LOGINLast night's events still echo in my mind. That red-haired man felt so real, yet it was impossible for him to come and go as he pleased.
Unless, he wasn't human. "Vaelora," I heard Saga call my name. I turned to him stiffly, "Y-yes?" "I've been calling you, Miss, but you only turned when I said your name." He replied. We were on our way to the office; Saga had picked me up this time. My security had suddenly become tighter than usual; I was sure this was Alaric's request. "Is something bothering you?" Saga asked. His eyes stared at me through the hanging rear-view mirror, occasionally. Clearly, something was bothering me. That red-haired man with red eyes haunted my thoughts. I felt like he had always been near me all this time, that feeling just came out of nowhere. "No, I'm just tired," I replied. I could hear his breathing from here, even though he was driving in front and I was sitting in the back. "Tonight, I have to make sure you get home safely," Saga said. "Alright, this time I'll obey," I replied. The car arrived in front of Haugen Corp. I got out, walked towards my office, hoping today wouldn’t bring any strange incidents like yesterday. Today there isn't much work, except that I've been told there will be a meeting with one of the clients. Alaric said he's an old client of my family who has just reappeared. Officially, the client wants to discuss business with me alone. Funny, isn't it? I wonder what he's like. I'm curious. "Vaelora!" Just as I was heading towards my office, I heard my brother's voice. I turned around, and there he was, my older brother, standing right in front of the meeting room. But it wasn't that which surprised me, but a tall man with red hair and captivating hazel eyes standing beside him. He was very handsome, but he reminded me of someone. That man... He looked exactly like the man who met me in the archive room! His hair, his face, his build, everything was the same. The only difference was the colour of his eyes. Alaric motioned for me to approach him, and I took a deep breath. I tried to walk calmly, even though the atmosphere felt different. It was as if something was pressing down on the air here. I felt suffocated for no reason, transfixed when our eyes met. One other thing I remember about the man as red as blood was his scent. A distinctive scent, masculine and alluring, etched itself into my mind. And this man had the same scent as—the creature from last night. "Let me introduce you to Mr Kael Morveth, the investor you're meeting with today," Alaric said to me. Oh my God, so this handsome man is my client? The man extended his hand to me, "Kael Morveth, you can call me Kael." Our eyes met again, as if there was an electric shock between us. Those hazel eyes pierced me, leaving me transfixed. Slowly, I shook his hand without realising it, and he gave me a slight smirk. "Vaelora Haugen, you can call me... Vael," I said to him. I realised there was a slight similarity between Kael and Vael. Crazy, a coincidence I never expected. "You can have your meeting in this room, please," said Alaric, inviting Kael to enter the meeting room. I quickly pulled Alaric's arm so I could talk to him for a moment. I insisted that I shouldn't be the only one facing Kael. “Why are only he and I meeting?” I asked Alaric. Alaric sighed briefly, then glared at me, “I have important work to do. This is a specific request from Mr. Morveth, and we must comply.” Alaric's answer made me feel once again that this was someone's cunning plan. Or could it just be a coincidence? My steps felt heavy as I entered the room and saw Kael sitting at the corner of the table. He was leaning back and staring at me. His aura was different, he even seemed to be radiating energy that weighed down the surrounding area. I closed the door tightly and walked towards him. "Vaelora," he smiled. In that moment, I knew he was the man from last night. Kael's smile resembled that of the man from last night. "Who are you really? Why are you now appearing in my office?" Kael curled his lips slightly, "Impatient." "Come here, we have a lot to discuss." His cold hand touched me again, and I immediately got goosebumps. But he seemed very calm, not disturbed in the slightest. He pulled me to sit right next to him. I was surprised by his quick movement and didn't have time to refuse. "Haugen, a dishonest family. They didn't tell you anything," he said. His hazel eyes looked at me a little sharply, and I could feel that he was getting serious. "I don't understand what you mean. Explain to me what your purpose is in meeting me?!" I lost my patience. His hand touched my cheek, very slowly and gently, but it still felt cold, so I pushed it away, but he held it there. "Your family owes me their lives," replied Kael. Their lives? My family committed a crime? My heart beat faster, a mixture of anxiety and fear rising within me. "Your name is written in the book, you saw it yourself," said Kael. I didn't understand what he meant, but remembering that book... It gave me goosebumps, and I was afraid that something bad would happen to me. He withdrew his hand, his face changing again to become colder but relaxed. "You'd better find out for yourself, because I don't have much time for this," Kael said again. A very busy man? Then why did he bother coming here if it was just to make me curious! I growled angrily in my heart. This man was quite annoying. He made me curious but wouldn't explain. I opened the file I had brought with me and began discussing work as if nothing had happened before. Kael, a creepy man who intrigued me. Handsome and frightening at the same time. "Vael, are you ready for the next blood moon night?" he whispered to me, making me shiver."Vaelora, don't!" Kaelith’s voice was raw, laced with a desperation that cut me to the bone. From the corner of my eye, I watched his body get thrown back yet again as he slammed ruthlessly against the translucent red barrier trapping me. Lucien’s black chains kept binding his arms and legs, forcing him down onto the cold stone floor. Every single time he tried to stand, the chains clamped tighter, sending up plumes of black smoke that burned through his armor and sizzled against his skin. I sobbed, staring down at my shaking hands. The mark on my neck felt like a branding iron being shoved straight through my flesh. The pain was so white-hot it blurred my vision with tears. "Good... come closer, Vaelora..." the voice in my head whispered again, growing louder, celebrating every single inch of ground I gave up. "Take back what belongs to us." "Vael, get away from the altar!" Alaric yelled from somewhere in the chaos. I stole a quick glance over my shoulder. The back of the
The room went dead silent. I felt the blood in my veins turn to ice. "Seal?" Simon hurriedly flipped through his book with shaking hands. His face went completely pale, entirely drained of color. "No... no way..." "What does it say, Simon?!" Alaric demanded, losing his patience. Simon pointed to a page featuring a drawing of the black coffin we had found earlier. Beneath the illustration was a line of ancient text, which he translated in a trembling voice: "The blood of the First Bride shall open the Final Gate." I froze. The first bride... Rose. "Rose, aren't you—" But Lucien shook his head slowly, shutting down my theory. "No." Every eye in the room—including Rose’s—snapped to him. "Not Rose," Lucien said firmly. I frowned, completely bewildered. "Then who? History says Rose was the bride who was sacrificed!" Lucien smiled thinly, his gaze practically stripping my soul bare. "You are the real First Bride." My body locked up like stone. "That's impossible! Rose i
Vaelora's POV "...It’s been a long time, Vaelora." The man’s voice echoed softly, but every single word hit my chest like a sledgehammer. I froze. He knew me. And he didn't just know the *current* me. His gaze cut right through my flesh, staring straight at a soul that had lived hundreds of years ago. Instinct kicked in. Kaelith stepped right in front of me, using his body as a solid shield. "Don't look at her," Kaelith said, his voice dropping to absolute zero. The man in the black robe gave a faint, amused smile. "Still the same as always. Always putting yourself between her and the world." His cold eyes flicked over to Kaelith. I grabbed Kaelith’s arm, my fingers digging into his sleeve. "Kael... who is he?" Kaelith didn't answer right away. I could feel every muscle in his body lock up, completely ready for a fight-to-the-death. Meanwhile, Rose was glaring at the man with a hatred so pure it could kill. "Lucien..." The name tore from Rose’s lips, dripping with pure
"You two have a child?!" Rose suddenly let out a yell, talking to Kaelith and me. Her voice echoed throughout the basement, and she looked totally shocked. I had no idea what had startled her. Did she really have to react like that just because I was carrying Kaelith's child? I was still trying to fight off the nausea, so I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The longer I was there, the more nervous I got. "Vaelora," Kaelith put his arm around my shoulders, holding me steady as I suddenly bent over and covered my mouth. "I'm doing well, Kael. It's just that my stomach's doing a lot more churning." "Vaelora, if you really can't take it anymore, just throw up," Alaric told me. "I can still hold it in." Rose was still looking back and forth between us, pointing at me and Kaelith in turn. I thought she was being a bit over the top. "A child?" "Yeah," Kaelith replied casually. "A child?" Rose repeated. "Yes." "A CHILD?!" Kaelith massaged his temples; honestly, I thought Ros
I was having a hard time breathing. My whole body froze as I stared at the woman who had just stepped out of that black coffin. As she got closer, I could see that she was me, but she had different eyes. From her face to her hair and even the shape of her lips, she looked exactly like me. It was like I was staring at my younger self.Kaelith looked at her with a face I'd never seen before. It left me wondering. The man stood frozen a few steps in front of me, his eyes wide, his breath held, and he looked completely speechless."Rose..."The name tumbled out of Kaelith's mouth like a whisper that had been hidden for centuries. I looked quickly at Kaelith, then back at the woman. She smiled sadly, and looked at Kaelith."I thought you had forgotten me," the woman said in a soft voice.Even though her voice sounded soft and calm, I could tell she was feeling sad, lonely, and longing for something. The red symbols all over the room were still glowing brightly, and the Wraiths that had bee
Cracks started to appear in the stone floor, and red light shone through the fissures.CRAAACK!The coffin suddenly shattered after shaking, and the stones scattered everywhere. I covered my face with my hands, trying to protect myself even though Kaelith had already done so. Dust began to fill the room, making it foggy.Kaelith grabbed my arm right away and pulled me close to his body. I held my breath as cracks started to appear in the stone floor around the coffin.THUD.THUD.THUD.The heartbeat grew louder and louder, and it was really noticeable. It started echoing throughout the room. It felt like a massive creature was breathing beneath our feet."What the heck is this?" Alaric took a few steps back, holding the iron bar tightly in his hand.Simon opened his old book quickly, his hands shaking as he turned the pages."I've read about this before," he said."What?" Alaric said, "If you know something, say it now!"Simon took a deep breath. "A curse vessel."Everyone turned to h
Kaelith’s gaze began to waver, I could feel my words starting to affect him. Red looked uncomfortable, he approached us again.“Enough with your drama,” he said.A dark aura reappeared around his body.“You’re making me sick!”Suddenly the entire mansion shook violently, Red unleashed an unimaginab
Kaelith fell silent again, his arms tightening around me. It was as if I might vanish if he let go of me even for a moment.I knew my wish was a difficult decision for him, as well as for me. Who could accept such a fate? No couple could bear to sacrifice their soulmate.“No, Vaelora, I can’t. I’ve
I stared at the night sky through my bedroom window. The night of the blood moon had passed a day ago, but Kael's shadow still haunted me. Every word that man spoke, though brief, left a lasting impression and held a mystery. I always felt like he was watching me every moment since last night. Th
