Lucas's POV

Nothing had changed.

That was the first thing I noticed driving through Crestwood. The streets looked the same. The campus was the same. Even the sky was the same gray it had been two months ago when I left.

Everything had changed for me in Portland.

But here? Here was exactly the same.

I drove straight to the arena didn’t know why. Just felt like the right place to start.

The doors were open. I could hear the sound of people moving around……Of someone doing drills.

I walked in.

  • In love with my Ex’s Rival:The Ice Hockey Rival   The acceptance

Lucas's POVThe council chamber felt different this time.I'd been here before watched Garrett run meetings. Sat in the back listening to older alphas argue about territory and resources. But this time I was walking in as someone they were voting on. Actually voting on me for a real position. My hands were steady when I opened the door."Lucas," Garrett said when I came in. He was sitting in the center seat. The coordinator position. Eye contact. Full attention. "Are you ready for this?""Yeah," I said. My voice came out solid. That was good. That meant I wasn't as terrified as I thought. My father was already there. He nodded at me like he was saying…..I see you doing this.Sarah from Northridge smiled. The other pack leaders filtered in. Some of the older members. "We're here to formally vote on Lucas Panne as confederation liaison," Garrett said. Straight to business. "He's chosen this role. He understands the responsibility.""What makes you qualified?" One of the older pack membe

  • In love with my Ex’s Rival:The Ice Hockey Rival   The midterms

Tamara's POVThe literature exam was four hours.Garrett had made me coffee at 5 a.m. Elena had quizzed me the night before.I walked in and just did it.I turned in my exam and walked out into the afternoon sun.It was Wednesday afternoon. The program didn't start until Saturday morning. I had three full days before I needed to think about new students or drills or anything besides being a person who just actually passed her midterm exam.“How was it?” Elena texted before I even got back to Fornon House.Good…..actually good.Told you…you’d crush it.Didn’t crush it , just didn’t fail. That’s crushing it for you.She wasn't wrong.I got to Fornon House at 4 p.m. Garrett was in the kitchen making soup. The whole house smelled like it."You're back," he said."I'm back.""How'd it go?""Good. Maybe good." I stopped myself. "I'm not doing the thing where I second guess for a week.""Good." He stirred the soup carefully. "Because you studied hard. You actually know the material. You're no

Just felt like the right place to start. The doors were open. I could hear the sound of people moving around……Of someone doing drills.I walked in.The arena was familiar. The boards……The ice. The way the sound echoed in the empty space. Tamara was on the ice first. Skating hard. She had her head down, focused on some kind of footwork drill. Then Garrett came around the corner with a puck and started passing it to her. That's when she looked up.Her whole face changed when she saw me standing there."Lucas," she said. Not a question. Just……Lucas. Like my name meant something again. Like it meant everything."Hey," I said back from the boards.S

  • In love with my Ex’s Rival:The Ice Hockey Rival   My choice

Lucas's POVThe coffee shop was half full when I got there and it was raining ,it didn’t stop. Just kept going like it had all the time in the world.Maya was already at the corner table. She waved when she saw me. "Hey stranger," she said when I sat down."Hey.""You look different," she said. "Good different. But different.""Two months is a long time.""It is." She took a sip of her coffee. "Dr. Patricia helping?""Yeah. Actually yeah." I ran my hand through my hair. "I'm not…….I'm not angry all the time anymore. That was the weird part. I was so angry and I didn't even know it was happening until she pointed it out. Like, I thought I was just being realistic about how bad everything was. But it was actually just rage masquerading as truth.""What were you angry about?""Everything. My dad…….Kieran…..The war. The fact that I had to leave. " I stopped. "Myself mostly, for not knowing any of it was coming."Maya nodded. She got it. That was the thing about Maya……she'd never needed m

  • In love with my Ex’s Rival:The Ice Hockey Rival   Dinner

Garrett's POVI had the pasta water boiling by 6:15, the chicken was already marinating. The kind of thing that worked because you actually gave a shit about the process instead of just rushing to the finish. My dad had shown me how to cook years ago. Back when he was trying to teach me how to lead. He'd said that leading and cooking were the same thing…..attention to detail, knowing when to step in and when to let things develop on their own.I'd thought he was full of shit at the time. Now I understand. The kitchen at Fornon House was good, not commercial but bigger than most. I had counter space.I didn't have to worry about getting in anyone's way because I'd asked the staff to clear out. Nobody needed to see me doing this.I heard her steps right on time. She came in through the side entrance. The one closest to where I was. Like she'd planned it or like she just naturally knew which door to use."Hi," she said from the kitchen doorway. She was in training clothes still sweaty fr

  • In love with my Ex’s Rival:The Ice Hockey Rival   The council meeting

Garrett's POVI dropped my phone on the desk and turned toward the door. The council chamber was already full. All seven alphas, council representatives and older members from each pack who actually remembered what things were like before everything went to shit. This was the first official session. The one that mattered."Garrett," My uncle said from his seat. "We were waiting.""I was downstairs," I said. "Had to handle something."Sarah from Northridge smirked. She knew I'd been with Tamara but she didn’t care. Just thought it was funny that the young alpha was distracted."We need to start," I said. Sat down in the center. That's where confederation leadership sat. "The verdict came through this morning," Sarah said. She had the papers. Everything official now. "Kieran…. Life detention. No contact with other prisoners.""When?" someone asked."Immediately. He's being transferred to Council custody facility in two hours."Nobody cheered that would have been disrespectful. But I co
