessly at the chaos unfolding behind the closed door.Just then, Zach strode over and asked in a sharp tone, “What is going on!?”After a rushed briefing from a subordinate, his expression turned ice-cold. “That woman again? What kind of twisted stunt is she pulling now? Why has karma not caught up with her yet?!”Eric took a deep breath and turned to face him directly.“Mr. Zach, I have uncovered something from the past, something you need to hear.”And so the truth came spilling out. As the tale unfolded, Zach’s face twisted, first with disbelief, then rage, and finally a cold and empty stillness…The fury drained from him, and he seemed to crumble from within. His shoulders sagged. His eyes reddened with grief.“Hannah... Hannah, she...”Suddenly, he whirled toward the kidnappe

Beep, beep, beep…The sharp sound of machines buzzed in his ears. When Jason regained consciousness, it felt like every bone in his body had been shattered. His mouth was filled with the taste of blood. Every breath scraped against his ribs like broken glass.Disjointed voices murmured nearby.“His vitals are stable today, right?”“Yes. But I’m not sure why he is still unconscious. It has been three days and nights. We’ve used the best equipment.”“I heard the car hit him straight on and launched him into the air. He was taken directly into the ICU. They issued multiple critical condition notices. He nearly died...”“My God. He is still so young. They say his left leg is probably beyond saving...”Jason slowly opened his eyes. The harsh white light above stabbed at his pupils, and he let out a muffled groan. One of the nurses rushed to his side.“Mr. Fender! You are awake!”“Go get his family, now!”The fog in his head began to lift. His entire body ached with stabbing pain

Jason’s vision began to blur, but Samson’s relentless voice rang in his ears with chilling clarity.“That hospital? I funded it myself. You would not believe the things they have in there.“She was obedient at first. I gave her the full tour. The electroshock, breath control, stretch therapies, you name it. Hmph. Even the toughest ones would break eventually.“Then I found out she had secretly hidden a phone and tried to call for help. I caught her and smashed it.”“After that, I tied her down. Every single day. She was strapped to the bed like an animal. If she acted up, she’d get shocked. If she made a mistake, she’d get choked. If she annoyed me? She’d get whipped!“If you saw the video of her crying on the floor, begging for mercy, you would feel so vindicated. Hahaha!“And guess what? I later caught her carving your name into her skin. That filthy woman still dared to dream of being with you! Look at this photo. Disgusting, right?”He tapped his phone, and a photo enlarged

Jason’s eyes were bloodshot with rage, but at that moment, he could not care less about Cindy lying on the floor. He had to find Yvonne! He needed answers to all these! The belief that had taken root deep in his heart began to crack at last. He finally came to realize something. The person he loved had never been a vicious woman…Jason pulled out his phone with his trembling hands. It was only then that he realized he no longer had any way to contact her. So he quickly called Eric.“Mr. Fender? Is there something you n-”“Where is Yvonne!?”His voice exploded through the speaker, making Eric jolt upright. A chill swept over him as his scalp prickled. “I… I do not know!”Jason knew he had lost control, so he forced himself to take a deep breath. His voice dropped into a low and commanding growl, “Activate every possible connection. I need Yvonne’s whereabouts. Find her. Now.”Eric was drenched in sweat.“M… Mr. Fender, may I ask why you are looking for her?”“So much useless

Zach looked at Jason like he was a lost cause.Disappointment clouded his eyes. His voice was harsh with bitterness. “Jason, you have completely lost your mind.”Jason lay sprawled on the floor with a blank expression. The ceiling light above him burned with blinding brightness.“You would throw away the entire Fender’s Corporation for Yvonne?”Jason’s voice was low and wrecked. “This is what I deserve… I still hold some of Hannah’s shares. I will give them to you too. Consider it part of my repentance.”“Do you think that is enough to atone?!” Zach’s fury twisted his features. “You are not worthy of being Hannah’s brother. You betrayed her. Get out. Get out now!”By the end, he was nearly screaming.Jason forced himself upright. Then he turned and walked out the door without hesitation. He had made his choice. From that moment on, he would face whatever came, so long as it led him back to Yvonne. That door was a shackle, and he had finally broken free. He would no longer lie

He blinked through the dryness in his eyes and stared hard at the daisies.“Hannah...” Jason dropped to his knees and suddenly threw his arms around the tombstone, laughter and sobs bursting out of him. Part of him hated himself for clinging to this desperate self-deception. But another part, a reckless kind of joy was already bubbling to the surface. ‘Look. Look. She’s already forgiven Yvonne,’ he thought. He could not lie to his own heart anymore. If he had to live the rest of his life dragging this pain behind him, then he would rather chain Yvonne to his side and drag her down with him! Let them twist together like vines, choking and strangling each other until death. Even if they rotted from the inside out, at least they would rot together! Jason knelt at Hannah’s grave for the entire day. He had neither food nor water. His eyes were bloodshot and burning, but they never strayed from the daisies beside her grave. He stayed like that until dawn broke the next morning. On

At that moment, Jason’s face went completely pale. Every last trace of color drained away. His body faltered and stumbled forward. “Jason, if you hate her so much, why are you still hung up on her? You are such a fraud! “Weren’t we putting on a show to make her leave? Now that she’s gone, what are you doing here, what is all this fake guilt for?!” Cindy’s voice was growing louder and sharper. Even in the pulsing chaos of the club, people started to turn and stare. “Shut up!” With a violent crash, Jason flipped the table. Cindy jumped. Her face went stark white as she stumbled back a step. Jason looked like a beast cornered and driven mad. His eyes were bloodshot. It felt as though he would lunge forward and tear out her throat in the next second. She finally sensed the danger, staggered back, and bolted out of the bar.The vein at Jason’s temple throbbed violently. It felt as if a knife had pierced straight through his skull, and the pain was so sharp that he could hardl
