I blinked, trying to process what that male had just said.

He had said I would be his hostage until I received my wolf? But that would be a whole year from now! My face must have gone pale, because he cleared his throat and added:

"If you obey me and behave yourself, we won’t have any problems. That mark on your neck means you’ll be a tracking wolf, and I need to find someone. Once I do, you’ll be free to go."

He said all of this as if it were some kind of irresistible offer, as if he were telling me I’d won a scholarship or a contest—and I could see in his eyes that he truly believed he was doing me some sort of favor.

"I will not be your prisoner. Find whoever you need on your own." It was the first thing that came to mind, spilling out before I could even think about it.

He frowned, then threw one leg over me. I tried to get up, but he pressed a hand against my chest, shoving me back onto the couch.

In doing so, my blouse—already in bad shape and held together only by the makeshift knot I had tied the night before—came undone.

Marius’s large, rough hand brushed against my breasts, and his shock was stranger than anything—I barely had time to react before he practically jumped off the couch.

Turning his back to me, he stammered:

"I’ll find some clothes for you, but they probably won’t be feminine."

I pulled the blanket up to cover myself while staring at his broad, muscular back, watching his shoulders rise and fall.

"I wouldn’t need clothes if you hadn’t kidnapped me. Let me go, and I promise that when I receive my wolf, I’ll remember you saved me—and I’ll help you. You can trust me," I said.

Without turning around, Marius replied harshly:

"Trust? I don’t trust anyone."

. . .

Three days had already passed since Marius had kidnapped me. He kept me locked in a room with the door and windows bolted shut. I could only tell day from night by the slivers of light through the cracks in the windows.

Three times a day, Marius would show up to bring me food and ask if I needed to use the bathroom. I only agreed to go when I absolutely couldn’t hold it anymore. But I still hadn’t taken a shower—I didn’t feel comfortable being naked in the bathroom while sharing the cabin with him.

Marius used some kind of dry toilet, and I had no idea where the waste went afterward. It was always uncomfortable knowing he was right outside the door. The bathroom was outside the cabin, and I suspected he used another place to bathe, somewhere near the toilet.

One evening, as I sat on the bed flipping through an old book I’d found—wearing one of his oversized T-shirts and a pair of shorts I had to tie several times just to keep on—the door opened.

Marius walked in, his hair wet, shirtless, wearing only a pair of worn black shorts.

He always seemed to bathe at night; at least, he always smelled freshly washed whenever he brought dinner.

Were all his clothes this old? Of course—they must have been, if he’d been hiding out here ever since the massacre of the Silver Moon Pack.

The memory of how the bodies had been found sent a shiver down my spine.

“I brought your dinner,” he said, pulling me back to reality.

Marius’s meals consisted of fruit, meat, and fish he caught in a nearby river. Nothing was processed, and I suspected he drew water from a well, since he never wandered far.

I glanced at the meat and vegetables. His face looked… expectant.

I said nothing, as always, and he went to a small table near the bed, setting down the tray.

I swallowed hard, catching the clean scent of him. He didn’t seem to use soap or shampoo, yet he still smelled good.

I imagined him always hiding out here—after all, the Alpha King and his wolves were still seeking justice for the Silver Moon pack massacre.

Before he could turn to leave, I grabbed his hand.

“I need a bath. Please.”

Marius turned to look at me and nodded.

“I’ll prepare one for you.”

He left the room, and minutes later he returned with what looked like a towel in his hands. Clearing his throat, he said,

“Shall we?”

I nodded and got up, following him into the main room and then outside the cabin.

We walked for a short while to a small wooden structure behind the cabin. Marius opened the door, revealing a large wooden barrel filled with water in one corner, and a wooden rack holding jars—one with a faintly scented transparent liquid, another empty, which I assumed was used to draw water from the barrel.

I turned to look at him.

Marius stepped inside the cramped bathroom, brushing past me to pick up one of the jars. Holding it out, he explained,

“This is soap made from the soapberry plant that grows nearby. Use it—it cleans your skin and hair well.”

When he handed me the jar, I caught the same subtle scent that clung to the clothes I was wearing.

I gave him a faint smile and thanked him.

But when he didn’t make a move to leave, just watching my face, I decided to take advantage of it.

“I forgot the clothes. And I think you did too. Could you fetch them for me?”

He seemed to hesitate for a few seconds, and I placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Please, Marius. I won’t run.”

His jaw flexed, and I felt him shiver under my touch. Quickly, he turned his gaze aside and muttered,

“Wait here.”

The moment I saw him walk away, I turned and darted into the forest behind the bathroom, running with every ounce of energy I had stored during those three days of eating everything he gave me.

Unfortunately, it was a moonless night, the darkness thick—just like the night he had taken me.

I kept running, my heart pounding erratically, my legs aching, my mind a storm of panic.

Suddenly, thunder cracked overhead, and I froze for a second, struggling to catch my breath.

If I already had my wolf, I’d be stronger than this. I wouldn’t tire so easily. I’d see through the blackness. But I didn’t. Not yet.

And I couldn’t trust Marius’s promises of freedom. He had slaughtered his own pack.

How could I ever trust a male who was such a ruthless killer?

JaneSoft. So soft and warm.As soon as I lay down on the bed, my whole body relaxed. I had spent the entire day cleaning Tristan’s room—goddess, what a mess.I rolled from side to side, inhaling the fresh scent of fabric softener on the sheets and listening to the quietness of the house—if you ignored the sound of a soccer game blaring from downstairs. But I was so exhausted that even that couldn’t keep me awake.I closed my eyes, ready to drift off, when the door burst open with such force it made me fall off the bed.“Goddess…” I exclaimed, standing up to see Beth in the doorway, coat still on and an unfriendly expression on her face.“Tristan wants you in his room.”“Wow, that was fast,” I muttered, which only seemed to make her angrier.Beth stomped her foot and crossed her arms.“He hasn’t done anything! Because of you…” She averted her eyes.I studied her, noticing how tense she seemed. Had he hurt her? Oh, I wouldn’t doubt it.Tristan and his black, thorn-covered heart—always

TristanBeth stood before me naked, waiting for me to let her in. I couldn't remember the last time I'd slept with her—maybe before Jane arrived. I had been so busy with pack duties and thinking that Marius would soon come after her, preparing to deny him the one thing he wanted, that I hadn't noticed I was neglecting my own needs.I dropped my gaze to her breasts and raised my hand to touch one.Beth closed her eyes, and I liked the sound she made when I touched her—like a soft purr."Possess her... now," my wolf Ethan growled."Yes, maybe I should do that," I told him.Behind me, I heard Jane clear her throat uncomfortably and cough insistently."I think I'll leave you two alone," her voice sounded, and I removed my hand from Beth's breast as she opened her eyes.I scratched my head and opened the door wider so Jane could leave."Get out," I said.Jane hurried out of the room without looking back. As she disappeared down the hall, I pulled Beth inside and closed the door.Beth had a

When I heard my own voice saying no to what he suggested, I realized just how insane this place—this pack—really was.I was refusing to remove a detestable collar with Tristan’s name on it, Tristan, who happened to be my half-brother and cared about me as much as he would about a stray dog.And yet, I clung to that ridiculous collar, because I knew it was the only thing standing between me and the rest of the males in the pack. When I thought of that, Sebastian’s face flashed in my mind—his wicked, lustful eyes.Tristan still had his hand outstretched, waiting for me to hand the collar back. His chin was lifted, his nostrils slightly flared. It was impressive how easily he lost his temper.“No.” I repeated, as if that would somehow make things clearer. But as I expected, he insisted.“No? I don’t understand. Weren’t you just complaining about how much you hate being my slave? How much you hate doing chores for me? Fine then—take off that collar, and let’s see what kind of chores the o

“Jane?”Lena’s voice at the door pulled me out of the dark thoughts I was having about Marius after Tristan’s hateful words.I turned toward the she-wolf standing at the doorway. She was carrying a basket of clothes and looking at me with reproach.“What are you doing? I was waiting for you in the kitchen…” She suddenly stopped speaking and studied me more carefully. In an instant, Lena crossed the room like lightning and gently placed a hand on my neck.“Oh, did Tristan do this to you?”I could see the worry in her eyes, the way she looked at me.And it brought me a strange sense of comfort. When had an older wolf ever looked at me with such a maternal instinct as Lena had since I arrived? I don’t think anyone ever had.I hugged her tightly and whispered in her ear,“It’s all right now, Lena. I’ve already settled things with him, so don’t worry.”Lena looked at me and nodded. Then, as if suddenly remembering why she had come, she grabbed my hand and hurried me out of the room.“Jane,

Kilian still had Tristan pinned against the wall. The difference in strength between them was undeniable—Kilian held him with just one hand clamped around his throat, while Tristan used both of his hands desperately trying to loosen the grip.Kilian’s gaze was filled with disdain.“I’ll tell you what I care about, Tristan. I care about the future of this pack, about making it stronger. I don’t care what you think, or what you feel. If you try in any way to stop Marius from staying here, I’ll kill you. Do you understand?”When Tristan didn’t answer, Kilian slapped him across the face with a resounding crack, splitting his nose and drawing blood. The sudden violence made me let out a sharp gasp, and Kilian’s cold eyes darted toward me. I shrank back immediately, trembling.“Do you understand?” he repeated.Tristan gave the faintest nod his restricted airway allowed.A second later, Kilian released him, and Tristan collapsed to his knees, coughing violently.Without another word, Kilian

Jane“It’s time to get out of bed, Jane. We all have chores here you can’t just stay locked in this room.” Lena opened the windows, letting the sunlight pour in.It had been a week since I’d been trapped in this pack, and with each passing day my hope that Marius would come to rescue me was fading.Had he really left me behind?Lena crossed the room, opened the wardrobe, and pulled out some clothes. She tossed them onto the bed for me.“Even with Tristan’s collar around your neck, you still need to get up and do your part in this house. Every female contributes here, and since you’re Tristan’s exclusive—”“Don’t say that.” My voice cracked, a knot tightening in my throat.Lena blinked, confused.“Don’t ever say I’m his exclusive anything. In fact, don’t say that about anyone around me. It’s wrong. It’s disgusting.”Lena sighed softly, patient, and came to sit on the bed beside me. She took my hands gently in hers, her touch warm and kind, her gaze steady.“I know it’s hard for you to
