"I had no idea that Alex was hospitalized here," Finn suddenly said from beside her. She could feel his eyes as if waiting to see if there would be any flicker of longing at the mention of the name— Sophia opened her eyes and stared at Finn and after a while, he released a deep breath and looked away—cause there was none.

"He was hospitalized a few days back."

"Oh, have the twins met him?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied.

"And he didn't say anything?"

Sophia laughed, "Aren't you being a little curious now?"

"Worried, not curious," He rolled his eyes.

She nodded.

"For the sake of my sanity and my children's safety, I love the way things have been for the past six years, and the presence of whoever wasn't there before, wouldn't change a thing. Alex is their father but he was my past. So his presence now doesn't affect me, Finn." Sophia said as the doors of the elevator opened and she stepped out.

"I have something to attend to right now, so maybe later," that was the last thing she said b

The first thing Alex felt was warmth. His lashes fluttered open to the spill of morning light leaking through the curtains.Sophia was asleep beside him, his arm draped possessively over her waist, and her back was tucked against his chest. Her blonde hair was a tousled mess, cascading down her back, and her lips were slightly parted. He let out a slow breath, not moving. She looked so beautiful and peaceful, and his heart skipped a beat at the sight. His eyes traveled over the exposed skin of her neck, down to where the sheet had slipped just enough to tease the swell of her breast. She was completely naked. He hadn't realized when he fell asleep, the last thing he remembered was wearing his boxers and sending a text to Matt.A deep breath escaped his lips, and he glanced up at the ceiling, fighting back the urge to cup her breast and touch her. But then he remembered her words from last night, and just thinking about it didn’t let him do what he wanted to.Alex puffed out a breath,

He laughed, lowering himself to brush his nose against hers. “Fair. But I loved you before we started, during, and after. My brain may be rebooting, but the love’s already hardwired.” Sophia smirked, but her eyes softened. “You don't believe me?” He asked, brushing his fingers on her scrunchie, his gaze trailing over her flushed skin. Sophia’s eyes trailed over him as his words sank in. She did. She believed him so much. Bu-bum. Bu-bum. His heartbeats raced. How could she not when she could feel the drum of his heartbeat? A moment passed before she answered, “I do. It’s just the timing.” Alex chuckled low, and his finger brushed against her skin. “Alright. I guess I'll keep saying it until the timing is right.” His gaze dropped, trailing down the length of her arm, catching on the scattering of freckles along her shoulder. They were faint golden flecks he hadn't noticed before. They looked so beautiful, like tiny scattered constellations or even sun-kissed dots.

She gasped, her hand gripping the sheets, the sound pulled from her throat before she could think. He groaned low at her reaction, gripping her thighs more firmly as he dove in again. He ate her like he needed her to believe she was worth worship. Soft, slow flicks. Then deeper, firmer pressure. He didn’t rush at all. He just read her. How her thighs trembled. And the way her hand slipped into his hair and tightened. Her breath turned choppy and fast. She whispered his name, and he looked up, mouth slick, voice husky. “I want you to fall apart,” he said. “Just for me, love.” And she did. He brought her there with slow movement, coaxing her release out, and teasing it out slowly until she was gasping and writhing beneath him, clutching the sheets like they were the only thing holding her together. When she came, her back arched off the bed, her mouth open in a broken sound, her fingers twisted in his hair. He didn’t stop until she was trembling. The aftershocks ran down h

Alex laid on his back as he inhaled Sophia’s hair before his fingers brushed through it. The sheets twisted beneath them, tangled like their bodies still were minutes ago. Sophia lay half-draped across Alex’s chest, her fingers tracing faint, absent-minded lines over the center of his stomach while her cheek rested near his heart. It was racing. His arm wrapped lazily around her, but his hand hadn't stopped moving, trailing slow circles against her shoulder, up her neck, into her hair. His other hand rested lightly on her wrist, where her scrunchie had slipped a little during everything. Alex’s eyes dropped to it. He brushed his thumb along the band, his fingers moved gently as they shifted the scrunchie slightly, until something else underneath caught his eye. A black headband. Thinner. Almost faded and folded small to tuck under the scrunchie. He felt Sophia’s breath hitch ever so slightly against his chest as his fingers brushed the scrunchie. “You never take this off,” he mu

Reader discretion is advised. ***** Alex’s gaze darkened, and he pressed a kiss to her temple, then her cheek, then her jaw, as he slowly began to walk towards the bed. Her legs remained around his waist, her fingers tangled in his hair, and every slow step only heightened the anticipation. She could feel every hard inch of him beneath her, the way his hands gripped her thighs and rubbed them gently before sliding to her ass and cupping them. He lowered her onto the bed with such care that it nearly undid her. He looked at her like she was sacred, like she wasn’t just the woman he married and ended up divorcing but the one he’d lost because of his actions and regretted losing every damn day. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as he hovered above her, his hands braced on either side of her head, their noses barely touching. His eyes trailed across her forehead, and he dropped a kiss to the curve of her nose

“I know,” he said quickly. “I know that. And I’m not here to make excuses. I’m just—” He released a deep breath, pressing a palm to the wall beside her. “I’m here because I can’t lose you, and I knew stepping out to go for the damn dinner I don’t even want to attend would make the gap between us burn thinner.” His hand came to her jaw before sliding to her nape, gently making her look back at him. “I can’t lose this,” he confessed. “I’d rather have your anger than your silence or resignation. I’d rather stand here and take every word you throw at me for being such a coward and even making you and the kids an option.” Sophia clenched her jaw, her eyes stinging. She hated how her emotions betrayed her. How the tears she tried to bury began to rise. “Alex…” she whispered, her voice trembling despite her effort. “I am tired. I’m so tired of doing this dance with you. Of building something only for it to crumble every time life shakes us.” Alex’s gaze remained steady on her; fear c
