CHAPTER SIX

Althea’s hand trembled as she picked up her spoon. She focused her now teary eyes on her food, not wanting to look up. She heard chuckles from the men on the table, but still she kept her head fixed on her food. She was filled with embarrassment, and having a look at them, would make matters worse. She could not help but wonder how her life became this miserable in a flash.

Two men dashed into the dining room, catching the attention of everyone except Althea. Xander’s jaws clenched as he saw the two men panting, trying to catch their breaths.

“Master, the police.”

The other men at the table dropped their spoons. Some pushed their plates away, as the discomfort in their chests started to fill in. It sets in deeper. The urge to run, escape, hide, ran through their minds. But Xander, however, was not moved. His cold stare crept down their skin, with his pink supple lips kept to a thin line. It was like he was waiting for the triggering news.
