An emergency has just occurred at the hotel. William Davis, the mayor's son, suffers from cardiac arrest in the hotel. Unfortunately, there's nothing the doctor in his team can do about it. I happen to be vacationing nearby, so I quickly rush toward the scene. As soon as I rush into the lobby, the security guards quickly stop me. "A life is being saved at the moment. Unauthorized personnel aren't allowed to enter." I'm about to dig out my work badge when Lydia Sharpe, the intern tagging along, suddenly covers her mouth and shouts daintily, "Don't let her in! There's a scalpel and a syringe of anesthetics in her bag!" Everyone is shocked by Lydia's revelation. The security guards instantly have me surrounded while wearing vigilant looks. Sweat starts rolling down my face out of anxiety. "I'm the head of the cardiothoracic surgery department of Central City Hospital! I've heard about the patient's condition! He must undergo a thoracotomy right away!" The next thing I know, Lydia has snatched my bag out of my hands. Things such as the sterilized gloves, defibrillator, as well as life-saving medication are scattered all over the floor. Lydia steps on the one and only life-saving pill instantly. "I just heard you claiming that it's best if the mayor's son dies right away! Why are you still pretending to be a savior? "Hurry up and arrest her! I suspect she has something to do with the ongoing case! She's definitely a murderer!" The person in charge's expression shifts drastically. Soon, he pins me on the wall. "Detain her and inform the security department right away! This woman is suspected of being involved in a murder!" As I stare at Lydia, I can't help but tremble violently. Right now, I'm the only one in the entire city who can perform the surgery on William. Unfortunately, he can only last for another half an hour in his current condition.

The hate I had received was now directed at Lydia instead, but I didn't feel sorry for her at all. After all, she had brought this upon herself. After Thomas learned about what had happened, he was furious. As it turned out, his son didn't die because there were no doctors—he had died because of Lydia's obstruction. Aside from Lydia, he made sure that Zachary would be punished as well. The hospital dismissed Lydia due to her lack of medical ethics. With no income and her parents breathing down her neck, she had no choice but to come to me for help. She kneeled in front of me and apologized over and over again."I've realized my mistakes, Dr. Quinton. I was angry, and I couldn't let the matter go. I didn't think it would end like this," she cried. She continued, "If I return to my parents' home, they'd definitely make me marry someone from my village! My life would be ruined, Dr. Quinton. Please help me out!"I wasn't one to turn a blind eye to someone else's suffering. I was wi

"I brought the evidence that you asked for," I declared coolly. "As for everything else, you'll just have to wait for the verdict."With a slam of his gavel, the judge cut Lydia off before she could say anything else. Sitting across from her, I stared at her frantic expression and found this situation slightly absurd. My former mentee had now become my enemy—and it was all because of her preposterous actions. After I presented the evidence, Zachary couldn't sit still any longer. He and Lydia had never truly been a team. Now, he was clearly afraid of being held accountable. Hence, he decided to switch up his testimony and throw her under the bus instead."Lydia is the one who's behind everything! She told me that Dr. Quinton hates the mayor's son!" he declared. "She said that if I let Dr. Quinton inside, she would kill the mayor's son. I couldn't bear the consequences, so I didn't dare to release her."He added, "Please conduct a thorough investigation, Your Honor! I didn't do any

My initial reaction was to turn the woman on the phone down. I hadn't met the caller's mother or assessed her condition. As a doctor, it would be incredibly irresponsible of me to agree to her request so casually."You should take a look at what I have before making a decision," the woman said.I was wary. Netizens had resorted to all kinds of tactics in order to attack me. If this was some kind of trap to lure me out and humiliate me, I wanted no part of it. Despite that, something told me that I had to go. And in the end, this decision gave me hope. The woman, Sarah Lloyd, was holding a flash drive. "On the day of the incident, I was hosting a live stream on the floor above you. I believe that this would help you with your current situation."Feeling skeptical, I opened the files on the flash drive and quickly realized that it contained more than what Sarah had mentioned. Her footage even contained audio. As I watched Lydia's arrogant expression on the screen, I grew infur

When the audio was recorded, I had just concluded a surgery. The equipment in the operating room was old, which made it difficult for surgeons to operate on patients. In turn, this placed patients' lives at risk.Because of Lydia's actions, what should've been a minor incident had suddenly become the straw that broke the camel's back.Thomas had learned about the situation as well. After listening to the recording, he fell silent. He didn't believe that I would let personal matters interfere with my work. But despite that, he couldn't help but feel pained by the evidence that Lydia had presented.Up until now, Thomas had kept this matter under wraps. He had never intended for it to be revealed to the public, but Lydia had disrupted his plan.He had the trending topic removed at once, but it was still too late. My personal information had already been revealed. Strangers who had never met me were hurling insults at me online. On top of that, some even came to the hospital to teach m

I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white. This wouldn't work. I couldn't waste any more time. I had to find an opportunity.I stared at Zachary, who was a short distance away, and said, "My phone is in my pocket. You can use it to call the director of Central City Hospital right now."T

"Let go of me!" I screamed at the general manager, Zachary Campbell. "I really am a doctor!"Subsequently, I turned toward my intern, Lydia Sharpe, and yelled, "What the hell are you doing? Are you aware of how crucial the situation is? Explain everything to them and release me right now!"Lydia w

I couldn't sit still anymore. Before I knew it, I had dropped to my knees in front of Zachary. "Please," I begged. "Just let me in. I won't operate. You can get four people to monitor me. I'll just guide the doctors through the surgery. The patient won't last much longer."There were only three m

Thomas' response surprised everyone, including myself. He was a good mayor, but no one could remain calm before a doctor who did nothing while their son died.Zachary lowered his head and didn't dare to utter a single word. Tucking herself behind him, Lydia said, "Don't let her deceive you, Mr. Dav
