Chapter 155

Author: Maureen Green
It was a blatant provocation, but Aren didn't seem the least bit bothered. He simply checked his watch, smiled, and said, "I've got another meeting to hop on. I'll leave you guys to it. Catch you next time!"

"Pen, I'm heading out. Be good, alright?" he added with a light chuckle, reaching over Colin's shoulder to ruffle Aspen's hair in a familiar, affectionate way.

There was nothing overtly inappropriate in the gesture, but the intimacy of it still made Colin silently clench his fists.

Meanwhile, Gwyneth, standing off to the side, was mortified. She hadn't expected Colin to behave so out of character, actually stooping to compete with Aren in front of everyone.

Even Sophie's death hadn't fazed him. But now, just a glance from Aspen seemed to pull a reaction from him.

Gwyneth silently cursed at Aspen for being such a siren. She wished Aspen had never existed.

Zac couldn't hold back any longer. He stepped up, annoyed. "Colin, what is this? What are you doing?"

Colin looked around like a cornered animal, realizing the directors' gazes had turned distant and scrutinizing. He forced himself to maintain what dignity he had left."Since Mr. Pemberton sees promise in the project, I naturally support it as CEO. I just hope everyone remembers that the company's foundation was built by the Fullers."Vince sighed meaningfully. "The foundation should be honest business practices, not infighting and scheming."Aspen slowly closed her folder. "Thank you all for participating. Mr. Pemberton, we'll get back to you as soon as possible. As for the project itself, I assure you its progress won't be affected by any internal disputes."Gwyneth held onto Colin's arm as if afraid he might collapse at any moment. She cursed under her breath. "That damned Zac. What the hell did he do?"Colin didn't respond, just mechanically nodded to Richard before turning to leave. His steps were rigid, his retreating figure seeming to have aged ten years in a single night.

Richard stood up and cleared his throat, his voice steady and robust as he said, "I formally announce that our company is prepared to make a strategic investment in the new energy project led by Ms. Nicholls, with an initial amount of 2.5 billion dollars."We believe this technology will lead the future energy revolution, and we look forward to establishing a long-term, deep partnership with Fuller Group."It was like a bombshell had been dropped in the meeting room. Colin's face went from red to white as he stared at Richard, seemingly searching for any trace of jest on the man's face.Gwyneth covered her mouth, her body trembling slightly. She looked at Colin in bewilderment, then turned toward the meeting room door as if expecting Zac to suddenly appear and tell her this was all just a nightmare."How is this possible..." she whispered, her nails unconsciously digging into her palms. The directors whispered among themselves, their expressions shifting from shock to delight. Gwyneth stayed close behind them, whispering to Colin, "Colin, is everything going according to plan?""Keep quiet. Don't cause trouble at a time like this," Colin warned in a low voice. In the meeting room, Aspen and Aren were already seated with several documents neatly arranged in front of them. When Richard entered, Aspen stood and politely extended her hand."Mr. Pemberton, pleasure to meet you."Richard paused for a second, something flickering across his face, before he took her hand. "Ms. Nicholls, I've heard a lot about you."Colin sat down next to Richard, quietly adjusting his tie while shooting a challenging look at Aspen and Aren. Gwyneth squeezed in close to Colin as if marking her territory, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. The directors filed in one by one, and the atmosphere in the room grew so tense it felt suffocating."Everyone," Richard looked around the room, his voice steady and commanding. "First, I'd like to thank Mr. Fuller for his invitation."Col

Aspen walked over to him, her fingers gently tracing the documents on the desk. "Aren, is there something you're not telling me?""Pen, you're too perceptive." Aren sighed softly."There is some news, but it's not confirmed yet. My overseas partners mentioned that Richard's recent investment moves seem unusual, but the details are still unclear.""You could have just told me.""I didn't want to distract you." Aren took her hand. "Let me confirm things first, then I'll tell you everything, okay?"Aspen nodded and turned toward the window. "Colin's going to throw everything he has at this. We need to be ready for anything."…The news spread like wildfire through Fuller Group. Small groups huddled together in hushed conversations in the employee cafeteria."Did you hear? Ms. Nicholls and Mr. Fuller went head-to-head at the board meeting, and Mr. Fuller got destroyed.""Really? I also heard that Mr. Pemberton is coming to the company. Are we partnering with them?""Partnering? Y

"Do I look like I'm made of money?" Colin scoffed. "50 million dollars, and all my problems will disappear?""Colin!" Gwyneth stamped her foot in frustration. "This isn't the time to worry about money! We need results!"Zac spread his hands with apparent helplessness. "Colin, you know business better than I do. The risk Richard's taking this time is much bigger than before, so naturally the price goes up."Colin was quiet for a moment, then suddenly stood up and headed toward his study. "Come with me."Once the door closed, Colin pulled a document from his safe. "Zac, you're smart and you're ruthless. I can give you this money, but I need to be sure this is foolproof.""Don't worry, Colin. I've already talked to Richard, and they're waiting for our signal." Zac pulled out the document and glanced at it. "A 70-30 split on the profits?""This is my final offer. No negotiating." Colin's tone was ice-cold."Deal." Zac barely hesitated before signing his name and handing back the doc

"That idiot!" Zac cursed under his breath. "Didn't I warn him to handle this carefully?""Zac, please, you always know what to do." Gwyneth's voice broke. "Colin's completely lost it. I've never seen him like this."The sound of rustling came through the phone. "I'll be there tonight. Just keep him calm and don't let him do anything stupid.""Be careful on the way. Will it be dangerous?""I'm more worried about you than that." Zac's voice carried a rare note of concern. "Don't tell anyone, understand?""I won't say a word. Zac... Thank you."After hanging up, Zac tossed his phone carelessly onto his suitcase and walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows of his suite. Two hours later, Zac stood at the door to Colin's villa, carrying several elegant gift boxes. Before the doorbell finished ringing, Gwyneth yanked the door open frantically."Zac, you're finally here!" Gwyneth's voice was thick with tears. "Colin's…""Easy, Gwen." Zac patted her shoulder and handed over the gifts. "B
