Mag-log inLucas's POVI didn't drive back to campus.I drove straight to the warehouse where the Sovereignty Movement was coordinating operations. It was obvious…..cars everywhere, wolves patrolling the perimeter, the heavy smell of fear in the air.I walked in like I owned the place.Kieran was in the main office when I entered. He was older than me……mid-forties, scarred, everything about him screamed violence. He looked up when I walked in."Lucas," he said, surprised. "What brings you here?""I need to talk to you about the Ashford attack," I said. His expression hardened. "Sit down.""I'm not sitting," I said. "I want to know why you authorized it."He stood up slowly. "Because it needed to happen.""People died," I said."One person," he said. "David Rivers. One casualty in this conflict.""He was seventeen," I said. "Just a kid.""He was a casualty of war," Kieran said coldly. "Acceptable losses always happen.""Acceptable to who?" I asked. "His mother? His family? Did you ask them if lo
Lucas's POV I knew my father was furious before I even reached the house. The text came through while I was walking across campus ……”Where the hell are you?Someone told me you were back in Crestwood.” Come home right now. He has never changed a bit. I took a breath and drove to the old territory. The pack house loomed exactly as I remembered it……massive, imposing, designed to show power. I hated the old me when I lived here. My father was waiting in his study when I walked in. "So it's true," he said, not looking up from his desk. "You came back." "I came back," I said. "Not when I asked you to," he said, finally looking at me. His eyes were hard. "Not few months ago when I needed you. When I called and begged you to come home and take over the pack." "I couldn't," I said. "Couldn't or wouldn't?" he asked, standing. "Because it looks like you can manage it fine when there's a crisis. When the Sovereignty Movement attacks and suddenly you're useful again." "That's not why I
Tamara's POVI was leaving my last class when Elena grabbed my arm."He's here," she said. "Lucas is on campus. I just saw him walking toward the library."My stomach did something complicated."Okay," I said. "That's... okay.""Is it?" Elena asked, studying my face. "Tamara, you've built something real here. This doesn't change that, right?""No," I said immediately. "It doesn't. But I still owe Lucas an apology. And he deserves to actually see what we've built."I found him in the library, of course. He was standing in front of the paranormal studies section, and he looked older somehow. His shoulders had that careful set to them…….like someone carrying weight."Lucas," I said.He turned. When he saw me, the careful posture broke. He smiled, and it was real."Tamara," he said. "You look... good. You look happy.""I am," I said. "I also owe you an apology.""No, you don't…….""I do," I interrupted. "I was cruel when you left. You were trying to find yourself, and I made that harder i
Lucas's POVTamara's call came while I was shelving books at the bookstore."Lucas," she said, her voice tight. "The Sovereignty Movement attacked Ashford Pack two days ago . Three wolves were injured, one seriously."The box of books hit the floor hard.I moved to the back room, closing the door behind me carefully."What do you mean?" I asked."They're coordinating with the movement," Tamara said. "Some of your former packmates……the ones you trained with, the ones you actually led. They're actively organizing the resistance against confederation. They see it as a threat to traditional pack autonomy.""How many?" I asked."Enough to be dangerous," she said. "We need someone who understands them from the inside. Lucas, we need you."I sat down. The bench beneath me felt unreliable."I left," I said. "I'm not their alpha anymore. I'm not anything to them.""You're someone who understands both worlds now," Tamara said. "Someone who left and came back. They don't have anyone like that."
Elena's POVAfter Tamara left, I sat on that bench for another twenty minutes.I thought about everything she was carrying. About how exhausted she looked. About how she was running on determination and I thought about how I could actually help.I called Dante."Hey," he said, answering on the second ring like he'd been waiting. "What's up?""I need to design something," I said. "Something important. Can you meet me at the studio?"Three hours later, we were spread across the design tables with sketches everywhere."So you want to create a unified symbol," Dante said, studying the rough sketches I'd brought. "Something that represents all the packs coming together?""Not just a symbol," I said. "A complete visual identity. Something that makes the confederation real and tangible. Right now it's abstract packs meeting, agreeing, coordinating but if every pack wore the same symbol, used the same materials... that makes it visible. That makes it mean something."Dante looked at me, and I
Tamara's POV I was crossing the quad between my Chemistry class and the library when Elena called my name. I hadn't seen her in months. Between the program, the coordination with packs, and the constant Council meetings, I'd barely had time to breathe, let alone maintain friendships. But Elena was suddenly there, walking toward me with an expression that shifted from excited to concerned in about two seconds. "Tamara," she said, catching up to me. "I was hoping I'd run into you. I feel like we haven't actually talked in forever." "I know," I said, and the guilt hit immediately. "I'm sorry. Everything's been….." "Insane, I know," she said. "I heard about the program being a massive success. That's amazing. But….." She stopped walking and looked at me carefully. "Are you okay? You look like you haven't slept in a week." I must have looked worse than I thought. "Just exhausted," I said, which was true but incomplete. "Come sit with me," Elena said, grabbing my hand. "Right
