Chapter 2

Author: Snow Pear
Then she took the marriage certificate Daniel handed her like it was something precious and held it up in front of me.

“Take a good look at what a real one looks like. Wouldn’t want you getting fooled by some other woman in the future.”

“Think about it. How could I, the chief lawyer of Red Circle and the eldest daughter of the Johnsons, ever marry a loser like you?”

“Back then, I only married you because you had a handsome face. I just wanted to have some fun with you. But as I got older, I realized a puppy can never compare to a big bad wolf.”

She leaned into Daniel’s chest. The way they clung to each other stabbed into my eyes like needles.

Daniel wrapped an arm around her pale shoulders.

“Come to think of it, if it weren’t for you, Olivia and I wouldn’t have made it this far.

“If you hadn’t hurt me three years ago, she wouldn’t have realized how she truly felt about me.

“But I’ve always been a generous man. Since I took your wife, I’ll give you one in return.”

He handed me a business card.

“There are plenty of girls at Paradise Club. Every single one of them has their own special skills, so I guarantee you’ll be satisfied. Take your pick. Whoever you choose, I’ll gift her to you as your wife.”

Veins bulged on my forehead as I punched him in the face.

“You two disgusting pieces of sh*t—”

The overwhelming hatred made me lose control. I lunged forward, ready to tear the two of them apart.

However, this was the Johnsons’ territory.

The bodyguards immediately moved in, twisting my arms behind my back on both sides.

My eyes burned red as I roared at Olivia.

“Back then, he tried to assault you. I was the one who saved you. And this is how you repay me?!”

Olivia let out a light laugh, then pulled Daniel closer and kissed the blood at the corner of his lips.

After that, she held his hand and looked at me.

“Who said he was an attacker? What happened three years ago was completely consensual. We were both willing. Who knew you’d just happen to walk in at the worst possible moment?

“The worst part was how you rushed in like an idiot and started fighting him. We couldn’t even pull you apart.”

My heart felt like it was being crushed in someone’s grip, the air in my chest nearly ripped away.

Her expression of pain from back then was still etched clearly in my mind.

“But you were calling for help. You looked like you were in pain. You didn’t want it.”

Her smile grew even more unhinged.

“Max, that’s why I called you an idiot. Do you even understand what a little roleplay is?”

In that instant, it felt like all the strength had been drained from my body. My limbs went weak. If not for the table behind me supporting me, I would’ve collapsed right there.

However, she kept going, humiliating me without mercy.

“Back then, you must’ve thought you were some hero protecting your wife, didn’t you? Felt pretty proud of yourself, huh?

“Well, I guess someone as useless as you can only find pride in things like that.

“So now you understand, right? Three years ago, I didn’t suddenly change my testimony. Daniel was never guilty to begin with!”

She really knew exactly how to twist the knife.

I closed my eyes, forcing myself to calm down. Then, gritting my teeth, I asked coldly, “Olivia, are you really going to marry Daniel?”

She exchanged a glance with him, and the two of them burst out laughing almost at the same time.

“If I don’t marry Daniel, who else? You? An ex-convict? Max, you’re way too naive.”

“Fine. Don’t regret it.”

I pulled out the phone that man gave me three days ago and dialed the only number on it.

“Mr. Max, you’ve finally decided to call back.”

“Tell him I’m willing to return and inherit everything. But I have one condition.”

The autumn wind swept past the hem of my clothes as I stared at Olivia and Daniel like a venomous snake.

“Before nightfall, I want the entire Johnsons empire wiped out.”

The moment I finished speaking, the two of them and even the surrounding guests watching the show burst into loud laughter.

“What did he just say? Before nightfall, he wants the Johnsons gone?”

“Even if you’re broke, you shouldn’t be drinking fake alcohol. Listen to the nonsense he’s spouting.”

“Perfect timing. Today’s my wedding day with Olivia. I’ll be generous and let you drink your fill.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the bodyguards I had just broken free from swarmed forward again and pinned me down.

My jaw was forcibly dislocated, and with a malicious grin, Daniel grabbed a bottle from a waiter’s tray, smashed it against the table with a loud crack, and poured the burning liquor mixed with shards of glass straight into my mouth.

She pointed to the large vats in front of us.“See them? One by one, I’ll cut the flesh from your body. You’ll get a taste of the suffering Daniel went through.”I struggled with all my strength.“It wasn’t me who killed Daniel. It was his family. Why come after me instead of them?”She slapped me across the face.“It’s you. If you had died in prison, Daniel wouldn’t have suffered like this. Why are you still alive?“Do you like it sweet or salty? I’ll let you choose first. See? I’m so kind.”She waved her hand, and the men pulled back a black curtain. Several vicious dogs bared their teeth and fixed their gaze on me.“How's that? Remember you said you wanted a dog after we married?“Well, consider this me granting your wish.”She laughed, wild and sharp, then slashed my shirt with the knife. Seeing my exposed muscles, her excitement spiked. In that moment of distraction, I acted. Without hesitation, I sprang up, ramming into her with full force and shattering her nose.I s

“But by then, you and I had already grown distant. I’ve been proud my whole life. I couldn’t bring myself to lower my head and apologize to you.“Only after you left did I realize just how wrong I was.“You were your mother’s gift to me. Never a burden. Never a sin.”I gave a faint smile.I had never imagined that one day, my father and I would be able to sit together like this, calmly and honestly speaking from the heart. After I recovered, I had planned to return to Jinmist City with him.As for those two, I wanted nothing more to do with them for the rest of my life. But even if I were willing to let them go, Olivia wasn’t willing to let me go.Daniel had risen from nothing. The Johnsons’ butler didn’t care whether they agreed or not. He grabbed their hands, forced them to sign, and then pressed their fingerprints down by force.Olivia finally started to panic. Her whole body trembled like a leaf. Like a drowning person spotting driftwood, she crawled toward me.…“Max, I’m begging you to please let me go. We were husband and wife, after all.”Her fake sincerity was cheap and disgusting.“Husband and wife?”I glanced at the fake certificate on the ground, soaked in alcohol and trampled beyond recognition, and let out a cold laugh.“Is this what Ms. Johnson is referring to? Didn’t you say it yourself that it’s nothing but a worthless piece of paper?“You were nothing more than my youthful ignorance, a slip-up, nothing more.”I stepped behind my father and said respectfully, “Father, how they’re dealt with next is entirely up to you.”He nodded. The guards stepped forward, their batons rising and falling in a relentless rhythm.Daniel no longer

The man standing before me was none other than my father, Elijah Miller, the head of the Millers in Jinmist City.A man who could make the entire business world tremble with just a frown. He looked at Henry, who was kneeling on the ground, trembling, and asked coldly.“I heard you Johnsons rule Harbor City with an iron hand, and that you can beat or kill my son whenever you please.”Henry lowered his head even further, his voice shaking as he spoke.“I failed to discipline my daughter. Please punish me, Mr. Miller. I only have this one child. If you are still angry, I am willing to offer this worthless life in exchange. Just please spare my daughter.”Olivia’s eyes reddened instantly. She clearly didn’t understand just how terrifying the Millers truly were. She crawled over and grabbed Henry.“Dad, this is Harbor City. Why are you begging him?”“Here, it’s the Johnsons and the Moores who call the shots. If you join forces with Grandpa, even ten Miller families wouldn’t be able

Love and indifference were obvious. So why did their love have to come at my expense?Suddenly, the roar of engines sounded from outside, and a woman wearing a pearl necklace walked in.She pulled Olivia aside and slapped Daniel across the face.“You lowly piece of trash! You think you can climb up to my daughter?”Olivia immediately grabbed her mother’s leg.“Mom, please don’t hit him anymore. I really love him. I can’t live without him.”Though I no longer loved Olivia, seeing her go this far for Daniel still left a bitter ache in my chest. It was not because I was pathetic or that I still had hope. I was just unwilling to accept it.I had treated her so well. My whole world had revolved around her. Yet, she betrayed me.Nancy rolled her eyes at Olivia, then finally lost her patience and slapped her, too.“I really don’t know how I ended up with a daughter like you. Completely brainless.”She pulled Olivia into her arms, gently touching the wounds on her back. She glanced

The crowd that had been arrogant just moments ago froze instantly.Behind every single one of them, cold, black gun barrels pressed against the backs of their heads. The butler, William, strode forward, helped me to my feet, and bowed respectfully.“Mr. Max, according to family rules, those who offend you are to be punished by whipping.“Considering they caused you harm, their compensation should be doubled.”I nodded. The guests panicked, trying to scatter in all directions.I shot William a look. He understood immediately and raised his voice.“No one leaves. Let this serve as a reminder of what happens when you offend the Millers of Jinmist City.”The suited guards pulled out their whips crafted from oxtail bone fused with iron beads. With a unified swing, the entire wedding venue filled with the agonized screams of Daniel and Olivia.Even on the brink of collapse, Daniel was still cursing me.“Max, hiring all these people to put on a show must’ve cost you a fortune.
