This time, Old Master Croft could no longer smile.

After a long pause, he seemed to lose his balance and swayed slightly. It took effort for him to steady himself. Rocky tried to support him, but he brushed his hand away.

He sighed and said, “Isn’t this better? I die alone, and everything disappears with me—what’s so bad about that? Must he know that everything he believed, everything he did, was wrong? That all he trusted was false? That he cannot hate, cannot let go, cannot forget… Do you really think it's good for him to spend the rest of his life trapped in pain, regret, and guilt?”

He let out a bitter smile and shook his head. “He suffered tragedy since he was a child—his whole family died unjustly. I couldn’t save them, so I’m to blame. I brought him home but failed to care for him properly and let him be manipulated—my fault again. I watched him stray further and further down a blood-stained path, yet couldn’t stop him. Still my fault. All the blame and punishment, let it fall

Baking cookies wasn’t as easy as it looked—especially for someone like her, a complete kitchen rookie. But she had plenty of time to waste. So what if she made a mess?Following Leif’s instructions, she carefully gathered the ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and a big block of butter. When she finally got to the mixing stage, she glanced down at the slab of butter and frowned.“Um… Mr. Vexley, how exactly are we supposed to cut the butter? Cubes? Slices? Or like… smash it and pray?”After all, she’d only ever eaten cookies that came out of a shiny little package. How was she supposed to know what went into homemade dough?Leif was patient, calmly guiding her step by step. Raina tried to keep up, asking questions the entire way. After much effort and an alarming amount of flour everywhere, she finally finished mixing the dough—and looked proudly at the sticky, lumpy, slightly beige mound in the bowl.Calling it ‘cookie dough’ was generous. It looked more like raw cement mixed

  • Jilted Heiress Strikes Back   An Idea

Raina froze for a moment, then looked at Rocky. Although she was a little confused, she smiled and said, “Of course I remember you. Mr. Croft, you rushed up here just to say that?”She remembered.Rocky let out a long breath of relief, a shimmer of moisture glinting in his eyes. He took a deep breath, then smiled faintly and murmured, “As long as you remember… as long as you remember. I… I thought you didn’t recognize me anymore… I… actually… actually have a lot I want to tell you…”He trailed off there, stuck for quite a while without managing to say anything more.Raina waited patiently for a moment, then tilted her head slightly and said, “Mr. Croft, if you really don’t know what to say, why don’t you tell me after you’ve thought of it?”Rocky paused, then suddenly turned his head to look at her, eyes widening in surprise. “You… you…”Raina pointed at herself. “What about me?”Rocky’s throat tightened, pain shooting through him. His eyes reddened as he stared hard at her, as if he

Leif didn’t respond. He pressed a hand to his ear, and only then did Raina notice that he had a small black earpiece in his left ear—almost imperceptible unless you looked closely. So yesterday, it was through this device that he had found his way onto the stage to save her? Soon, Leif lowered his hand. After a moment of silence, Raina finally heard him speak. He said, “Old Master Croft is dead.” Raina was stunned. She had only been suspicious of Old Master Croft’s long absence from the public eye. And based on some clues she’d received from Elias, she had guessed that Old Master Croft’s health might be failing. That was why she’d asked Briar to prepare a medicinal pill to be sent as a birthday gift. But after the chaos at the Croft residence last night, her gift had likely been buried among the offerings, never reaching Old Master Croft’s hands. She hadn’t expected that his condition was already that dire—that his life was hanging by a thread. Perhaps the sudden upheaval had e

“Ah—!”Raina jolted awake from her nightmare with a gasp, clutching her chest. It took several deep breaths before her heart began to settle. Morning light was already streaming through the window—she’d overslept.A few minutes later, a knock sounded at the door. Knock knock. She froze for a moment, wiped the cold sweat from her forehead, then got out of bed and opened the door.Standing there was Leif.He wore a loose robe, the sash barely tied—as if it could slip off at any moment. Tilting his head slightly, he asked, “Miss Carrington, are you alright?”That scream just now must’ve startled him.Rubbing her temple, Raina’s eyes drifted toward his feet—and paused. Though he looked calm and collected, his slippers were on the wrong feet. Her heart gave a little tug. • Jilted Heiress Strikes Back   The Best Ending for Him

Raina, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, carefully carried Leif in her arms, passing beneath light after light. The lights were dazzling and resplendent.Dozens of bodyguards in black automatically parted to create a path, staring unblinkingly at the two of them. No one knew who started it, but soon the crowd erupted into noisy discussion. Amid the murmurs, Raina caught fragments like ‘so strong,’ ‘accident,’ and ‘wedding gift.’“What wedding gift? I’ve already picked names for Mr. Vexley and Mrs. Vexley’s second child…”“Honestly, with how strong she is, I’m kind of tempted to become sworn siblings with her…”“Sworn siblings? Keep dreaming! Mr. Vexley would chop you up first…”“Mr. Vexley’s taste is truly one-of-a-kind—shocking, beyond belief, absolutely wild…”Raina’s foot slipped a little—she nearly fell. Steadying herself with some effort and securing her grip on Leif, she whispered, “Sorry, did I bump your wound?”Leif replied, “No.”She coughed softly and said, “Hold on, the
